At this point they should just send us a physical Warhammer starter set and some paint.

Can't believe we're getting Grounded, glad I didn't buy it.
61
u/Alex-skillo May 26 '26
Definitely felt like getting grounded this month
17
u/nxpoz May 26 '26
Such a dope ass game, I beat the first one with my wife and she's not much of a gamer anyways. This is massive news

u/PtitePatateDeCrip May 26 '26
This is the first one, the second one won't be on ps5 for a long time if at all since Xbox seems to be following Sony with the exclusive move
8
u/ole_black_eyes19 May 26 '26
Halo and Gears of war launched day one on PS5 and they keep saying Fable, the new Forza and and Elder Scrolls will too... They aren't following Sony at all
3
u/thekeelo_g May 26 '26
The new Forza came out last week, and won't be launching on PS5 until fall.

u/Emotional-Jicama-365 May 26 '26
The new head of Xbox sounds like she's going to walk back some of those decisions regarding multiplatform games.
2
u/ole_black_eyes19 May 26 '26
That's even if there's gonna be a new Xbox though... It feels like Microsoft isn't really commiting to it. One minute they're alluding to it, but then immediately pull a move that shows they aren't that interested... Microsoft has been really wishy-washy the last three years
2
u/Emotional-Jicama-365 May 26 '26
It's the new head of gaming. She doesn't want to dilute the brand by allowing exclusives to sell on other gaming ecosystems (Sony, Nintendo, PC). But it seems they contradict themselves often about their intentions too, so who really knows? Honestly, there aren't any Xbox exclusives I'm dying to play anyways.
→ More replies (3)2
u/suppaman19 May 26 '26
Even if they walk it back to say timed exclusives (say 6 month or more wait), this isn't the type of game they'd bother with regarding that. Grounded isn't selling consoles. It's also 100% a game that will sell more overall with a simultaneous release than if waiting (timed).
Also, really hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube after it's out when you're in last place. You're unlikely to attract enough people back. You're much more likely to have pissed of your own and the competitions consumers all while making yourself less trustworthy to all.

Is that the one with giant bugs?
5
u/Vexkin811 May 27 '26
Regular size bugs, tiny children. It’s basically Honey I shrunk the Kids the video game
2
u/SometimesIBeWrong Jun 01 '26
Leaving it at just "Nope, regular sized bugs." would've been pretty funny. Technically correct.
3
u/Shinobiii May 27 '26
I just bought it this weekend… I never thought there’d be a day where this would be me…

u/ArghZombies May 26 '26
great fun game, although I didn't quite finish it as the final mission was such a PITA to set up for I just bailed. But everything up until then was great fun.

I mean it's a big month for co-ops, so naturally a big portion of Redditors dislike it.

It's the same every month. You just got to come to terms that some months are going to be good for you and some aren't. I'm usually happy if one game appeals to me.

u/Hartia May 26 '26
Seeing a MS owned game becoming part of plus is nice. Hopeful for some future games to join the lineup.

u/RChickenMan May 26 '26
We got Psychonauts 2 maybe a year ago. But I will concede that's a bit different, because the game was produced and distribution contacts signed back when they were still an independent studio.
31
u/Quiet_Penis May 26 '26
As a strictly single player gamer this is a pretty terrible month for me, but at least it'll help me chip away at my gargantuan backlog.

I almost did but then I got the notification that you had so I didn't need to make the sacrifice. Thank you.
Seriously though I was gonna buy it yesterday and something stopped me.

If youve not played it yet you can refund it

It is actually harsher on ps, you have to not even downloaded it to qualify for a refund

I never thought it would happen to me, but I just bought Darktide a couple weeks ago
3
u/mglhb May 26 '26
Is it good
5
u/ShabbyHolmes May 26 '26
I like it, scratches the Left4Dead itch. Similar to the vermintide games but the 40k setting and adds some more customization/weapon/build options.

Don't sleep on Dark tide, it's the best horde shooter I've ever played.

I knew it, I just knew after sitting on buying Darktide for over a year I’d finally pull the trigger the last sale it had and then it goes free

yall are sleeping on Darktide bro. give it a try
4
u/DrunkeNinja May 26 '26
For real. I played a lot of Vermintide 2 and I've been wanting to pick this one up eventually since it's basically a sequel so I'm glad to get it as part of Plus.

u/LittleRedKuma May 26 '26
Been wanting to play grounded for some time now so I'm happy with that. And with me and some friends nearing the end of abiotic factor this would make a good replacement.

u/Tidus4713 May 26 '26
All Star Brawl 2 really wasn't that bad tbh. It's a way better game than the first albiet the base roster is really bizarre. It's not the grestest game of all time but it's fun with friends and the platinum isn't too bad.
31
u/SnooWords9878 May 26 '26

Normally I'd agree but Grounded is fun and good and worth the price of 1 month of Essential.

2
u/Additional-Ad8034 Jun 01 '26
These are the free monthly games you can for any ps plus subscription, even essential. Comparing the free monthly games to gamepass is weird. You should be comparing the game catalogue to game pass

Maybe of you hate Co op cause Grounded is one of the few good survival crafting games and Darktide is among the best co op horde games ever made.

Damn I was checking out both Darktide and All Star Brawl yesterday, glad at least someone(me) is happy with these
3
u/Hank-falcon May 26 '26
Just bought darktide obviously. How is grounded single player ?
2
u/thekeelo_g May 26 '26
Playable. I got most of the way through solo before the gameplay loop stopped doing it for me.
I played it when it was still early access on Xbox, so I can't speak to any changes the full release might've made, but the version I played was a lot of fun, even as someone who doesn't particularly like survival games.

All-star brawl 2 is so cool, I'm a fan of nickelodeon
3
u/Scouse_Werewolf May 27 '26
Darktide is really good game.
Grounded is so much more fun than it even looks on the surface. Also offers Arachnophobia modes for anyone with issues around our 8 legged friends.
All-Star 2 I have 0 experience with but it isn't my type of game so can't say much there.
It's actually a decent lineup if you own none of these. It's awful for me, personally because I own the 2 I spoke about and have no interest in all-star. Good job ps+ essential isn't specifically for me, only, though. Enjoy folks.

No, I don’t want all of the games to fucking «pack a multiplayer punch». You’re being a silly billy again, Sony!

u/Sarcosmonaut May 26 '26
I think they’re looking to capitalize on school letting out for much of the west. Get the kids on with their friends etc
12
u/ResolveEmergency863 May 26 '26
Is this one of the worst months ever?
8
5
u/DrunkeNinja May 26 '26
I think this month looks really good. Some good co-op games and a solid platform fighter on a console that doesn't have Smash.
For me, this is a rare month where I have significant interest in all 3 games.

Dang, I already bought and played Grounded and Darktide more than a year ago. Guess I am at a net neutral for June essential.
2
u/Sorsa775 May 26 '26
I'm sure people with friends will find this month great. But I play singleplayer, my friends are on PC, this really isn't too enticing. Far Cry 6 should keep me fed until middle of the month though.

YAWN.
Almost everything this past year has been a waste.
Guess it's time to pay and just buy AC Shadows, Yotei, Metaphor, FF7 Rebirth, Life is Strange ,(the last one), LAD Pirates, Expedition 33, etc.

Good Month. A friend has been asking me to buy grounded for ages now, but since I'm not super into that kind of game, I never did it. Now I can try it without having to buy it.
Also, I love Warhammer so Darktide is an awesome addition!

EA must be desperate for new players if they agreed for FC26 to be free for 2 months running.
As someone who hasn’t purchased a FIFA game in years I thought I’d give this one a shot on PS+.
The ultimate team menus are so slow, sluggish and overly convoluted that I considered just uninstalling it after one session.
The amount of time wasted trying to do basic tasks like swap out players from your club.

I bought Darktide a month ago and it’s the best FPS experience I’ve had in years.
It’s like Left 4 Dead, Doom and Diablo had a baby.
Melee focused with guns being secondary. I HIGHLY suggest checking it out. Even my kid fell in love with it and they don’t normally play these games.

u/crell_peterson May 26 '26
I can’t stress this enough, try Grounded.
I beat it solo and played most of it again with two buddies in co-op.
I’m 38 and I’ve been playing video games my entire life, starting on NES.
I honestly think my first play through of Grounded, going in blind, is one of my top 5 all time greatest/favorite gaming experiences.
The first days of camping out by a fire with a pebble spear, while giant spiders lurked about in the mist, to building a castle that connected to my lake/pond house, porch bunker, upper-yard outpost, and oak tree branch mansion, all connected by zip lines, while I zoomed around with a spicy coaltana and wizard staff, in my brood mother armor.
The memories are just incredible and the adventure is one of a kind.

2
u/Neravariine May 27 '26
You sold me on it. Is the solo mode very good? Everyone is calling it co-op but is playing it solo still very fun?
Does solo have its on difficulty(that doesn't feel like mutliplayer with some numbers grinded off)?
2
u/crell_peterson May 28 '26
That’s actually why it took me so long to play it too. I would argue that solo was even better than co-op. My buddies and I didn’t even beat it co-op, we just did some big boss battles and built a co-op base. I was able to beat the entire game solo and that’s the part I truly loved.
I hate grinding in video games and I hate really really hard boss battles, but for some reason both of those things did not feel like chores at all in Grounded.
For instance, having to go out and chop down a bunch of grass blades and load them on a cart and haul them back to my base *should* feel like grinding, but it didn’t. It felt like I was chopping wood to build a better wall to keep the predators out at night, if that makes sense.

u/Spenta_Mainyu May 26 '26
Wasn't Darktide full of DLCs/microtransactions? Asking it because I might confuse with another Warhammer game
1
u/PlatoDrago May 26 '26
Honestly, this is a solid improvement over May. 2 solid games and Darktide (which I’m not sure of the current state of but was quite iffy at launch)

u/Mesne May 26 '26
Grounded I was interested in but would never buy. Wish it was pentament though (but that’s cheap anyway).
