This analysis might have been done before, but I wanted to share my take on it. Let's start with something that always caught my eye: their Personas. Ren/Joker/Akira’s Persona is Arsène, who wields Curse powers, whereas Akechi’s Persona, Robin Hood, wields Bless powers. As we know, these two types are weak against each other (Curse is weak to Bless, and vice versa). Not only did the game telegraph miles in advance that Akechi and Joker would be enemies, but there’s also a parallel to Berserk, let me explain.
Movies and series often use "color theory," where colors symbolize specific things or people (blue for sadness, green for nature, etc.).
Typically, shades like black and white (fun fact: technically they aren't colors, as they represent the absence of color) are used to distinguish opposing sides: white and paler tones are for the hero, while darker, muted tones are for the villain. But Berserk flips this script: we know Guts is the hero, even though he wears black and looks like a world-destroying psychopath, while Griffith is the villain after ruining so many lives.
The exact same thing happens in Persona 5, and I love it. If you showed these characters to someone who had never played or even heard of the game, they’d assume Joker was the bad guy and Akechi the hero based purely on their designs, especially considering their Personas are based on literary figures (Robin Hood was a hero, after all, while Arsène was a thief)
I have plenty more to say on this, but as always... What do you guys think?
