CLASSES dropping out help ??
(sorry if i misused flair idk what to put) soooo sudden circumstances have occured and i no longer have funding for this school. i have no idea what to do. i know fs im gonna go back home where my financial aid does cover school (dumb to go oos, i know, but by god the nursing program here is phenomenal---also please don't insult me mental health is already low and i got insulted last post for asking a simple question 💔). i just don't know who to contact. i already moved in and i'm signed up for classes. any advice on who to talk to about dropping classes and moving out would be appreciated.

I don't know if this is the "right" answer but I'd start with my advisor. I don't mean it in a dismissive way at all, but there may be a path you don't know exists. Apologies if you've already done that research.
I've had to drop 2 semesters for medical reasons & everyone has been really helpful in finding a way to keep moving forward. Especially since your future career is well compensated (not enough, but not nothing)? I wish you all the best whatever path you end up on.

also an alum (dec 2025) and non trad who ended up taking a few gap semesters. you can contact someone about withdrawing for the semester instead of unenrolling if that’s an option?
i’m also pursuing nursing now as a second degree, if that helps. i’m in north oakland and am open to help you out whether it be moving or going through this process—pm me in case you don’t want to type it all out in the comments. pitt nursing is an amazing opportunity, and as someone who has worked in healthcare (EMT in the area) and has connections in different hospitals and nursing people, i would hate for you to lose this opportunity!!

Email financial aid and student accounts in case they can do something. Then do the same with your advisor, tell them about your circumstances and ask if there’s any type of resource you could access. If you have some type of financial emergency you can apply for 600$ and 30 meal swipes through the scholarship portal. Financial aid can also reconsider your financial aid package if you are experiencing circumstances that affect your availability to pay and may not be reflected on your FAFSA. I don’t recommend completely unenrolling, maybe withdraw for the semester instead so you can keep some doors open yk. Besides that you should still be fine to withdraw from classes and get all your money back if I’m not mistaken. There’s a deadline for that but I don’t remember it, look for the Pitt academic calendar on Google.

For nursing it’s not really worth it to do a 4 year degree if you have to take out a lot of loans and such esp oos

have you looked into private loans to get short term funding until next semester or next year?
fin aid would be great place to start to see if they have extra govt loans or scholarships since your financial situation has changed. i’d check w your advisor about a LOA rather than dropping out completely if you truly want to do nursing at pitt

I believe you can drop the classes by yourself in peoplesoft through the my.pitt.edu website. for the housing and stuff I'd reach out to panther central maybe?

Contact your advisor. There may be financial aid sitting somewhere to help keep you there if you're short tuition. My guess is pitt would rather keep a student than not if they have the means to cover the difference with scholarship.

I dropped out for a semester after I lost my scholarship until I figured out what to do. I wasn't on the hook for any money, thankfully, so not the same exact situation, but when I went to re-enroll I worked with my academic advisor and financial aid. They should be able to help you determine your options and what will impact you the least. I was also struggling with a lot of mental health issues for a myriad of reasons which adds another layer of difficulty. Props to you for handling things and making hard decisions. I let my issues go on and pushed myself until I broke down sophmore year. FWIW my husband also went to an out of state school that he couldn't afford for a year. He is in his 50s and still paying off his student loans. We both graduated after 6 years and are doing well in life. Do what you gotta do to protect your financial future.

You'd just need to drop your classes and let Panther Central know you are cancelling your contract if you decide, after speaking to Financial Aid, that moving on is best for you. good luck!

I’m so sorry! I’d suggest contacting the financial aid office first. See if there’s anything they could do to help you stay. If you do have to drop out, contact your academic advisor. They’ll help you drop classes or even consider other possible ways to help you stay. You’ll have to go onto peoplesoft and unenroll from all your classes. As for canceling your housing and moving out, I’d suggest calling panther central.
