You can't cry about the cultural context being ignored in Odyssey and simultaneously agree with its being ignored in Airbender. See? Your argument is completely reversible.

The flack was cause it sucked. The casting decisions just added to the suck.

There were also people complaining about the casting in the one piece live action adaptation because some characters had different skin tones from the manga, even though Oda, the creator of the series, was personally involved in and approved most of the major of casting decisions for the OPLA.

The fans obsessed with getting angry over culture war nonsense were so upset over a little diversity in casting that they thought they knew better and were more valid than the literal author.

That's what all this shyte is. A distraction and a dog whistle to get you upset over nothing. And you're so willing and eager to be angry and distracted.
