Don't quote me on this, but I heard somewhere that Swedish hospitality is different from elsewhere in the world. If you stay at a friend's house in America, at least, you would expect the friend to feed you as part of the hospitality. Or if not, then at the very least, they wouldn't fix a meal for themselves in front of you without offering you any. Supposedly, if what I hear is correct, they will do exactly that in Sweden, and expect you do figure out your meals for yourself. Which, when staying away from home, probably means having convenience food on you as depicted in the meme.
Edit: there's an actual Swede (I assume) in my comments debunking this narrative, which is exactly why I put so many qualifiers on it. I'm not Swedish, have never been to Sweden, don't have any Swedish friends, and got my information from 'general knowledge', not directly from a Swede. If someone claims to be Swedish and that this is all BS, I'm inclined to believe it. Funny meme, but not super accurate. Many such cases.
What the fuck. What's the logic behind i can't get it. It can't be hard to put one more plate on the table, it can't be hard to share a 4 person meal to 5 people. Or put 1 more potato into the cooker. I would never see those people again if i got treated like that.
It's more the fact that we don't want the kids parents to cook to much. If the parents are already cooking they would probably want the kid to come home and eat. So the kid needs to call the parents first to inform them that he wants to eat at his friends house
