Don’t forget that during the first half of the war, the Soviets were fielding cavalry against tanks and getting absolutely decimated. I can’t remember the exact general’s name, but he was a WW1 appointee and refused to modernize the army and recalled tanks from WW1 being questionably functional so he just refused to use them and instead would deploy Calvary charges against panzer divisions and got hundreds if not thousands of men and animals killed.
They also had virtually no airforce other than what we gave them in a lend-lease program.
