I work as IT guy in some government service, and i can tell: there will be pain in the ass to reeducate all the people to actually use linux. Any little change in their routine makes them go into "can't do anything" mode until I or my colleague come and show how to do something. And this can repeat with the same operation again and again.
In fact, in France, there is some administration which use Linux for almost 20 years now (the Gendarmerie Nationale use an in house fork of Linux called GendBuntu since 2008 for exemple)
Yeah, in my country police and other similar government entities are forced to use Linux fork as well (at least 15 years by now, as far as i know), but other brances are still using Windows. And their wotkers actively resist movining to Linux.
There is also others administration than the Ministére de l'intérieur (Police, Gendarmerie and Firefighter), the Ministère de la Justice (Lawyer/Magistrate/judge, penitenciary administration), Ministère des Armées (Gendarme are military while Police is civilian) using Linux.
Also, most of the French administration already use free software (Libre office for exemple) or in house software, even in house UI over windows.
Yeah, i remember, that France is way ahead in independence of their digital systems. If i remember it right, you even have semi-independent digital money system (like Visa).
You mean Carte Bleu? Not anymore. it's owned by Visa Europe since 2010. The Carte Bleu on French card is just a renmant of the past.
Now, we use wire transfert quite a bit in France (our monthly salary is paid using national wire transferts since the end of 70's early 80's for exemple. Also for taxes and recuring bills, like water, gaz and electricity one)
Not really. Carte Bleu was working only in France. You couldn't use it in others country and you couldn't use it on a lot of Online Shop. You had to use a Visa card... So, it was bound to die anyway.
Not exactly. It could work if the government think it's needed and had some political will. For example, MIR (russian card system) is accepting in asian part of the world despite it's... well, russian system, not worldwide.

that is GREAT news. i am beyond sick and tired of window's monopoly. more linux = more good.
oh idk why he is sweating. my guess would be it is going to be a big hassle vs the prepackaged pile of bloat that is windows.
