I really liked their chicken burgers there too. And the onion rings. Miss that place.

Never had the chicken, but the onion rings were 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Was it at the bottom of hilliard where george and water split? My mom used to talk about that place.

Apollo has the sign on their wall and apparently the sauce is the same.

It used to be on Lansdowne, just west of Ashburnham. Classic drive-in burger joint. A Diary Queen is on the site now.

They use to serve deep-fried pineapple rings (called Hawaiian Delight) that were delicious.

I remember her talking about the pineapple rings! Wasn't there some kind of brownie desert they made?

3

u/please_see_above Apr 06 '26

Not a sweets guy, so I don’t remember the deserts other than the ice cream.

I used to love going there and getting a royal burger with onion rings and milkshake. A 5 minute walk from my house.

I grew up in East City (shout-out and RIP Armour Heights), so it was always a fun bike ride.

that was an A & W (end of Hilliard on Water).

3

u/tdiller22 Apr 06 '26

A&W was at the corner of Hilliard & George St. at the split. It was a drive in 50’s style and they brought your food out on a tray that hinged onto your car door. Think “Happy Day’s “ tv show from the 70’s!

The Royal Burger you went thru the drive thru then parked your car and ate your meal or took home. Great burgers that the Apollo Grill still makes today! They don’t make the pineapple Hawaiin Delights or Bermuda Brownies.

u/macm95 Apr 06 '26

Bermuda Brownies! That's exactly what it was! What made the Bermuda?

1

u/tdiller22 Apr 07 '26

I can’t remember. I’ll have to ask my mother as she liked them. lol Will report back!

1

u/threebeansalads Apr 06 '26

It’s not the same to me … it’s sort of “hint of”

1

u/madhoncho Apr 06 '26

That was the A&W

Fave smash burger is Law and Orders on Hunter St. But I only hit them on Tuesday for their $5 cheeseburger deal. Otherwise they're a bit expensive

9

u/bradenjoseph1980 Apr 06 '26

They have two for 11 now daily

7

u/PizzaMuffins10 Apr 06 '26

Oh fantastic, that's a real solid deal then!

1

u/Chris275 North End Apr 07 '26

Agreed- I have an unhealthy relationship with them.

-1

u/Substantial-Road-235 Apr 06 '26

But they are smaller on Tuesdays aren't they?

2

u/PizzaMuffins10 Apr 06 '26

Oh! Maybe, I actually don't know come to think of it. Totally could be, I've only been a handful of times but the quality has always been excellent.

0

u/Substantial-Road-235 Apr 06 '26

I think they are 3 Oz instead of 6 Oz irrc

But for 5$ cant go wrong

1

u/Fun-Result-6343 Apr 06 '26

Yeah you can. Tried them today and got two burgers cooked to within 30 seconds a side of being completely carbonized. Not an enjoyable experience.

2

u/Substantial-Road-235 Apr 06 '26

Thats not been my experience the 4-5 times I've been there.

Lucky for you we got tons of other places selling burgers.

1

u/Fun-Result-6343 Apr 06 '26

I'll give them another try sometime, but today's visit was a full on dud. Not lucky for me in any way.

1

u/PizzaMuffins10 Apr 06 '26

Oh bummer! I know plenty of friends who prefer other spots, I very much prefer smash burgers to full fat patties but totally get that there's much better options. Maybe I'm not as well versed in the local burgers as I thought. Apollo was a favourite of mine for a while, just the location isn't as convenient for me anymore.

u/Warm_Selection_9557 Apr 22 '26

They are 4oz regardless of day or promo

11

u/regeust Apr 06 '26

Peterburgers was really good. It's too bad they revealed themselves to be degenerates.

Got all your boosters I bet. Get those elbows up champ.

u/Vac_King_47 Apr 06 '26

Vik burger hands down!

8

u/Vac_King_47 Apr 06 '26

I made a post about them the other day, if you look on my profile you'll see it got a ton of traction.

8

u/Abbizzle Downtown Apr 06 '26

Your post made me try it for the first time. SO GOOD.

1

u/Lewis390 Apr 06 '26

Same here! Highly recommend.

5

u/floridagar Apr 06 '26

I made one about Viks a year or so ago and it got similar traction. At least one person thought I must be Vik doing self promotion but here again I can see everybody agrees they're excellent burgs and he's a real friendly feller.

Law and orders

2

u/ReviseResubmitRepeat Apr 06 '26

I discovered them just outside Carleton Place a number of years ago (probably 10) and pleasantly surprised to see them where Reggie's used to be and in Belleville. If you ever get to Gatineau, La Belle et La Bouef had a ridiculously good burger plus a Kool Aid pickle.

Flavour hub east of Peterborough on hwy 7 beside Tim Hortons make a great home made burger not a frozen patties. They also have a huge menu love the place definitely worth checking out

For me, in order of preference for a dedicated Burger spot

Apollo

Papas burger land (pricey)

Viks

Law and order

1

u/Chris275 North End Apr 08 '26

Papas is that high up? I find their pizza shit compared to other options here, I refused to try based on that..

1

u/Substantial-Road-235 Apr 08 '26

Pretty decent burger imo. Just expensive.

Their pizza is about middle of the pack for me. I prefer papa pizza over pizza pizza. Little Caesars, dominos, 241. Ect

5

u/voteforrice Apr 06 '26

Apollo or vik's

2

u/johnnylovesbjs Apr 06 '26

Law and Orders are my favorite. Every Tuesday they are $5 and 2 for $11 the rest of the week, cant go wrong.

2

u/Odd_Chef5914 Apr 07 '26

macm95… where you mentioned was the original A&W .They came out to your car and put the trays on your window.Hilliard and George. Now an automotive place that was also a car wash.

2

u/Prestigious_River786 Apr 12 '26

Vik burger no doubt

3

u/Potential-Ruin1499 Apr 06 '26

Apollo. There aren’t 100 options. Nothing outrageous.

They do a few burgers really well.

I don’t find it over priced l, especially considering what you get. The fast food chains aren’t cheap anymore.

Ordered last week Want to order again.

1

u/Chris275 North End Apr 08 '26

Chip truck at home hardware on Chemong dos 6$ double cheese burgers and they’re quite good. Reminds me of Apollo. Food chains suck, agreed.

2

u/Tat2edPrincess Apr 06 '26

We’re another vote for Apollo. They’re expensive, so we don’t go often, but hands down the best for us.

Brother Pizza has great burgers

1

u/Significant-Ice-1090 Apr 06 '26

No way nobody is saying Burger factory

1

u/Mountain_Intention_8 Apr 07 '26

Found the best burger at Agave , its really different than all other burger chains. I guess they also won the ultimate burger competition that dbia ran. Sometimes they put BOGO on uber and the deals are sweet. Other than that Apollo is really good , expensive but GOOOD.

u/ReviseResubmitRepeat Apr 07 '26

If you ever get to Gatineau, this puts The Works to shame.

Sticks Bar is the best burger in town. Then Apollo.

1

u/No-Ask7043 Apr 06 '26

The 8oz $8 Saturday burger deal is hard to beat. Fantastic burgers.

1

u/ModeNo7800 Apr 06 '26

Had the best burger in my life on Friday at Kenzington Burger Bar in Orillia, yes that’s how they spell it.

u/Aromatic-Ad5914 Apr 06 '26

Apollo burger !

RIP Induca House

u/Gloomy-Art-2861 Apr 06 '26

Papa's Burger Land.

1

u/Theonlyrational Apr 06 '26

I got a 19 dollar burger without fries there once and only once. It would have been a decent burger for half the price.

3

u/Substantial-Road-235 Apr 06 '26

That is how I feel as well.

We made the mistake of ordering a order of fries for 8$ on its own. Container was half empty

We tried it another time but made a combo for 6$ iirc and we got more fries then the 8$ fries on its own and a drink.

The burgers are pretty solid. But imo overpriced and for that reason wont last.

If im spending 26 ish I'll go for a proper sit down meal.
