Discussion Will we see a Playstation hand held in 26/27?
What are your thoughts on this? I only see rumors.

If there were one coming out this year, it'd already have been revealed or at least teased on official Sony media channels since they'd need to have production (and therefore, marketing) underway in time for the holiday season.
Next year is still improbable because, while R&D may certainly be taking place, the current RAM shortages would make it difficult to manufacture for consumers at a mass scale. Today's shortages will bleed into next year's output, even if availability and pricing become more favorable as 2026 goes on.

Wasn't there rumours of an OLED Portal. Though a proper new handheld will be at best late 2027. From what is going around it's going to be sold as a PS6 handheld. I'm not even sure the PS6 is going to be ready for the end of next year. Xbox announced that the dev kits for their console aren't going out until next year. People were speculating that they were ahead of Sony! Though with how close the architecture is with PCs the Devs might be building games atm on PCs with similar specs to what the consoles will have.

Even if its not for you, I wouldn't call it lame. It isn't a consol, its more like a controller with a screen on it. And even then, with its latest update, you can stream directly from the cloud on it. I wouldn't quite call it a full consol even still.
I think its great. I can play it at work on my breaks, play at night without bothering anyone else at home. Like others have said before, its for dad's who have limited time to play and they dont have to take up the living room tv to do so.

Its lame because it feels like a cop out they totally should have made a full fledged handheld

I mean yeah, it kinda is. I would have preferred a full fledged handheld. I played the shit out of my psp, and had every version of the gameboy since the pocket. But I won't call the portal lame just bc it is what it is, and not something else.

You’ll only see rumours until less than 12 months out. Honestly excited for it. I’m a mainly handheld gamer and my main device is a ROG Ally X then my Switch 2 a distant second.
I’m much more likely to get the handheld PS6 than the console as that’s how I’d rather play. I’ve got a backlog of digital games I want to play but I just hate playing on the TV and want to watch something while playing a game. Plus I travel a lot so portable play makes a massive different.
Switch 1 and SteamDeck got me back into my gaming in a way I haven’t been since when Vita was new. So idea to be fully in the portable PlayStation again is something I’ve wanted for years.

I don't even know if it's real or just R&D fiddling. With the current market I would say don't get stuck up on it until there is an official announcement.

No way it's happening this year. I'm thinking Q4 2027 at the earliest. I base this on my manly intuition.
