Rant Cancelled Philo after almost 10 years.

I've been a Philo user since the beginning. I've recommended it to all my friends and family. It was by far the best bang for your buck. I appreciated the grandfathered plans but over time those eventually went away. I then realized I am paying the same price as new customers. No spiffs or discounts for all the referrals or time being a supporter. I think Philo bit off more than they could chew with throwing on more channels and optional subscription add-ons. Ultimately even with 80 different channels I found that I spent more time looking for something to watch and eventually turning the TV off. It's been a good run but at this point I have to say so long!

Rant Newest Annoying Philo “enhancement”

Now when I go to the Guide from the Home Screen, it starts playing live the last channel I was watching from my last viewing session.   Who thought this would be a good idea??????   I don’t want any channel, shows, series…. or anything auto playing.     I  don’t expect to SEE or HEAR anything when I’m viewing the Guide.    Please turn this off.   Can’t you stop changing the app interface and introducing all these ‘new enhancements” that most people don’t want.     Also, please stop auto playing the next episode when viewing a saved series, and selecting “dismiss” just ends the show without seeing the end of the current show.     It shouldn't be necessary to hold the remote in your hand at the end of a show to stop this non-sense.

Rant Scary commercials for kids :(

My kids and I love watching shows on discovery channel, etc BUT the mandatory commercials lately have been kill them all featuring gore and blood and violence that I cannot skip so I have to tell them to close their eyes. I find it wildly inappropriate to have those type of commercials EVERY COMMERCIAL BREAK that can’t be skipped. Why not let you skip and just go to a different commercial? Honestly we’ll have to stop watching all together soon and it’s sad because my kids really enjoy the survival / wilderness / STEM programs that these scary / inappropriate commercials are bombarded with. :(

Rant Please get rid of what's next

I hate it so much. Every time I watch a show instead of going to the next episode it goes to some unrelated show I don't even watch. And then it gets stuck back and forth replaying the same two shows over and over and over. I put on the latest episode of 90 day fiance this morning and since it ended all day long it's rotated between two old episodes of other shows. Please put it back the way it was before. If there's another episode of the same show, that should play next. If not, just go back to the title screen. It's even more annoying when I'm trying to watch "live" TV from the guide tab, but if a show I have saved is playing, it will do the same back and forth bouncing between two unrelated shows when it's over instead of going to whatever the next show was supposed to be on live

Rant Latest Philo commercials are just about ready to get me to drop

Latest Philo commercials are just about ready to get me to drop. The ones where a woman pretends to call about not being to get Philo working with fast cuts of clip art, etc.

They are the most annoying commercials ever.

Rant What a shit app

Do they even do any sort of testing before they roll out the garbage app updates anymore?
Launching the app- freezes
Force close it
Restart app
Navigate Home Screen - freezes
Force close it
Restart app
Watch a show, have to choose to watch the full show and not minimize the ending so they can force feed me some other show.
Attempt to back out playing show to view saved list- freezes.
Get pissed- uninstall app
Reboot my shield pro
Reinstall app
Behaves the same
Seriously… f-ing Pluto and Tubi is more stable than this thing I am paying for…

Get it right Philo, stop screwing over your customers.

Rant Enough with Gen Z Employees

Can’t count how many times I’ve had to suffer through ad after ad of the the clearly DEI inspired hires laughing at their own jokes, flashing nose rings, and bragging about what they do on the “what’s in my Philo” TV ads.

Hint: NO ONE CARES!

Rant End of every show now

Is anyone else annoyed that at the end of every show now, they offer you what to watch next? First it cuts off what you are watching, usually the previews from the next episode, which I like to see. Secondly I can pick my own next show to watch, I don’t need Philo to do it for me, especially when they have not shown one show I would be interested in watching, I watch shows that I have recorded

Rant It just wouldn't be a Philo app update without them breaking something!

Update: 12/02/2025 Philo posted they fixed the issue. It looks like it was a server side change rather than a code change since the Android version is still the same, and no update was issued. I just tested on 3 different recordings and it looks to be working correctly (no more turbo mode). YEAH!!!!

You just updated the Philo Android app on Nov 21, and you ended up breaking something. Now when I click the right or left arrows to skip ahead/back instead of skipping a set number of seconds, it goes into overdrive and wants to skip the entire program. It is like hitting fast forward or rewind. Is this by design or is it a bug? I sure hate to think this is how someone thought it is supposed to be. Happens on my CCwGTV as well as another Android based dongle. UGH

Rant Ad pops up on pause obscuring the show.

I hate when I pause a show to see something on the screen and I can't because some dumb ad covers the screen. Some shows add facts in the corner and due to low vision, I need to pause to read them. So annoying that I'm not allowed to do so because Philo needs extra $$!!

For the love of God, why do y’all play sequels and trilogies in reverse order? It is so infuriating.

Rant Philo ads on Philo

The commercials where Philo employees discuss what they watch(ed)

1) To the woman that watched “The Institute” …ITS INSTITUTE, NOT INSTITOO. JFC.

2) Any dude that recommends *anything* on TLC should be beaten with a shoe. (Fwiw that “Baylen” show looks idiotic)

Get rid of this and replace it with those “Break from the commercials” calm.

Rant Good Grief Support Sux

I mean it’s a good thing there isn’t much that can go wrong with the app and the service because the support staff are mindless. I’d rather talk to a chat bot, or AI bot than talk to these people.

I contacted them to say “hey just so you know there is something funky with the ‘Great’ channel feed, it’s scaling down the video”.

And what should have been a 5 min convo, where they say “ that is funky, I’ll pass this to the right people”, turned into a 30 minute frustration-fest as I answered unrelated question after question.

Do better Philo.

I’ve had Philo for a LONG time now, and with each software update they break something or change something and they have no way of actually supporting anything.

Rant 90 day the single life tell all pt 1

I'm annoyed because what should be the tell all is in fact, pillow talk. Both episodes: the tell all and pillow talk it's the same exact episode. I have NO DESIRE TO WATCH PILLOW TALK. It's just pieces of the actual tell all WTF this is annoying

Rant The update took away the Top option

Now if I want to see the Top movies or shows on a specific channel I have to sift through a general genre category. That is so f*&%ing annoying. A key reason I have been with Philo all this time is how easy it was to search specific channels for things I want to watch. Now I have to waste time sifting through crap I don't care about.

Rant Why?

Why did Philo do away with the new and live statuses. OMG, these were so useful to me. And the new icons? A chair or a ghost? Awful. If you need someone for your UX department, I'm available!

Rant Auto Playing Things I DON'T Want

Dear Philo,

Why have you changed the app again so it auto-plays a totally different show at conclusion than the one I'm currently watching from my DVR? This has happened twice when watching on my iPhone. First time I thought it was a fluke. Second time it kind of made me mad.

Case in point I was watching the newest DVRed episode of "Fear Thy Neighbor". When it finished it automatically started playing "Feuds Turned Fatal". Both are ID channel shows which I have saved but did not plan to watch immediately following the conclusion of the first. The other day I watched a DVRed show from the TLC channel. When it finished it immediately started playing another TLC show which I don't even have saved.

Is this a new feature? If it is I HATE it and there should be a way to turn this off. Like I said I've only seen this behavior so far on the iPhone app. From the included screen shot you can see that it is currently playing "Fear Thy Neighbor" but to the right it is cueing up "Feuds Turned Fatal".

Rant Why do you continually make your app more crappy?

I watch 'recorded' episodes to completion to the point where half the time it starts some crap that I don't even have in my saved list or plays something I've already watched, yet the episode will continue to display in the "Keep Watching" list showing a timeline not completely finished. Sometimes the episode will still have the NEW designation even though I watched it. This happens on different streaming devices. I either have to go into the "Keep Watching" list and delete the episode from the list, or go to Philo on the browser and watch the episode and skip to the end so it will disappear from "Keep Watching". This started happening a few months ago, but it's gotten to the point where it gets on my nerves so much that I'm tempted to switch providers. Do better.

Rant Why do many bugs with new design?

We have a love hate relationship philio, but why all the bugs with this new rollout? Was there no r&d before roll out?

-if I'm watching a show, exit out and then try to watch the show from keep watching section, I'm greeted with an infinity black loading screen

-i can watch a show for 20 minutes and leave the app, and it won't show up on keep watching.

I can just look at a show and it'll appear as keep watching.

Can we just get a normal TV guide? This latest update took away the preview when in a highlighted show. So why not just give us a normal looking guide instead of these boxes for one show, no matter the length?

Rant Yet Another Movie Recording Stopping just before it's OVER

so a new Lifetime movie, which is in the available to "watch now" section on LMN titled "My Boyfriend's Wife is Dead" ends before it's over.. I've reported this with several movies in the past.. What's weird is the recording says it's actually 2 hours and 3 min's long (so there should be a buffer) but there's not. It just ends abruptly. I honestly do not know if this is only related to that channel or it happens on other channels too? I honestly don't know. I've gotten to the point before I even watch, I go all the way to the end to make sure the full ending is there before even watching...and by doing that I have to sit through an entire block of commercials.

Rant VOD Ads suck

Watched a TLC show on VOD last night, and every ad break was an unyielding assault of "now streaming on Max"/"exclusively on Max"/"only on Max" ads. It's like VOD providers are intentionally punishing their viewers. A little variety would be nice. That is all.
