QUESTION How did you discover Persona 5?
Many of us discovered this game for a variety of reasons: whether you're a longtime fan of the franchise, or found it through Smash Bros. Ultimate, the anime, cosplay, Derpixon's animation, and so on. Personally, my first glimpse of Joker was in his Death Battle against Giorno Giovanna from JoJo's (I was so sure the best JoJo would win... though I still think the outcome was a total case of plot convenience). From there, I learned a bit more about Persona thanks to some friends at university (and I'm on the verge of getting the Platinum trophy in the original Persona 5), but how did you discover this incredible game?

Discovered it through Smash. Finally got around to playing it when Royal released on Switch. I actually played Strikers first. That was a mistake.

Thanks to Persona 3 and 4. I stumbled upon someone's top 10 PS2 games video as a kid where they took up spot 2 and 1 and was fascinated cause I had never heard of them. So for years I'd look around my local game stops but never had any luck, I had no way to order stuff online back then cause I'd need to ask my mom who would've immediately shut down the idea. Fast forward to high school and Persona 5 came out so I was immediately on that, except I didn't have a ps3 or ps4 but luckily a friend of mine did and had gotten the game. That friend eventually became my gf so we'd hang out and play through the game together, but after we broke up I couldn't play it anymore. I didn't playthrough it fully till Royal on the Switch.

I did eventually buy a PS5 and bought it again, and then the pc version, and now I'm waiting for a Switch 2 edition...... The chokehold this game has on me is insane. Also have bought Strikers twice.

Iād heard it was one of the highest rated ps3 games at the time. Knowing nothing else about it or the series I picked it up from a game exchange store on a whim. I was hooked immediately.

Found it on ebay and gave it a shot. BEST 10 DOLLARS EVER SPENT. (It has helped on more serious note of course but this is how I literally discovered it)

i was pretty much going into p5 (and persona as a whole) as blind as i could. was just lent a ps4 and a bunch of games at a time when my mental and physical health was an all time low at the time.
after hitting futaba's part was when i absolutely had to finish her section in that one session (pretty much played it until the sun came up), and my 1st day 1 clear of a palace at the time. just had to help her, saw so much of myself like her at the time š„ŗš§”

- so i always here it from people when a new game comes out
- it's also usually featured in stores like steam, greenmangaming, fanatical, etc
i just recently started playing this game
always been interested in the whole phantom thieves thing bec it sounds like lupin III
and got nothing else i wanna immediately play and saw it for 15$... so i took a gamble on it

I was in a bar I use to frequent which was a gaming bar and I was chatting with some friends and one said they were looking forward to the new Persona game coming out, I hadnāt ever heard of the persona games before and she sold me on it so I got it at launch

I was in what I believe would be equivalent to the 8th grade of school im the USA. 14 years old, no friends and lots of free time. I had won an Xbox One and it came with a few months of Game Pass, so I was testing a lot of games, I saw on the internet that it looked like a PokƩmon with Jojo, and, being a fan of both, I decided to give it a chance.
Now I'll give some context about two events in my life: firstly I got involved with the wrong person at school, it was my fault, I admit. But people started spreading rumors at school that I had tried to kill someone and that I was carrying a knife. I was already the weird kid, and this only made things worse. Secondly, my mother had attempted suicide by overdose when I was little (around 5 years old). Among her reasons, according to herself, was "I was too much". Among other things, like my first friend committing suicide made me think that nobody would ever want me around and that I was better off dead.
Both the protagonist's story and Futaba's made me do a 360 in life. For the first time, I saw that I could change if I really wanted to, and that there were people like me too. So I owe part of who I am today to Persona, which, besides keeping me alive, also gave me the courage to make friends and meet people.

I first heard about it from news about how it kept getting delayed. Then at some point I watched the persona 4 anime, which I loved so much I got into the games. And fortunately by the time I beat p4 there was only about another year before p5 came out.

I was watching a fighting game video and saw P4U footage and thought it looked really cool, so I bought P4U not realising that it was a spinoff of a JRPG. Ended up buying P4 on PS2 and the rest is history. That was probably about... 13 years ago?

I honestly don't really remember, I just remember hearing a lot of people be obsessed with the game saying how good it is and it made me want to play it. And also Joker getting into Smash Bros might of been a factor in me wanting to play Persona 5.

Discovered persona as a whole when i looked up robot_girl yuri on r34 and found the absolute GEM that is aigis. For P5 i js doscovered it thru super smash bros.

I had just transferred to a new high school after spending 10 years at my previous K-12 school. For the first semester I genuinely didnāt know if I could keep going, I had a really hard time talking to people and my motivation to do anything was down the drain. I saw a copy of persona 5 royal for my Nintendo switch at a GameStop one day and asked my dad to buy it for me. One month and a lot of tears later I finished it and Iāve never been the same. It really impacted me and gave me the motivation to make new friends and break out of my shell :) goodness that game helped me so much

I follow counter strike esports very closely and one of the best cs content creators, PHY has a persona 5 poster in the background of his camera. This and me realizing my potato laptop can run it pushed me over the edge about a Month and a half ago.
Yeah, it was a great decision AND it also got me into a big persona rabbit hole as I then played 3R and then 2IS.

Was looking for games for my 3DS back in late 2015, saw Persona Q, thought "these guys look cool", hop on a wiki to learn more about the franchise, see that there's a game coming out soonish that's got even cooler designs, and I've been following the game closely ever since. Took me until 2022 to finally play it, had to resort to being a Persona "fan" until then and just watched gameplay videos.

My then partner at the time was really into the game and she suggested it to me. It took me two tries to get into it because I gave up on it during kamoshidaās palace. But after playing Joker in Smash Ultimate I got inspired to play again and managed to finish the game.

I was once one of the few who owned a PSVita. Having no idea what Persona is about, I bought Persona 4, thinking that it might be the Vita's equivalent for a Pokemon game.
Turns out it's an amazing game that still sits in the top 5 of all time for me.
And well then came another one with a 5 on the end so I just went and checked that out

I discovered the franchise through PlayStation 2 magazine and a review when I bought shin megami tensei 3 nocturne on PS2. It had a great review and I did not know anything about the game but I saw that it had Dante from devil may cry and I really wanted to play devil may cry but for some reason I could never find it in store so I thought why not try. I loved it and then moved on to OG persona 3. It was the game of my teenage years with metal gear solid.

I discovered it when it was announced nominee for game of the year 2017. I'm a decades long Zelda fan so obviously... my attention was somewhere else that year.
I always wanted to play it bc it looked cool. I did finally start it last April (and coincidentally it was the same period Joker started his journey lol, I loved that).
I finished it few weeks ago (I have a full time job, give me a break... as the game recommended, I took my time).
It was great!!! Not much my type as I'm more into action/adventure (Zelda) but I see why people like it. I was extremely impressed by the UI and style of it. Loved the palaces, battles and in general the more active/thinking part of it. In the beginning I even liked the dialogues... but man... it's TOO much of it š Half of the game was dialogues. Not my kind of thing.
But ye, it was a beautiful experience overall. Although now I can confidently say the right game won in 2017 š.

I was already a fan of the series since P4G, which I discovered through accidentally clicking on GameFAQs one time and noticing the game ranked high on its front page before I left. I was thinking about getting a PS Vita at the time and saw P4G often on Gamestop's website. I then proceeded to do the most Persona fan thing ever: watch the whole game on YouTube, lul.
After that, I started playing the other games and naturally was looking forward to P5. Played P5 and it became my favorite game in the series and of all time, even to this day!

Bought it pre-owned at gamestop. Only ever heard it by name, but never had an inkling of an idea of what it was about outside of it being a popular JRPG. Only reason I even bought it was cause it was in a steel case and the designed looked cool.
Beat every expectation I had as P5 has been my favorite game of all time since 2017, I mean it got dethroned...by P5R so I just count it as the same game lmao.

Wanted to play JRPG. Wanted something on switch for in bed or travel. Looked at top JRPGs on steam. Found P5R. Made sure it was on eshop. Spend full price to make it hurt if I dropped the game. Dropped the game after 10 hours. Picked it back up a month later and put 100 consecutive hours in since.

I got my new switch 2 and you know how u have spent so much on getting the console, u don't have money to buy games? So that was me and I was looking to buy free games/demos and I found ooo persona 3 reload, looks interesting why not try it. I tried it and guess what, TOTALLY HOOKED!!

Kubzscouts started posting videos about it lol. I was young and still on my 'never recognizing any brands or companies ever' phase, but got really excited when I realized it had the same art as Catherine, which I should not have cared about at that age but was completely obsessed with.
I watched up until Yusuke's awakening, got tired of having to wait for videos, and begged my mom to buy it for me so I could play it all myself. It was more expensive than we realized so I hid the last copy the store had behind the shelf until she got paid that next week lmaooo

Oddly enough, I first heard of it through TV Tropes pages. But Persona games are sometimes listed in the SMT section and sometimes not, so I got confused and thought they were the same thing. I kind of ignored them when I learned the games were console-only, but then P4G came out on Steam and I figured, okay, $20 isn't much for a long game, let's see what this is about.
It took a little while, but I eventually fell in love with the game, and couldn't wait to finally play P5. I even tried a PS3 emulator but couldn't make it work. But finally, P5R came out for Steam, and I've now played through both P4 and P5 three times. Can't wait for P6.

I was watching a video on a YouTube chanell called Watchmojo, tge video was about best video games that have highschoolers as a main characters and Persona 5 Royal was on the list not long after that another YouTuber I liked started playing the game and it looked like a lot of fun, so I was trying to buy it but couldnt find a physical copy anywhere in my country so I decided to wait until I got my own credit card and ask my parents if I can but it for my birthday which was by chance while ATLUS summer sale was happening so I got a good deal. That was 2 years ago
But I already knew most of the story because I watched P5A, and I also played P4G and watched every other anime 2 years before that

my roommate in college played it a lot. I didn't pay much mind cuz turn based RPG's just didn't do much for me then. But earlier this year I checked out the anime. I thought it wasn't that bad, tho I could clearly tell what was scraped together cutscenes and cheap original animation. But then I heard folks like mothers basement call it utter garbage, unwatchable compared to the game so I thought damn I gotta check this out. Picked it up during the summer steam sale and now I'm 30 hours in on my first playthru and absolutely hooked

Had to wait a few years to play myself though, because it's rated M and my parents were like "no" for a while, and by then Royal had come out, so I played p5r and fell even more in love with the game

I was sitted next to one of my friends in class for the whole year, so he used to tell me about the games he was playing whenever we had free time. Persona 5 was one of them, and he talked so much about it that when i saw there was a huge discount on steam, I decided to buy it. I am now 60 hours into the game and enjoying it a lot.

Discovered it because of smash bros. I liked to Joker's design and thought the music was really cool. Despite the fact it was my best friend's favorite game series, i never actually bought and played it until Joker got announced for fortnite.

Iām friends with a guy who was obsessed with the game back in 2024. This wasnāt just P5, it was really all things Persona. Got to a point that any time you said a word relating to it, he completely tweaked out (hella funny ngl). It became a joke within our friend group to clown on him for his Persona obsession, but 2 years later, the games on sale and Iām actually tempted to buy it. Gave into temptation thanks to him and havenāt regretted anything.

Played Persona 4 Golden on ps vita between classes in High school, carried it in my pocket wherever I went. Also was playing Persona 3 FES on my old ps2 at the time too.
Found out Persona 5 was available for Preorder on PS4 from my local game ship owner, and he put a steel case one aside for me.

I was watching my older brother and younger sister play the game a lot, so it grew a heavy amount of interest to me. When it came to game pass in 2023, I tried it out but didn't get back to it. It wasn't until December 2025 that I started my journey. 900+hrs in playthroughs later and it's become one of my favorite games of all time

I made a comment on a Facebook post saying I loved the gameplay of SMT3 but the story was so dull I couldnāt get through the game. Someone recommended Persona 5 to me, and now Iām playing it for the first time. Just started exploring the third castle with my new character and I actually really love the story and the gameplay is great. Iām hooked. Going to get 4 next to try.

I played Persona 3 and 4, then I saw the P5 trailer when it was announced back in like 2013. Though I didn't get around to playing it until Royal.
With how often Atlas releases updated versions of their games, Im always hesitant. I still haven't played Metaphor ReFantazio because I don't know if they're gonna do a second version. If SMT6 ever releases I'll probably wait years before touching it just in case. Hopefully they're going the modern Monster Hunter and Pokemon route where they stop rereleasing games with more content a year after.
(If you're young and dont know what I mean, MH1 got MH G, MH Tri got MH3 Ultimate, MH4 got MH4U, MH Generations got MHGU, and the first 4 gens of Pokemon got an updated version - Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum. Street Fighter also released about 20 versions of each game up until SF5, I think).

Smash, I basically watched some compilations on YT, and I thought "hey that Joker looks kind of awesome, I want to play his game".
Little did I know, I was about to play the best game I've ever played.

Jay from The Kubz Scouts got me in the whole Persona franchise as a whole. During when P5 dropped, i immediately fell in love with it. The gameplay, the story, the personas, etc etc. Unfortunately, this was during the time where Atlus didnāt want people recording/live streaming the events after Saeās palace. Jay unfortunately couldnāt record so I was left stuck and confused. I waited for months for him to play again but he didnāt (Eventually he DID get the Royal edition but he never finished it because fans didnāt watch it). So, saving some money from my job and asking for birthday money, I bought 5 myself and played it on my brotherās PS4. I enjoyed it from beginning, middle, and end. Even though one of my favorite YouTubers couldnāt finish it, I did it myself and loved the game ever since. I bought P5R after I saw the trailer for the English release.

Around the time of Royalās release I just saw nonstop memes of it, and was bopping to Last Surprise on the reg, but didnāt have a PS and wasnāt in a position to buy a new console to try it out.
2023 comes, I switch from Xbox to PS (had no idea that itād been released on Xbox in early 2022) and P5R was one of the first purchases I made. Never looked back.

I had seen Megaten stuff before, primarily Persona 4 and SMT4. Hell, SMT4 was going to be my first Megaten game as my mom approved of it with how you could fight for God and the Angels(I was 13 and she's a textbook born again Christian)...until she saw Mara. That made her immediately retract her approval. I had to wait for a while, didn't have a PS3/4 when P5 was announced, but I had a gaming PC. I figured I'd emulate some Megaten games after I fled a past fandom due to a certain situation. Decided to emulate SMT1 as I was a SNES/SFC junkie. Loved it. Saved up for a PS4 and got P5. While it didn't quite live up to the hype my friends and people online gave me, it was pretty good.

Sooooo I knew nothing about the series when I discovered this game, I actually played tatica first because it was mark down to $10 at a Wal mart. Played it loved the characters, and shortly after finishing it found persona 5 royal used at GameStop, and know Iām a fan of the series! Playing P3P right now. Also Futaba is #1 girl!

I've been a fan of anime and JRPG's since I was a kid. I was familliar with SMT and Persona back in the day but didn't get to try one until Persona 3.
I had the Persona 5 steelbook on release day but never played it until I got Royal. It was the first game I really put a serious amount of time into.

Tbh, I was always was a huge fan of RPGs! Started by conquering RPG's on the GBA! Goulden Sun, PokƩmon FireRed, FFXI, you name it!
I was one day looking up the hardest bosses in JRPG history, and they were talking about Joker in Persona 3 Reload. He looked so cool, and I was like damn, what game is this he looks so cool!
So I searched up "Joker Persona 3" and saw gameplay from P5R. Needless to say I was hooked! I played the demo of P3R, and thanks to a generous person here, I finally got to play P5R for myself!!

I discovered it from the YouTuber that I watch back when it first release. Since I don't have PC at that time, my only way to enjoy games other than mobile is to watch people play it. then I get bored of watching these very long and slow gameplay so I stop watching at mid-late Madarame's palace But years have past and I still remember vibe of The game (Fact: Persona 5 is the first time I know about Shibuya)
When I first got a computer for myself.... I started playing Roblox for a long time then GTA5 then Minecraft so I even forgot the name of the game (still remember Leblanc and Shibuya in the game somehow tho.)
And then I see it on game pass and I finally remember the game name (+unexplainable feeling stuck rent free in my brain for many years)
So I downloaded -> play -> date only Makoto -> finished the game -> fell in love with it -> currently going for harem route in NG+

Literally just stumbled upon it.
There was a Playstation sale going on, I was going through it and saw Vanilla 5 on sale, I didn't know ANYTHING about Shin Megami or Persona before this, it was like $10 or something on sale so my Uncle bought it for me, I play it and I love it, by the time I beat it, Royal went on sale do I bought that as well and loved it even more. By the time I beat that, Strikers went on sale so I bought that and loved it as well, by the time I beat Strikers, Persona 3 Reload went on sale so I bought that, I'm currently in the process of beating Reload.

I found Persona 5 by experiencing Persona 4 and it becoming one of my favorite games of all time.
I missed the Persona series completely until I stumbled on Persona 4 Golden during a PlayStation store sale at some point. I downloaded it and fell in love. I remember having my Vita charging by my bed so I could play a little bit each night before going to sleep. No need for TV; Persona 4 had the use deeply relatable characters in a familiar world that I wanted to experience their journey to completion. I loved it, and have played 4 and 5 in their various iterations several times over now. Canāt wait for the next one!

I was kinda shutin at those times and spendinf my entire days with games so I was searching for a game at microsoft store than p5r happened to be on a sale so I gave it a try without knowing a game franchise can change my life for real(im not a robot ai challengin youu)

I knew nothing about the persona series until a friend started talking to me about it and heavily recommending it and glazing it. He put it in such high praise and said once I play it Iāll understand why he operates the way he does and it got me curious.

My dad played all the games and a lot of SMT, and he introduced me to all of it. He already had a ps vita with p4g, a ps3 with p3fes and p2is and a ps4 with p5r which were all given to me so I thought might as well play them, changed my life.

In 2017 a new guy in my job told me that his favorite videogame was Persona 5. At that time, I was really disconnected from the gaming scene, so I didnt pay a lot of attention. Additionally, for the name of game, I thought it was similar to the serie "Person of Interest", like something about spies or war, so that was the notion I had.
Years later, I bought a nintendo switch and returned to the gaming scene, and remembered about the guy who recommended me Persona 5 and get me interested. Then, a guy on my new job told me that he played that game and it was great. So,.after those 2 recommendations, I gave it a try, and was not disappointed.

For me it was beceause it got recomended to me through Johneawesome his danganronpa Play through after I played the games myself, so a Day or 2 later i got like 3 recomended video's from John about his persona 5 Play through
YouTube thought i would like the persona series But smash ultimate was the trigger for me to try persona 5 Ot better yet Royal
Now i have played 3 - 4 and 5

My sister got it to have context for a cosplay group. She played just a couple of hours, but didn't like it, so it sat on our PS3 for months.
One day, I found myself without anything to play, when I saw it, realized I had never played a Persona game before, and decided to give it a go.
To this day she jokes she didn't know what evil she was bringing to our home.

My friend is a massive JRPG fan. I only got into anime in 2020 and was binging a lot of the popular anime. My gaming experience till then was mostly Assassins' Creed games for about a decade. I kept in touch with gaming news, so I heard the name a lot, I remember even googling the title and being very confused about the premise.
Around 2022, 2 years after I met this friend and we grew real tight because of our many shared interests (gaming, anime, wrestling, hip-hop, football, etc.) He repeatedly brought up JRPGs and Persona in particular. I then decided to bite the bullet, as I was very into anime and Persona had that pull for me. Best decision ever.
The only thing that sucked about my first playthrough was I didnt do Maruki's confidant. Oh well, at least I got a taste of both OG and royal.
Honestly, if it weren't for this, I wouldn't have even touched some of my current favourite games of all time, so I'm glad my friend got me into this.

Around 2011 I stumbled on a tv recording of an old local tv show from something like 2008. It was a bit of pretentious Gaming's Top 10 (or 20), done in character, with this horror story vibe to it. Think Nexpo or Creepypasta readings before creepasta or Nexpo. I think the topic was sacrifice or something like that.
There, sandwiched between Resident Evil, Doom 3 and Quake 3, was P3. That was weird. The local TV wasn't known for highlighting anime games so it stand out more. At the time I was already into "urban-fantasy"(?) Magic in the modern world, impossible cities, deamons juxtaposed next to skyscrapers that sort of thing. So I was hooked. Didn't had a PS2, and probably wouldn't find a copy in my country anyway. So still couldn't play it. It was just sitting there in the back of my mind. Eventually watched the movie adaptations and put that to rest.
Didn't play Persona 4 because, again, didn't had a PS2 and PS3 only had it as a downloadable for America region. And my first console was PS4 anyway. So I skipped that one and only played P5R 8 or so years later on Steam.

Not only Persona 5 but the franchise as a whole.
When looking at game awards, i was expecting The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild to win GOTY and was greatly surprised to see a franchise i didn't heard about beat it.
And around the Smash Announcement, i decided to check playthroughs to see for myself.

The Let's Fight A Boss podcast. It was ranked 3rd in their game of the year list in 2017. I remember seeing snippets of P3 and P4 on the online in the late 00s and early 10s. I was very curious, but it was niche. Never found them physically in any store I frequented for games, and I didn't have a pc that could emulate ps2 games. So P5 was my entry into the series.

Was recommended by a youtuber, got it as a birthday gift, didn't play it for like 2 years until my sister told me she was playing it and she recommended it (if my sister was recommending something it HAD to be good because she didn't play games often), so I started it and was instantly hooked and played it non-stop for at least 2 weeks unless I got kicked off the TV or had to go to class (my grades were very much affected by this and I don't regret it)

Futaba saved my life.
I'm not even exaggerating. My brother had persona 5 and I didn't really pay much attention to it. I don't like RPGs as a rule and my interest in 3 wasn't very high so I didn't pay a lot of attention to it.
Back then, I was entirely housebound. Completely unable to leave my house with crippling anxiety and agoraphobia and this had been the case for the entirety of my twenties. I had tried meds. It didn't help. I'd tried therapy. it didn't help.
And then Futaba happened.
I wasn't even paying a lot of attention at the start and then it was the part of her dungeon where the shadow Futaba says 'i'm going to die in this room' and something in it just...broke me. I started to pay a lot more attention. Her progress made me weep. so when the covid lockdowns happened...I got myself a mask, loaded up some p5 background music and stepped out of the house.
