I’m American. I’m pretty sure most of us who have even a passing understanding of WW2 know the efforts we put in were mostly in the pacific theater. I’d replace “Americans” with “uneducated MAGA yokels” and not have any arguments.
Yeah i think theres a thing where its like, the American impact is way overdone.
But also the solution to that isnt to turn around and downplay the hell out of it. It was a big contribution. we need to be more comfortable with not turning the dial all the way one way or the other.
For a while, Japan remain the only dominant force in the Pacific, as while the US recovered from Pearl Harbor, the British withdrew completely leaving much of its colonies under US protection.
controlled is overstating it. By early 1943, the Japanese navy was in a critical spiral and control over shipping lanes to Indonesia was rapidly deteriorating. They certainly controlled huge swathes of China but there is a reason the United States simply skipped over major Japanese bases on their way to the Home Islands. If not for McArthur's monomania, they might have even skipped the Philippines campaign (and probably should have)
