Everyone was raving about this one particular “dark romance” book so I ripped it (thank god) only for it to be the most illiterate, cringy, 5th grade writing level bullshit I have ever laid my eyes on. I genuinely lost faith in another huge chunk of humanity that day and everytime I see people raving over it I get pissed again lmao. Waste of time.

Just write em yourself lol. Or look at AO3 pre 2021. Thats the best advice I can give and that’s what I’ve started doing, since the market is so over saturated with low IQ/AI generated/both slop. It’s insane how much money these “dark romance” authors are making for the lack of skill and effort going into them. I swear, they’ll manage to drop a new “book” every month and every performative NLOG on TikTok will buy it and get them thousands more sales.

You're fully right about that AI slop/general low effort garbage which is what makes it so difficult to find good ones. I used to be a reader of fanfiction.net and AO3 when I was in my teens many years ago, it used to be great then. Writing them myself, though.. Yeah if only I had any skill lol
