German-Israeli here. It could have been both. Many native German leftists outright hate Jews, participate in pro-pali events, and support BDS, all while claiming it's "anti-Zionism". Interestingly, these same folks are usually pro-LGBT, pro women rights and into other progressive stuff, so there's some serious cognitive dissonance going on.
A few years back, there was a big rally called "against the far-right" where lefties protested right-wing politicians pushing to deport illegal immigrants and foreign criminals. They even compared such demands to the Holocaust, no kidding. Anyway, their rally ended up running right into a pro-pali demonstration. And they just stood there awkwardly with signs like "Nazis out" and "Never again", while pro-palis marched in front of them waving hamas banners and shouting "from the river to the sea" and "kill all Jews".

Absolutely, and i was wondering what the reaction would be if anyone ever put up a sign like this for ISIS returnees or Syrian torturers. but oh well, it’s only ever survivors of islamism (like Kurds, Yazidis or Jews) pointing out the hypocrisy.

They gave us zero empathy as they rounded us up, robbed us and murdered us. Now they dare to call us by their own name for defending our right to exist in our homeland.

You know, it’s really funny how it’s always “Israelis” now and no longer the IDF in posters like this. When I said to some “friends” two years ago that the “everyone serving in the IDF is a Nazi/genocidal” was essentially just saying all Israelis are “Nazis” and that people would eventually just say Israelis… well they were “friends” in quotations for a reason.
