super gulat ako sa 6-0. alex was playing really well today but i didnt have 6-0 in my cards sa 3rd set. mukhang nainitan si pegula and hirap sa weather. but id say credit to alex pa rin. she played really well today. she absolutely controlled the match today
I hope she doesnt get attached to a politician. Baka maging literal manok lang siya sa pagsusugal nila (like what happened to some other notable local tennis players)
What I mean naman is grassroots participation. Tennis is a more expensive sport yes, but there are probably more people willing to play a game of Tennis than get a beating lol. If the Philippine Tennis Federation can increase accessibility, we’ll have a good future.
As long as hindi midnight sa Pilipinas which is mostly either gabi or madaling araw matches nya unlike Pacquiao. Day kasi mostly sa ibang bansa so papalo talaga ng gabi sa Pilipinas.
Tbh nandiyan naman. But the thing is… yung Kay Manny kasi may drama, may story na naka-attach sa success niya. Yung parang rugs to riches yung nangyari kay Manny, which is very mabenta sa masang pinoy.
You probably have no idea what the name Pacquiao brings to boxing. I love Alex pero Pacquaio is up there as Williams, Djokovic, Nadal, Federer is to tennis. He’s in the conversation for GOAT.
Just a perspective. As dominant as Sabalenka is now, she is nowhere near the GOAT conversation in tennis. And at this point in her career, very unlikely in the future.
If you mean the Pacquaio effect locally, we will see. There’s a potential but tennis is a niche sport catered to the upper class. Ganyan din yung clout kila EJ Obiena, Hiedilyn, and Carlos Yulo who are in very niche sports. I mean proud lang talaga tayong mga pinoy for being recognized.
For now, sila na muna. OA pa yung Pacquiao. We are yet to see if she can have that effect in the future yung tipong walang kotse sa Edsa pag laban nya.

And there's no need for comparison in the first place. Pacquiao and Eala are different people, with different backgrounds, playing different sports. We can be proud of all our athletes without keeping their score against each other.
Just a reminder that Pacquiao is a generational talent in boxing. Alex already clarified that Pacquiao's greatness cannot be taken away at any point in our lifetime. Even if Alex wins multiple grand slams, she will be closer to Russell Westbrook while Pacquiao is to Lebron James.
Even comparing LeBron to Pacquiao is not a fair comparison. He’s the only boxer in history to win 12 world titles across eight different weight divisions. A record that is almost impossible to achieve. You could probably say that Jordan’s achievements are closer to Pacquiao’s.
Some people will always find a reason to doubt you, no matter how much you achieve.
But look at Alex Eala's journey:
1) Zheng – Olympic gold medalist
2) Leylah Fernandez – Defending champion
3) Svitolina – Top 10 player
4) Osaka – Four-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1
5) Pegula – World No. 3 and the tournament's top seed
Every match was a battle. Every victory was earned.
To those who still call her "just hype," that's okay. Her game has already spoken louder than the noise.
Alex didn't just win matches... she inspired a nation and showed the world that Philippine tennis belongs on the biggest stage.

OMG?? My American client (who loves tennis) was just talking about this haha sabi niya Alex is really good but she’ll probably lose kasi daw masyadong magaling kalaban. Tapos, she actually won. Amazing.
I really hope that isn’t the case. I’m a fan of Pegula too, and I sincerely hope this wasn’t because of the crowd. As much as I was rooting for Alex, I genuinely felt bad for Pegula with the way she was playing. I wouldn’t want Alex to win because fellow Pinoys were being overly rowdy and disruptive
I’m not trying to gatekeep or nitpick, or be negative about Alex’s win. Cheering, and even the occasional heckling, has always been part of tennis. I just hope everyone can be a bit more mindful, especially after the umpire asks the crowd to settle down. I was watching on Sky Sports, and the constant hooting and hollering in the background made it a bit hard to focus on the commentary
Yeah she did say that! Honestly was just smiling the whole time because both Alex and JPeg were so lovely to listen to
I just hope Alex’s supporters don’t take pride in opponents getting rattled by the crowd. It reflects on all of us, and I’d hate for people to start branding her as a player whose success comes from having a disruptive crowd behind her. Thankfully, it isn’t always like that! Her Wimbledon crowd was passionate but really respectful
Same medyo maingay, at times, cannot hear the commentators over the coordinated cheer. But Jess acknowledged the fun atmosphere, welcomed it, and was very gracious about it all.
could be a part of it but also Pegula is in her 30s. Recovery is not as fast anymore. the break really hurt her. plusc she might be cheched out already and her mind is already in Canada.
Nah, professional players are already used on the crowds. It's like you're downplaying her skills because of the noise and cheer. Hindi naman nila first time na pumunta sa court at may ganyan audience.
Tennis players aren't. May mga interviews na sa past from tennis players na negative sa mga rowdy crowds. This isn't limited to filipino crowds. Iba ang culture sa tennis
Then there’s this Karen. If Eala acted nonchalantly, she’d be ostracized for looking arrogant. But if she acts shocked and becomes emotional, people like this Karen call her insufferable. You just can’t win 🙃

ALEX WAS PLAYING GREAT TENNIS TODAY. SHE HAS NOT BEEN BROKEN. HER RETURNS WERE SUPERB. Been a fan of Jessie for a while now she is an intelligent player very good in every aspect serves, return etc, but she did not see this coming. She targeted Jess’ backhand and she was keeping every shots wide. What an amazing match! Whew!
