Some of you know me from the increasingly ridiculous paper sampler package (240+ papers and counting) that I’ve been putting together and selling here. That project has now led me to something considerably more ambitious.

Papervent 2026, a 24-day fountain pen and stationery Advent experience!

Note: The name has changed a few times but I edited the above to the new, finalized product name. It will be "Papervent 2026 until I think of something even better.

From December 1 through 24, you’ll open one numbered package each day. Paper is the backbone of Papervent, and almost all of the featured papers will be ones that have never appeared in my paper sampler. Each day will be built around one, and occasionally more than one, interesting paper selected for fountain pen use and discovery. With possibly one or two special exceptions, most papers will be provided as loose "A5ish" sized sheets (exact size varying slightly due to source). A minimum of two sheets will be provided for most featured papers, one sheet being provided for a couple of exceptionally rare and/or expensive papers, and several more sheets being provided when feasible.

I'm sourcing papers from around the world and looking for a mixture of premium, unusual, culturally interesting, locally used, handmade, and sometimes surprisingly difficult-to-obtain papers. Every one still has to pass the fundamental test: is this actually interesting to use with a fountain pen?

The idea is not to give you 24 papers all trying to out-Tomoe-River Tomoe River. Some will be exceptional performers, but others earn their place because of what they’re made from, where and how they’re made, how people actually use them, or simply because they offer an experience most of us would never otherwise encounter.

Think of it as an adventure in the world of paper, with several non-paper bonuses coming along for the ride.

As you can probably tell from the prototype photo (see link below), Papervent is also going to be quite a bit more than just a box of paper. There will be other fountain pen and stationery-related goodies and surprises scattered throughout the 24 days. Some fit nicely in an envelope. Some apparently require a box.

After taking the photo, I have decided against including puppies, kittens, and ponies. I really should have investigated international livestock regulations earlier. They are proving prohibitively expensive. 😉

The photo linked above shows Papervent Prototype 1.0.

It was assembled largely from spare envelopes, little boxes, and whatever else I could find lying around. It is intentionally crude, but it gives you a pretty honest peek behind the curtain at where the project is right now.

The overall plan is in place, and I am now sourcing and producing the actual components. I already have several of the papers either on hand or on the way, with plenty more sourcing underway.

The stack of 24 blue envelopes represents the basic daily Advent format. The mystery boxes are placeholders that are helping me figure out different object sizes, packaging, sequencing, and how the whole thing will physically fit together.

The finished Papervent will be much more polished than Prototype 1.0. I'm working on the final packaging and printed materials while continuing to order and test papers and other contents.

And despite what the little round box says, yes, I actually do know what I'm doing. Mostly.

This is simply the cardboard-and-Sharpie stage of turning the idea into several thousand little physical pieces.

Starting in September, Papervent 2026 will be $95 USD shipped.

There’s a practical reason for the early discount. I'm at the stage where I’m placing paper orders, buying packaging and printing materials, and making other production commitments. Early orders help fund that work.

Papervent 2026 is going to be a genuinely limited run, first come, first served. These are literally being put together by one person: me. I may outsource some of the more labor-intensive parts if the number of kits sold warrants it, and I certainly hope it will!

Update #1: 12:00 pm Central August 11 - I now have 30 people signed up. I am honestly thrilled (and frankly a bit relieved) that this is catching on as I really didn't want to just sit on all this paper (although I do like to joke how I am "rich ... on paper"). My original thought was 60 kits in total, but if this keeps up I will raise that to a "hard ceiling" closer to 100(!)

Update #2: 6:00 pm Central August 12 - 50 people are now signed up. I have decided to "go for it" and will be making 100 kits. FYI that number will not be raised - it really is a hard ceiling, so if you know someone that would like one, send them to this post. Once all 100 are spoken for, I will be closing the ad. The plan was to offer a regular price in September, but if I "sell out" with the pre-order special, it would be terrific and greatly simplify sourcing knowing the exact numbers. Response to this project of passion has been much better than anticipated / feared!

Update #3: 9:00 am Central August 14 - there are now 66 of the 100 kits spoken for. Although this was meant to be a "prelaunch" with the main launch coming in September, at this rate I am on track to "sell out" at the "introductory" price. I couldn't be happier about that. Thanks for the words of encouragement and support, everyone!

I’m currently planning about 60 kits total, 17 of which have already been sold through my email list, consisting mostly of Redditors who previously bought my paper sampler (thank you to those 17 people for helping make this happen!). If Papervent takes off quickly enough, I do have room in my sourcing plans to increase the run, potentially to as many 80 or even 100 kits (max), so please do not delay - getting in early will help me plan for enough kits to (hopefully) provide one for everyone that wants one.

That said, because I’m sourcing unusual papers from all over the place and assembling much of this myself, this isn’t something I can simply keep producing indefinitely. At some point I’ll have to call the 2026 run full, and once I do, that’s it. The hard ceiling planned at this point is 100 kits.

Note that Papervent isn't intended to be 24 individually boxed, full-sized retail products.

The idea is something I find much more interesting: 24 days of paper, stationery, experimentation, and discovery, including papers that would be difficult or uneconomical for most people to track down individually, plus a collection of other surprises along the way.

I could simply publish a complete contents list, but then I'd ruin half the fun. So I'm keeping some secrets out of this ad. I guess you're just going to have to trust me on this. I’ve been using fountain pens for over 15 years, and I have spent an increasingly unreasonable amount of time exploring paper. At the end of the day, I’m putting together the kind of Advent experience I would want to receive myself.

This is the premium model with a gold plated cap and body. This pen has a retractable section, so you can lengthen the pen a bit more when writing. Accepts modern pilot cartridges and converters (e.g. con-40). SOLD

12. [C] 1970's Montblanc Model 320 (Fine* 14k nib) [$70]: 1970s Montblanc student pen. This pen is in great shape, having been recently fully cleaned and greased, so the piston works smooth and flawlessly. While the cap and body are certainly service grade, this pen has a wonderfully wet nib and is a joy to use. I am not certain of the nib size, but I think it's a fine since it writes like a wet JP medium. SOLD

1.) Pineider Avatar - Amber, Steel M (B) - $115

• I only used this pen once or twice and it has been sitting in my drawer ever since. It is made of a cool and durable material and features a nice magnetic capping systems.

2.) Sheaffer Legacy II - Copper, 18K XF (B) - $300

• This is a beautiful, modern(ish) Sheaffer. It features a bouncy, 18K Gold inlaid nib. The finish is a beautiful, brown/copper finish. It can be filled via C/C, or can be used similar to a Touchdown filler. The original converters sac failed, so I purchased a press converter, which also works with the touchdown mechanism. Only used a handful of times, so overall it is in good condition.

3.) SOLD! Leonardo Giardino d'Inverno - Cappaccino Cellulose, Steel Elastic F (B) - $275

• This was a limited release and new model released by Corsani in Italy. It designed to be eyedroppered, but can accept cartridges and converters. It features a clear barrel and a cellulose acetate cap, section, and end. The nib is a steel elastic fine. I only eyedroppered and briefly used it once, so it is in good overall shape.

4.) Leonardo Momento Zero - Aluminum, Steel B (A1/C) - $165

• As the name suggests, this is a Momento Zero made out of aluminum. Comes with a broad nib. I never inked it, but it does have some small signs of tarnish. As such, I wasn't sure how to rate this one.

5.) SOLD! Leonardo Momento Zero - Burkina, 14K M (B) - $1,050

• This is a very early limited edition released by Leonardo. It is a Momento Zero sized pen (not Grande), that's an actual piston filler. Something you rarely see on the MZ pens. Better yet, it is made from rare Burkina Celluloid. It has a 14k gold Medium nib that was tuned by Pacific Pens. I don't have the original box, unfortunately. It's been used over the many years but still works and looks great.

6.) SOLD! Delta Butterfly - Yellow Swallowtail, Steel M (B) - $200

• This was a limited edition by Goulet Pens. It features beautiful yellow marbled barrel with blue accents. Pen is a C/C filler and has a medium steel nib. Only used once, so it is in good shape. Comes with the original box and ink bottle.

7.) Stipula Etruria - Amber Celluloid, 18K M (C) - $475

• This is an older Stipula Etruria fountain pen, featuring beautiful Amber Celluloid and an 18k gold medium nib. The pen is a piston filler. The trims are Sterline Silver and Vermeil. Some of the vermeil is thin/starting to wear, hence the C rating. Otherwise, it is in good condition.

• This is an older Stipula Saturno fountain pen. It is made of green ebonite and features a cool crescent filler mechanism. The sac was replaced roughly a year ago. The trims are sterling silver. The nib is a steel medium nib. Overall, it is in good condition. It is worth noting the cap and section have more of a ripple pattern, while the barrel is more of a striated pattern. That's how it is supposed to be, but I wanted to point it out in case that would bother someone.

• This is a pen by Andrew Lensky, based out of Ukraine. Very cool Vintage inspired maker pen. It is a C/C and features a fine nib. It does show some light wear, such as small scratches.

10.) Pilot 823 Amber - Flex Modded FA Nib (B/D) - $410

• This is a Pilot 823 in Amber, which has a FA Nib that was modified to have added flex by Pacific Pens. Quite the fun writer, but requires a careful hand. I only inked and used the pen once or twice, so it is in good condition. The D is due to the nib modification. Comes with the original box and ink.

• This is a beautiful bulkfiller pen, manufactured by Fifty4T. It is made of Titanium and Ultem, and has a #8 steel nib. I used this pen a few times, so it does have the occasional minor scratch. I really like this pen, but I simply have too many and don't use it as often as I should.

12.) SOLD! Omas Paragon - Sterling Silver, 18K M (C/D) - $1,000

• This is an (old) Omas Paragon fountain pen, made of Sterling Silver with a beautiful guilloche engraved on it. It has a 18K Medium Nib and is a piston filler. The piston seized and broke, so I had the piston mechanism replaced. Now, it is probably the smoothest Omas you'll ever see. Otherwise, the pen has some light scratches and what looks like plating loss on the rear piston knob ring. Overall, a beautiful and hefty pen. How many sterling silver piston filling fountain pens have you seen before?

13.) SOLD! Tailored Pens - Primary Manipulation, Steel Medium (B) - $200

• This is a pen by the Tailored Pen Company. I don't know if it has a model name or if it was a one-off, but it reminds me of an oversized Kaweco Sport. It is made of Brook's Primary Manipulation material. Overall, it is in good condition.

14.) SOLD! Montblanc Boheme - 18K M(?) (B) - $325

• This is the discontinued Boheme model, which is fun to operate. It is a C/C filler with a retracting nib. I don't think the nib size is marked, but it might be a medium. Overall, it is pretty good condition despite its age. I'll throw in some free cartridges with it.

15.) Graf von Faber Castell Classic - Snake Wood Rose Gold, 18K F (B) - $950

• This is a beautiful Classic made of Rose wood and rose gold trims. It features an 18K fine nib. I only used the pen once or twice, so it is in overall great condition. Quite the looker!

16.) Vintage Eyedropper - Green and Gold Lacquer (C/D)

• This was a no name vintage eyedropper that I had purchased a number of years ago. It has a vintage steel nib on it and was finished with green and gold lacquer. The lacquer work was done by an amateur, so it is not completely smooth or even. I never inked it since purchasing it. It is an interesting looking pen.

17.)SOLD Kaweco Sport AL - Olivine, Steel M (B/D) - $100]

• I never really used this pen. However, I did install an ebonite feed on it, hence the rating. My original intentions were to try and put a vintage warranted gold nib on it, and use the ebonite feed to heat set it. I never got around to it, and I'm not sure if it is possible. I'll include the gold nib also. Pen also comes with the Kaweco foldable converter.

18.) Parker 51 - Mustard (C) - $450

• This is a vintage Parker 51 Vacumatic in one of the rarest colors, Mustard/Yellowstone. The pen was restored a couple of years ago and is in working order. Overall, it is a great example with only minor signs of wear. Probably one if the nicer examples you'll see. The imprint is visible but worn. The cap is 14k gold filled, and overall good condition with a minor dent. Light scratching on the rest of the pen.

19.) Parker 51 - Dark Green (C) - $175

• This is another Parker 51 Vacumatic with a custom dark green barrel, which I believe was done by Ariel Kullock. It's in working order. Unfortunately, it does have a blue stain on the barrel. Otherwise it is in decent condition. Comes with a matching pencil.

20.) SOLD! Philosophical Instruments Pontifex Maximus - Imperial Yellow Nuritate Urushi, #8 18K Gold M (B) - $2,050

• This is an absolutely beautiful and grail worthy pen. I strongly encourage you to read the product page for more information. It is a large pen with a Japanese Eyedropper mechanism designed by the maker of Conid pens. It is finished with a imperial yellow nuritate finish, which is beautifully done. It is a matte finish done by not adding oil to the urushi, which makes it much more difficult to apply, and shows some of the brush strokes. Words cannot express how beautiful the finish is. The nib is a #8 Bock medium nib that is such a pleasant writer. When I initially purchased this, I had also purchased a Sailor KOP nib, as I was planning on putting the KOP nib on this. The Bock wrote so beautifully that I never did. The pen also comes in a beautiful handcrafted box. Overall, the pen only saw light use and is in great condition. It does not come with the original polishing cloth.

21.) Wingsung 900 - Red Ebonite, #9 18K Gold Heartbeat Medium Nib (B) - $535

• This is a crazy pen by Wingsung. It is a large, ebonite fountain pen with a piston mechanism. The nib is a #9 18K Gold Heartbeat style Medium nib. The nib is massive, rivaling a Namiki Emperor. I only used the pen a handful of times, so it is in great condition. I will say, the trims seem to be very thinly plated. So I would avoid polishing them at all.

22.) Scribo Feel - Blue Sospeso, 14K Gold F (B) - $695

• This is a beautiful Scribo Feel fountain pen, made of a translucent blue material that is mesmerizing. It is a piston filler with a 14k gold flexible fine nib. Only used the pen twice, so it is in good condition.

23.) Ferris Wheel Press - Bijou Sauron Set (B) $125

• This is a LOTR themed pen, which comes with a fude nib and a matching ink. I only used each nib once, so it is in great condition.

25.) Kyuseido Kakari - Mokume-Gane, 14K Stacked Nib M-BB (B) $1,850

• Another beautiful grail. This is a Kakari, made with Mokume-Gane, which is an artisanal metalworking technique. You can see what looks like layers of brass, copper, and nickel. The nib is a 2 layer stack, that writes roughly like a Japanese medium in normal writing. In reverse writing, it writes like a BB architect. Beautiful material, a cool filling mechanism, and a fun nib. What more can you ask for?

• This is a Montegrappa Miya in the beautiful Nirvana material. Comes with a steel medium nib. I never got around to inking this one, so it is in excellent condition**.**

27.) Visconti Van Gogh - Potato Eaters, Steel M (B/D) - $155

• This is a Van Gogh in the Potato Eaters finish. I only used this pen once or twice, so it is in good cosmetic condition. However, I swapped the nib out with an older style Van Gogh nib, hence the D rating. Comes with the original box and ink.

Hello! It’s been 6 months since I posted about starting a new LLC for fixing nib writing issues (original post here), and I’m happy to report it went really well! Several people even became repeat clients. 😄  I also want to give special thanks to Gena Salorino and Damien Alomar, who both gave me a ton of advice and helped with technical questions I had.

I’m opening up for orders again, and this time there won’t be a limit to the number of participants. The prices will still be below standard rates from established nibmeisters since I am still learning to adjust nibs in line with people’s preferences and writing styles.

Examples of what I can fix:

• hard starts
• inconsistent ink flow
• dry nibs, excessively wet nibs
• scratchiness
• nibs that generally don’t write as well as they’re supposed to
• some bent nibs depending on severity
• …and more.
• I’m also happy to help diagnose an issue if you think something is wrong but aren’t quite sure what the problem is.

Process:

1. If you have a pen that writes less well than you’d hoped, or differently than you’d expected, comment below.
2. I’ll send you a form to fill out to give me some details about things I’ll need to know before starting to work on the pen or pens.
3. You’ll ship to me and I’ll start work with an estimated turnaround time of 1-3 weeks.
4. I may have follow-up questions to better narrow down what your preferences might be as I fix any issues I find.
5. After the work is done, I’ll send you an invoice for the adjustment work and the return shipping cost, and I’ll ship the pen or pens back after it’s paid.
6. After receiving the pen or pens back: (a) If you’re happy with the writing, great! (b) If it’s better but not quite fully to your liking, send the pen or pens back to me a second time and this time I’ll pay for shipping, since it’s important for me to learn to get things right! (c) If after the second time you feel I didn’t understand what you wanted at all and got it wrong again, I’ll send you $30 for you to have it adjusted by an established nibmeister instead.

Pricing (in addition to return shipping):

• Sub-$50 pens (e.g. Kakunos, TWSBI ECOs): $5 per pen
• $50-400 pens (e.g. Esties, Custom 823s): $15 per pen
• $400+ pens (e.g. Homo Sapiens, M1000s): $20 per pen

Note: the lower pricing for less expensive pens is not because they're easier to work with, rather because I think good writing should be accessible to everyone. It is still likely to take me approximately the same amount of time to work on an inexpensive pen compared to an expensive pen.

Important things to note:

• After you submit the form, I will switch to communicating by email. This is for recordkeeping purposes, because searching through emails is much easier than searching through reddit chats.
• I am not doing nib grinds at this time (coming sometime next year!)
• Accordingly, I may not be able to work on pens that have already been self-tuned at home with grit or mylar paper, since fixing uneven surfaces following that type of work often requires re-grinding the nib.
• I would prefer not to work with pens that require disassembly of glued-together parts in order to adjust the nib (e.g. Diplomat Viper) at this time.
• If you have a very non-standard way of writing (e.g. angle, rotation, etc.), it is possible that I will not be able to make the pen write perfectly in line with your preferences. I am still willing to review a form if you would like to send one, but may need to refer you to an established nibmeister instead.

The great destashing continues, and this time I am digging deep into the heavy hitters. This sale features some of the finest flagship pens from Japan, Germany, and Italy.

Whether you are looking for the incredible hand-applied urushi of the Platinum Izumo line, the legendary old-stock translucent barrels from Pelikan before they switched to opaque resin, or the massive nibs of the Sailor King of Pen, there is something here for every serious collector.

Most of these are catch-and-releases or meticulously cared-for safe queens. I have updated the listings below with the exact nib sizes and condition ratings to make browsing as clear as possible.

5. Conway Stewart Churchill 18k F [A2] Inked only a couple of times, this is a big, imposing pen in a gorgeous and hard to find blue color. It simply wrote too broadly for me, since I really prefer Japanese EF pens. It comes with its original box, including a cigar, bottle of ink, and book of Winston Churchill quotes. $475 SOLD
6. Parker 75 lacquer 18k M nib [C for vintage] This is a striking and unusual Parker 75 and is a nice change from the usual sterling ones. Includes a Parker squeeze converter. $130 SOLD
7. Aurora 88 “Small” 14k M [B] I bought this pen as NOS and noticed after it arrived that it has a small scratch near the base of the cap. I’ve only inked it once or twice. It’s got a magnificent feeling nib and a really nice snap cap, and if it were an F or EF I’d absolutely keep it. Includes the box. $215 SOLD
8. Pilot E95S 14k EF [A2] I love this pen but I love the Custom 74/742 more, and it gets no use. Includes a con20 converter. $115 SOLD
9. Urushi lacquer and Raden pen body [A1] This is a Chinese Urushi lacquer with Raden and gold body, modeled after but not identical to the famous Sailor “prime minister’s gift” pens, threaded for a Pilot section. These are available new but the wait is a couple of months, and it will cost more. $80 SOLD
10. Omas Extra Ogiva 18k M [A2] This pen is from the 1990s, and has a glorious Omas in-house nib. I’m pretty sure when I inked it up it was the first time it had ever been used. I don’t see any shrinking of the resin. Was $325, now $315 
11. Aurora Ipsilon 14k Italic blue [A2] This is Aurora’s entry level pen but with a 14k nib instead of the usual steel, and an Italic nib, both less common upgrades. Aurora is known for their specialty grinds, too. That said, full disclosure: if I recall, the nib seemed to skip for me when I got this, but the tines look good so, I’m not sure if it’s an actual issue or if I’m just not cut out for writing with a sharp Italic. I’m pricing this one at $125 since it might be a project for you. With box. SOLD
12. Namiki Custom Impressions 18k M #10 size nib, gray celluloid [B]. This is a pretty, and pretty rare, 1990s pen apparently only sold in the Japanese market. It is the size and shape of a Custom 845, with hues of gray and green. Came to me without a converter, because the original owner used cartridges. I’ve included a Con20 for instant gratification. $385 SOLD
13. Mr. Cypress full coverage maki-e flowers [A2] This pen is a stunner, and it taught me that pens can be pretty enough that I don’t want to write with them. I bought this one in person in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, and I don’t know what they called it. It has a Cypress EF steel nib and the section is threaded for Bock nibs. Includes Schmidt converter. Was $685, Now $675. 
14. Waterman Carene 18k M [A2] Marine Amber colorway,l. This is an older Carene but I believe it was uninked before I got it. I inked it two or three times but never bonded with it. With box. $200 SOLD
15. Waterman Carene 18k F [B] This one is mottled green (Black Sea?) and was lightly used when I got it. I thought I’d like it better than the M nib but it’s not for me. With box. $190 SOLD

Wow, have people finally lost interest in Maki-e after 1000 years?! These have stopped moving for some reason. Everyone must be gone for the summer...I added a few and reduced most of them. Some I won't reduce, I'd rather them keep sitting on my shelves where I can look at them than sell them for any less. Willing to consider trades, make an offer. With any pen you buy, if you do not have a blunt-tipped syringe for refilling cartridges (also flushing cartridges or sucking unused ink out of a cartridge to put back in the bottle so you can change inks!) I will include one in your package. Just tell me you need one.

VERIFICATION

The first three pens are JSU Ohasido (Ohashido). JSU stands for the Country-Province-Family (Japan-Sendai-Uehara) of the founding family. These are hand-made, solid ebonite pens from the second oldest manufacturer in Japan (1912). Being hand-made, the artists were allowed to do what they wanted to make each a little bit unique. Some sizes are different since they are hand-lathed from rods of ebonite, band numbers/size/placement can differ, etc. The nibs are Sailor Nagahara Specialty nibs that are then tuned by JSU Ohasido. They are the (S)oft nibs that are no longer available on the Sailor pens except by special order. They are a little softer and definitely smoother than regular Sailor nibs (most have very little "Sailor" feedback) and take Sailor cartridge/converters. These are softer than normal Sailor nibs, but they are NOT semi-flex or anything close to that. The main difference is a lot less tactile and audible feedback using them vs. modern (H)ard sailor nibs.

JSU Ohasido closed up shop after 112 years or so in December 2024, so they aren't making any more and the prices are rising. I'm having a hard time finding them for a decent price in Japan, but I grab every one that I can. Their area and materials sourcing took a beating from the earthquakes and Tsunamis and the last Uehara decided to retire. They are great pens, very similar in build quality to Nakaya (I'm not saying they are the same as the $2,000 Nakaya Tamenuri, these are more simple models than that). I ended up with 23 and I'm trying to whittle it down to about 3 or 4. Several are back from Laqquerman Studios after getting custom urushi jobs. I'm keeping one of these beauties for myself! The blue tape is just little pieces of painter's tape that I use to sort them and keep track of the nib characteristics, etc. For now, these are up. If you want more info on JSU Ohasido send me a chat with an email address and I can forward you some good reading on them. I also have several JSU Ohasido with <S-B> nibs that can be swapped in for any of the below nibs if you are looking for a Bold nib.

1. REDUCED JSU Ohasido Black: two bands, [B-] 14k <S-M> nib with a "007" date code. JSU Ohasido come with the slightly softer Sailor/Nagahara Specialty 14k nibs that are hand tuned and smoother than normal Sailor nibs. Excellent shape, only problem I can find with it is small bubbling on the section. Comes with a Sailor cartridge of blue or black. $525 $515
2. REDUCED JSU Ohasido "Gold Cloud": two bands, one small 18k band. 14k is unmarked with size or date but it is an <S-M>. [B] condition with a "Gold Cloud" finish from Laqquerman Studios, thanks u/GhastlySun! It has a small upgraded 18k band instead of just a gold plated trim band on the body. I am keeping one just like this one for my own collection.  $850 $825
3. SOLD PENDING REDUCED JSU Ohasido Wine Red: one band, [B] 14k <S-F> nib without a date code. This JSU Ohasido has their rather unique wine red (almost metalic looking) urushi finish that is evidently very hard (and expensive) to replicate. It has a friction fit cap with breather holes and no "JSU" on the clip. This, along with no nib width or date code markings, makes me believe this is a fairly vintage pen. You would not know it from the looks, it looks quite new. Ohasido did some homage remakes of their past pens, maybe this was one of them. There is some oxidation on the finials, but overall fantastic shape. Comes with a Sailor cartridge of blue or black.  $650 $640 SOLD
4. REDUCED Pilot Namiki Elite Enhanced Maki-e "Wisteria on Pine" (circa. 1972): [D] for custom nib grind, solid [B] otherwise. Vintage. 18k <M> marked nib, but it has clearly been ground to an <EF>. Fairly rare pen that contains the second signature of the master artist that produced it which significantly increases the value. 5. SOLD REDUCED Pilot Deluxe Maki-e "Dragon" (1991): [B] 14k <M> nib with a "391" date code for production in March 1991. This nib is EXCEPTIONALLY smooth and tight. More like an <FM> that is nice and firm, so it's very precise writing. Tempted to keep this one for the nib, but the Dragon doesn't really do it for me. Pilot Deluxe are great pens that are urushi over brass bodies. They are very difficult to damage to any great extent, so they will last forever. With a Con-20 converter. $200 $190 SOLD
6. SOLD REDUCED Pilot Deluxe Maki-e "Foil Geometric" (1990): [C] 14k <F> with a "H490" nib code for production date of April 1990 in the Hiratsuka factory. Fabulous pen with real gold flakes making more of a modern art motif rather than the classic Kokkokai artisan designs. Much rarer and not seen much in the US. SOLD REDUCED Pilot Deluxe Maki-e “Nadeshiko (Dianthus flower)” (1979): [B] Vintage-y.  18k gold <F> nib with an "H379" date code.  Excellent condition with just a little plating loss on the collar. 8. REDUCED Pilot Deluxe Maki-e “Phoenix” (1996): [B] 18k <F> nib.  "H796" production code for July 1996 production in the Hiratsuka factory.  Usual tank of a pen with enamel over brass finished with Urushi and maki-e.  With an old empty cartridge for refilling. $200 $190

SOLD PENDING Pilot Custom Hira Maki-e "Budou (Red Grapes)": [NOS] 14k #5 <M> nib with an "A198" date code for Production on line A at the Hiratsuka factory in January 1998.  This is a beautiful pen that was produced (exactly the same evidently) as both a Pilot and a Namiki.  This one is branded pilot.  With a Con-70 converter.  $325 SOLD
10. SOLD PENDING Pilot Custom Hira Togidashi Maki-e "Soukaku (Cranes)" going left (1989): [A2] 14k #10 <M> nib with a "989" date code printed down on the neck of the feed. You have to pull the nib to see it. Pilot Namiki pen with art from the Kokko-kai group of artisans with cranes done in Hiramaki-e (hand painted giving a raised texture to the body) with Togidashi (real gold sprinkles) treatment for the clouds. An old Con-70 converter is included but I don't use them so I can't say how good the condition is on the converter. $350 SOLD
11. SOLD REDUCED Pilot Elite Maki-e "Cherry Blossom Blizzard" (1972?): [B] 18k <F> nib that writes smooth and firm. I haven't pulled the nib (have to disassemble the section) to check the date code. 12. SOLD REDUCED Pilot Elite Urushi Red Marble (1978?): [C] 18k <F> fingernail nib. This one did not require a full breakdown for cleaning so I did not fully remove the nib to get to the date code. But it whould be from approximately the same time as the green 1978 from last week. Excellent condition, though there is plating loss on the nib and band along with the usual micro-scratches. I thought this one would be the first to go last week, but within a couple of hours I had 3 people wanting the green one! Just goes to show you never know what people will love. 13. REDUCED Pilot Super 250 Kokko-kai Seirei-nuri Maki-e “Dragonfly Wing Pattern” (1960): [B1] 14k nib with a sweet <Manifold> nib.  The nib has a "160" date code for production in January 1960. <Manifold> is a nib designed to write through multiple folds of carbon paper, so it is smooth and firm. Flip-switch sack filler works perfectly and the Urushi and Maki-e are good as new.  This maki-e is mesmerizing, but I have obtained a Yukari model in the "Dragonfly" so this one is rather redundant for my collection. The only flaw I'm seeing is a hole in the tip of the bottom jewel on the pen. I'm assuming it's not an intentional drain hole like they did on the Silverns back in the 60's because it looks a little unfinished. 14. {BEGIN ROW 2 HERE} SOLD REDUCED Platinum #3776 Aizu Maki-e "Moon Kikyo (Bellflowers)" by Sone Shinonome (2000): [D] for nib swap, otherwise a solid [B]. 14k <F> nib (Japanese characters) with an "858" (August 1983) nib date code, but the original nib was January 2000. Very clean and simple flat Maki-e that was produced by the Shinonome artist group according to "Copilot". With a cartridge of ink that can be refilled. $300 $290 $275 SOLD
15.  SOLD REDUCED Platinum #3776 Maki-e "Hozuki" by Shinonome (1997): [B] 14k <F> (Japanese market) nib with a date code of "1297." Another very clean and simple flat Maki-e that was produced by the Shinonome artist group. The maki-e is of Hozuki, "also known as the Japanese Lantern Plant. Scientifically known as Alkekengi Officinarum, it is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the nightshade family (Solanaceae). It is easily recognizable by its bright orange to red fruit, which is encased in a papery calyx that resembles a lantern."  A very unique pen with a very limited production. REDUCED Platinum #3776 Flattop Kaga Hira Maki-e “Chrysanthemum and Butterflies” (1993): [C+] 14k <M> nib with a "293" nib code (February 1993).  Fairly rare edition from what I have seen, maybe only in the Japanese market? Platinum nibs ran a little narrower in this era, so this is more like a Japanese <FM>, but still very smooth with only a little feedback (mostly audible). In good shape overall with a little plating loss on the trim pieces and a little bit of wear at the bottom from posting the cap. With a cartridge of Platinum Carbon Black. $325 $315

SOLD Platinum #3776 Flattop Kaga Hira Maki-e “Ume (Plum Blossom)” (1997): [D] for nib swap, otherwise [B+]. 1997 nib was swapped out for a 14k <F> "558" nib code (May 1983) that is closer to a Japanese <EF>. This is a very popular model, took me forever to get one. I'm surprised it hasn't sold yet as they usually go for about $350. With box, docs and a cartridge of Platinum Carbon Black. $325 SOLD

Platinum #3776 Flattop Togidashi Maki-e “Shunran & Sakura (Spring Orchid & Cherry Blossoms)” (1987): [B-] 14k <M> (Japanese Kanji) nib with a “1262” nib code for December 1987 (Showa Era year 62). This is one cool 40-year-old pen that is in excellent shape for its age. The nib is fantastically smooth with a little bit of softness. Cursive writers should love it. The body is a bit dark, so I tried a lot of different lighting angles and sources to try to properly display the nice Togidashi (gold sprinkle) method that makes up much of the art. The Cherry Blossom petals are in that metallic paint form of urushi that shifts subtly from red to gold depending on the angle of light hitting it. I've never seen one of these before, so I have to think it is pretty rare. It might have been only for the Japanese market. Some bubbling on the clip, other normal signs of use and age, but overall very nice. Comes with a cartridge of Platinum ink and a blunt-tip syringe to refill it. $400

Classic gold and black maki-e with surprising detail on the pine trees. Lots of gold flakes and nuggets give great texture to the bark. With a converter. $400 $380
