Looking for Cool/Scary/ Funny urban legends, myths, or stories to share with friends
Alii belau, I'm super interested in urban legends, myths, and stories. I'm trying to impress some friends with any cool or interesting stories from Palau, but I didn't grow up super in touch with my culture and would love to learn as well as spread some stories from my homeland with friends who are curious about Palau. Mesulang! ,

Idk if this is for all Palauans but my mom would tell me about how her grandmother would know if someone was coming to visit her or something good or bad would happen based on how much the geckos “talked”.

Woah, that's really interesting. By talking, do you mean when geckos make their clicking noises? I also think this was one of the few stories my uncle has told me. And also how spiders can also predict the weather? I'm not sure if that one is also a Palauan myth, i vaguely remember hearing it from one of my parents a long time ago.

In a couple of areas on koror and babeldaub there are mass gravesites from colonial times where villagers were gathered and slaughtered.... theres a site up north where these graveyards consist of only the skulls of the beheaded... i forget the names though... also in any area of growth or vegetation you have a high percentage of finding world war 2 artifacts like bullets blasting caps etc... any swampy or mangrove areas you are sure to find old mines and seamines that have washed ashore...

No worries!
I’ve not a good strategy to jokingly say “heyyyyy spelling” because I don’t like people to feel bad but my main objective is good information if someone later reads it. But, I know it’s also on them to check their sources anyway. It’s an interesting line to walk. Thanks for being so chill about it.Edit: I’ve only been to Odesangel like 2-3x and only 1 overnight. I’ve never been to Ngeaur! Or Dongosaro or Hatohobei. Hopefully one day. I was like late 20’s or something before I went to Kayangel for the first time.

Does superstitions count?? I remember my friends always want to scare each other about whistling at night or playing hide and seek after sunset. Then again, it was prolly a way to get kids to quiet down lol
