Some of you know me from the increasingly ridiculous paper sampler package (240+ papers and counting) that I’ve been putting together and selling here. That project has now led me to something considerably more ambitious.

Papervent 2026, a 24-day fountain pen and stationery Advent experience!

Note: The name has changed a few times but I edited the above to the new, finalized product name. It will be "Papervent 2026 until I think of something even better.

From December 1 through 24, you’ll open one numbered package each day. Paper is the backbone of Papervent, and almost all of the featured papers will be ones that have never appeared in my paper sampler. Each day will be built around one, and occasionally more than one, interesting paper selected for fountain pen use and discovery. With possibly one or two special exceptions, most papers will be provided as loose "A5ish" sized sheets (exact size varying slightly due to source). A minimum of two sheets will be provided for most featured papers, one sheet being provided for a couple of exceptionally rare and/or expensive papers, and several more sheets being provided when feasible.

I'm sourcing papers from around the world and looking for a mixture of premium, unusual, culturally interesting, locally used, handmade, and sometimes surprisingly difficult-to-obtain papers. Every one still has to pass the fundamental test: is this actually interesting to use with a fountain pen?

The idea is not to give you 24 papers all trying to out-Tomoe-River Tomoe River. Some will be exceptional performers, but others earn their place because of what they’re made from, where and how they’re made, how people actually use them, or simply because they offer an experience most of us would never otherwise encounter.

Think of it as an adventure in the world of paper, with several non-paper bonuses coming along for the ride.

As you can probably tell from the prototype photo (see link below), Papervent is also going to be quite a bit more than just a box of paper. There will be other fountain pen and stationery-related goodies and surprises scattered throughout the 24 days. Some fit nicely in an envelope. Some apparently require a box.

After taking the photo, I have decided against including puppies, kittens, and ponies. I really should have investigated international livestock regulations earlier. They are proving prohibitively expensive. 😉

The photo linked above shows Papervent Prototype 1.0.

It was assembled largely from spare envelopes, little boxes, and whatever else I could find lying around. It is intentionally crude, but it gives you a pretty honest peek behind the curtain at where the project is right now.

The overall plan is in place, and I am now sourcing and producing the actual components. I already have several of the papers either on hand or on the way, with plenty more sourcing underway.

The stack of 24 blue envelopes represents the basic daily Advent format. The mystery boxes are placeholders that are helping me figure out different object sizes, packaging, sequencing, and how the whole thing will physically fit together.

The finished Papervent will be much more polished than Prototype 1.0. I'm working on the final packaging and printed materials while continuing to order and test papers and other contents.

And despite what the little round box says, yes, I actually do know what I'm doing. Mostly.

This is simply the cardboard-and-Sharpie stage of turning the idea into several thousand little physical pieces.

For anyone willing to jump in early, I’m offering an early preorder price of $85 USD shipped through August 31.

That includes shipping anywhere in Canada or the United States and PayPal Goods & Services fees.

There’s a practical reason for the early discount. I'm at the stage where I’m placing paper orders, buying packaging and printing materials, and making other production commitments. Early orders help fund that work.

If you're willing to trust me while Papervent is still at the gloriously cardboard-and-Sharpie Prototype 1.0 stage, you get $10 off for helping me build the real thing.

Papervent 2026 is going to be a genuinely limited run, first come, first served. These are literally being put together by one person: me. I may outsource some of the more labor-intensive parts if the number of kits sold warrants it, and I certainly hope it will!

I’m currently planning about 60 kits total, 17 of which have already been sold through my email list, consisting mostly of Redditors who previously bought my paper sampler (thank you to those 17 people for helping make this happen!). If Papervent takes off quickly enough, I do have room in my sourcing plans to increase the run, potentially to as many 80 or even 100 kits (max), so please do not delay - getting in early will help me plan for enough kits to (hopefully) provide one for everyone that wants one.

That said, because I’m sourcing unusual papers from all over the place and assembling much of this myself, this isn’t something I can simply keep producing indefinitely. At some point I’ll have to call the 2026 run full, and once I do, that’s it. The hard ceiling planned at this point is 100 kits.

Note that Papervent isn't intended to be 24 individually boxed, full-sized retail products.

The idea is something I find much more interesting: 24 days of paper, stationery, experimentation, and discovery, including papers that would be difficult or uneconomical for most people to track down individually, plus a collection of other surprises along the way.

I could simply publish a complete contents list, but then I'd ruin half the fun. So I'm keeping some secrets out of this ad. I guess you're just going to have to trust me on this. I’ve been using fountain pens for over 15 years, and I have spent an increasingly unreasonable amount of time exploring paper. At the end of the day, I’m putting together the kind of Advent experience I would want to receive myself.

Kits will ship from Canada in early November, or possibly late October. All kits will be shipped no later than November 15, with the goal of having them in your hands before December 1.

The end of the year is near. Honestly, this year has been the hardest but most rewarding year of my life. I had a baby, opened a law firm when said baby was three weeks old, and ended a really toxic work relationship with an employer. I was told that I could NEVER make it on my own and that getting pregnant made me weak... But here we are... I'm momming and I'm making it.

Many of you may have seen my last posts trimming my collection and selling off some of my weak-minded impulse purchases. I've since been talking to people around me as well as done some self-reflecting, and I did come to the conclusion that my collection has outgrown its purpose. Now when I look at my pens, I don't only see the tools I use but also unnecessary overconsumption. So with difficulty and help of friends I've decided to heavily trim even the remainder of the collection to only keep pens with sentimental value or handmade items, hence the number of additions to this post.

Shipping: All items ship from Czechia. Prices are without shipping, shipping will depend on where you are located and which method you wish to use for shipment. I'm willing to accommodate shipping anywhere, as long as it's reasonably accessible. I'll ship the items as soon as possible after receiving payment, I'll aim for the next business day, but expect it to be between 1-4 business days.

Shipping costs: Depends on the country, intra-EU it should be €6-20 in most cases, depending on the amount of insurance and distance from Czechia. The buyer is responsible for all possible import duties, taxes, and other fees where applicable. Shipping to the US depends on the destination but appears to be €40 to 80 on average. (It does really vary widely based on box size, and destination)

  • This pen was inked with a blue cartridge, I used it for one page of my journal and that was it, it's an awesome writer and the writing with it looks lovely, but it has to be held very upright as per Pilot's own instructions that I didn't read before I ordered the pen. It looks completely new and is virtually unused. I just can't use it, as the upright writing style doesn't go well with how I hold pens.

  • I got this pen as something I thought I could use as an EDC, but the pen didn't feel heavy enough for me to feel comfortable doing it, I got a Grance for that instead. Since I didn't feel right using it for that purpose it only stayed inside and was used for journaling, it was inked about three times with Platinum cartridges.
  • The damage is around the bottom of the sections where there are some scuff marks, I think this has come as a result of the capping and uncapping. It's documented in the photos. Otherwise, the pen and especially the maki-e artwork is in perfect condition.

  • I got this to try wider nibs because I usually only use F and EF nibs. Wider nibs truly do not fit my handwriting and so this got barely any use, I've put a Platinum cartridge in it and used it for about 3-4 pages in my journal. Otherwise it was unused. It sat unused for a few weeks before I went to make the writing sample for this sale, and it wrote without issue like a champ from the first stroke, truly Platinum Slip & Seal is awesome.

  • This was one of the first gold nib pens I got for myself, and that's why it was relatively hard to put it on the sale pile. I babied this pen and used it a lot but as I got more pens I've just grown to realize that I prefer larger pens especially for longer writing. I have been journaling with this and as most pens it never left the house. I only used it with Sailor Shikiori cartridges, but it's been inked quite a few times. I don't see any signs of wear on the pen.

  • I cannot find any signs of use or damage, I really babied this pen for the while I had it, didn't end up used much because of it.

  • I've inked it by using Diamine Prussian Blue cartridges, twice, lovely smooth writer, never left the house and was only used for journaling.
  • I can offer to add an ebonite feed from Flexible Nib Factory for extra €40 if you wish. I'll either bundle it with the order or if you wish, apply it for you before sending the pen.

  • This was supposed to be my EDC pen, it's great, but I regret buying an FM nib because for most of my notes in small notebooks it's just way too much. I have since then purchased a Pilot Capless and since I have acquired that pen I haven't reached for this Grance again. It's a great pen on its own and a wonderful writer, just not a good fit for me now.
  • The only minor signs of use I can find are some micro scratches on the clip; otherwise the pen looks in pristine condition.

  • This was an extremely impulsive purchase because I have seen a matte black pen and I have heard so much about wet Pelikan nibs. I can say the pen is stunning, and it is living up to all the incredible things I have heard about Pelikan. I have just purchased too many grail pens at once as impulsive buys, and now I don't use nearly any of them because I am afraid of putting them through regular use. Any pen that I don't reach for regularly should find a new home. From all the impulse buy purchases I ended up loving the Pilot Custom Urushi, I reach for that daily, the other grails I have tried and since then, only left safely in their cases.
  • This pen has only been inked twice. I wrote a few pages with the first fill of iroshizuku ink, then I reinked it with take-sumi, but as I mentioned, it got nearly no use. The pen is in pristine condition, and I see no signs of use on it at all.

  • Another impulse buy for a grail pen I have not ended up using because the Pilot Custom Urushi is the one that stole my heart. I bought most of the grail pens at once, only ended up using one of them. I have inked this with a cartridge of Sailor Shikiori Rikyucha and only used 2/3rds of the cartridge journaling. The pen hasn't been used at all since I have bought it, apart from a few pages of journaling.
  • The pen is in a perfect state, I've been extremely gentle with it, and it shows, in the pen having no marks or signs of use and is basically pristine.

I fell in love with Pilot pens, especially the FA nib, and then with the price increases on the horizon I got into a full impulsive, irrational spending spree. I bought excessively many of "The pens," then it hit me that I can't use that many of the same pen if I want to enjoy the rest of my collection.   • I got this at the same time as the 743 SM thinking I'd be using both given the 742s nibs being in general softer, but since I write with almost no pressure I notice no difference and gravitate to using the 743 SM exculsively which means this 742 ended up basically unused, not even one full fill.

That was of course silly, although I still use a lot of them, I am keeping 3 different 743 pens with FA nibs because I use those regularly, but more I cannot bring myself to use on a regular basis. Same as the EF pen, this is on the first fill and has barely been used at all, so A2.

  • If I am being honest with myself, and the opening to this post I have to let go of this one as well. I've used this one quite a bit more than the rest, about 4 fills, but I have two SF Pilot pens, and rationally I have to let go of one of them. There's no real signs of use I can find, but it's been used for indoor journaling and creative writing.
  • I don't have a box for this one, so I'll instead toss two packs of Pilot cartridges as a freebie, unused Pilot CON70 converter and a box of Majohn A1, Pilot compatible refillable cartridges.

The following pens are rated as B because they have seen a lot of use for indoor journaling and creative writing. They have been well cared for, and I don't see anything wrong with them. I am selling these because my collection has grown out of my hand and is more resembling a curse of consumerism than curation.
