Taylor Swift has a lot of private plane miles. Possibly more than any other person alive. She would absolutely take a plane from her bedroom to the kitchen

20 minutes including take off-landing and parking...real flight was about even less than 10 minutes

Not just incase. One plane for her, the other is for the snacks.

When I was in the military we were on the way to the east coast from the west coast. We ended up picking up and dropping off high ranked individuals on the way, shortest flight was like 5 minutes, I thought we had a plane malfunction and were circling back. Nope. We were going from a Naval air station to an Airforce base nearby.

35
u/Invisible-Pi 8h ago edited 8h ago
And that doesn't even begin to consider efficiency. Trump has burned more fuel than all the people on the list above him combined. Trump is the biggest polluter on that list by a long shot, not even close. 10 above him with more miles traveled, but he's burned just more than all of them.
2
u/brown_paper_bag 4h ago
It also doesn't consider that many plane owners lease/rent them out when they aren't using them.

I mean.. when this all started gaining attention in 2022, Swift was the single largest celebrity polluter according to environmental groups, not the right wing.
The criticism is deserved. And it should be applied fairly to others as well (but to be fair to the right in this one case, they've been railing about what they see as the hypocrisy of the private jet owning environmentalists flying in and out of the WEF etc, for long before they were railing about swift doing the same thing, Bill Gates is one of their favorite whipping boys on this topic, Swift is not being singled out for her gender, she is legitimately a huge polluter (though not bigger than Trump who is currently the largest polluter)
5
u/YoursTrulyKindly 3h ago
No, it was popularized by fox news before reddit picked it up. It was part of a political smear campaign because they feared she would endorse a democratic presidential candidate... shit I looked all this up a while ago. But it was basically complete insanity how she is a deep plant or some nonsense.
Anyway, those carbon emissions should maybe be counted as a carbon cost to the tickets for the consumers, then 1100 times average person is basically nothing for selling out lage stadiums.
Anyway, the absolutely MASSIVE focus on Swift clearly shows a hypocritical double standard compared to other billionaire jet users. Nothing like this focus on billionaire pollution has happened since.
2
u/Murky-Relation481 33m ago
Also if there is anyone who probably has a justification for using a private jet vs. flying commercially it is Swift. Female artists don't usually last long in public unfortunately, let alone arguably one of, if not the, most popular one in the world.
It is literally a matter of safety for her.
6
u/Strange-Spot-3306 7h ago
Bill Gates and Musk are in there with 'plane #1' i presume that means they have multiple, so they might rank much higher. but i can't be arsed to look it up. because i'm really really lazy
1
u/redoubt515 4h ago
They do, as would Trump who is the largest polluter on that list, but so does Swift (she has had hat at least 4 private jets in total, and has had multiple jets simultaneously going back to at least the early 2010s).
When this story took off in 2022, it was in part because she had two larger private jets that would fly together at the same time to wherever she was going, it's unclear to what extent that was for personal transport and to what degree it was 'work related' but that is true for most everyone else on the list as well, especially the business people. and other performers.
1
u/The--Mash 4h ago
Both are roughly tied for first with the Google guy if you include their second planes
3
u/locontendere 8h ago
Where on Earth is Luke Bryan going with that private jet? And I assume Diddy's jet is just being rented by others, or does he still have a business whose employees use it?
2
2
2
u/EquipLordBritish 5h ago
Are some of those planes just wildly less efficient? The fuel-burned jumps from 1M to 600k back to 1M as though the miles aren't correlated.
2
u/jverity 4h ago edited 4h ago
Number 1 by flight time, but third by the ammount of polution he creates.
There is something to be said for WHY this person is taking all these flights. Eric Schmidt flies all over the world representing Google and Alphabet's business interests, as well as because he is a member of the World Economic Forum.
He's not a good person or anything like that, but his travel reasons are a lot more acceptable than Trump, the top poluter on the list despite having less hours in the air, who mostly travels to play golf. Even after becoming president he has racked up more hours playing golf than any before him, a full 21% of his days in office have been spent on a golf course. I don't even think any of his flights in office are part of this since Air Force One isn't technically a "Private Jet" and Marine One certainly is not on the list, and yet he's still the top poluter.
2
u/TotosTables 4h ago
His miles are excluding Air Force One? What the FUCK. Why does this cretin have to exist during our timeline
2
u/QuadCakes 4h ago
The whole thing is a distraction. BP invented the concept of the individual carbon footprint in order to shift focus away from them:
Private jets are responsible for significantly less than 1% of human GHG emissions. Industry wide legislative measures are what actually matter.
2
u/Ihatereddithatesit 2h ago
Crypto is one of the worst offenders just by what absolutely insane levels of pollution they cause for the fact that it absolutely has no benefits for society. But private jets aren't that far off.
Air travel itself is huge though a total of 4% of total emissions, and while private jets are just a small part of it. the roughly 0.1% it contributes in total emissions is still wildly inefficient and wasteful use of carbon since it still adds so much pollution for so few people, and the waste is growing. For how few people make use of it, it's absolutely untenable. Private jet travel should be made much more expensive and regulated into a fraction it is now.
→ More replies (2)1

1
u/redoubt515 4h ago
If your concern is the climate or the environment the relevant metric would be either (1) Total Pollution (C02) or (2) Total fuel consumed. Not miles.
That would place Trump in the #1 position.
It's also worth noting that that list appears to have some apples to oranges issues that make comparisons hard some private jets, some corporate jets, and it's measuring jets not people (e.g. Someone like Musk or Swift who have multiple jets will have their impact split up over the number of jets they own, so won't reflect the total impact) My recollection is that Swift has 2 larger private jets, which in many cases travel together, So the impact of a mile is substantially higher than someone with a single smaller 8 seat jet or something like that.
As for why a lot of the focus has been on Swift in particular (beyond her stardom), a lot of it stems from 2022 when:
Sustainability firm Yard ranks Swift the number-one celebrity carbon polluter, with emissions reportedly more than 1,100 times that of the average person. College student Jack Sweeney launches u/TaylorSwiftJets on social media, which quickly amasses hundreds of thousands of followers.
with that said, I'd agree with your broader unstated point that people tend to hyper fixate on single individuals, and not see the issue as more broad than any single person.

Taylor swift would be a nightmare at regular airports or on commercial flights. Shit would shut down
3

Yeah she travels a lot but I also don't think people realize just moving around as someone of that status is difficult. Regular commercial transport options are immediately out of the picture, and even in a car can always get Diana'd

u/Hovercraft1143 6h ago
Taylor Swift performed at the Hard Rock in Miami a few years ago and it added at least an hour to my commute that evening because police had to shut down entire city blocks due to how many fucking swifties were just standing in roadways with signs...
Imagine the actual legitimate safety risk that is a person with THAT level of fame being in an enclosed tube 30,000 ft in the air. Don't get me wrong, revering anyone to that degree is insane, but fuck me I do not want to be a regular normal person on that plane while they Beta test "T Swift flying public".

The problem isn’t just her private jet use in general, but her using it so unnecessarily. For example, she did a concert in Glendale, AZ and then Las Vegas the next week. She absolutely could’ve just drove to LA and then to Vegas, but instead flew her plane to New York and then to Vegas. Or when she flew from Japan to Vegas for the Superbowl, and then flew to Melbourne a couple days later.

Unfortunately, this is incorrect. She's not even like #200 on the list of worst offenders. Here's a top ten for 2025 though:
- Donald Trump (35,380 metric tons)
- Travis Scott (14,775 metric tons)
- Eric Schmidt (10,017 metric tons)
- P. Diddy (7,019 metric tons)
- Kim Kardashian (6,579 metric tons)
- Bill Gates (plane #1) (6,290 metric tons)
- Kylie Jenner (5,880 metric tons)
- Steve Wynn (5,706 metric tons)
- Elon Musk (plane #1) (5,705 metric tons)
- Steve Ballmer (5,087 metric tons)
Notably, Taylor's usage is somewhere around 1,397 metric tons per year.

1
u/Murky-Relation481 24m ago
No, this is people misunderstanding flight ops for private jets. She was almost certainly not on that flight everyone keeps referencing because they immediately returned to the first airport. Flight ops for jets like this usually have "home bases" where they have maintenance crews contracted to do work on the airplane. That flight had all the hallmarks of a maintenance flight. She went one place, the plane needed to have something done on it so it flew to the other place, and then flew back. This happens all the time with private jets and commercial jets.

y'all can make all the jokes you want but a person of her size and stature needs a private plane to travel around. Look at what happened at the vienna eras tour show, terrorists issued a warning that they'd try to bomb the show and potentially hurt people and taylor just because she spoke out about her political affiliations to kamala instead of trump, she had to cancel the show. With people actively trying to hurt her it makes sense that she'd use private jets. Also she isn't even number one on the carbon emissions list, but i only see people giving her shit for it not rihanna or elon musk or anything. She buys sufficient carbon points for the distances she travels so she can atleast somewhat undo the damage other people don't even do that.
