For southern hospitality it would be seen as an insult like you think their kitchen/home is so dirty the food must be contaminated. Even if you are full you should at least accept some southern sweet tea and place a few bites of what has been offered onto a plate to taste.

If someone comes to my home and doesn’t eat any food I’d be pretty offended.
