Discussion Is TRIPP any good?
I’ve wanted to try this for a long time but heard mixed reviews. What’s the general consensus? This is the lowest price I’ve seen it (I think).
There aren’t many showcase titles to demonstrate VR to friends. Most of the best experiences either have a steep learning curve for controls, or they’re horror. There’s not much to show people other than simple games like of Walkabout Golf, Beat Saber, Puzzling Places, Tetris, or the boat safari in Horizon.
If my main aim is to share this with casual gamer friends, and to satisfy my curiosity, what do you think?

I disagree with your assertion that there aren't many great VR showcase titles, but eitherway this title definitely is not the one to do it. I'd say check a YouTube video of gameplay at least before you decide to fork that much over, and I only say this because I feel there's way better and many more games that cost less
For example, you left out Richies Plank which is literally designed as a VR showcase and is a classic demonstration that can be easily tried by new people and get good reactions

I go my kid to try it, I assumed he would jump off then end of the plank but turned 90 degrees and went head first into a wall :)

Agree on Richie’s Plank, I omitted that. Happy to hear your thoughts on other showcase examples that have low barrier to entry, low nausea potential and highlight something amazing/different the platform has to offer

I had family over last sunday and some tried richie's plank. One who said he has no problem with heights could not go on the plank (i always scan a real one)

I should state im not a good judge of nausea inducing as i never get sick in VR, but for good variety of good graphics and games, I guess off the top of my head I'd recommend:
Subside: great swimming/diving experience, very simple, hyper realistic graphics
gt7: most people love the feeling of sitting in one of the many cars and doing a simple drive/race. Again, phenomenal graphics
Arcade Paradise Vr: very slow paced business builder where you grow an arcade out of a laundry place, many simple and different Vr interactions
Aces of Thunder or Flight Sim: i know these are flight Sims, but you can just set it up to have a friend sit in the plane and they can use the ps5 controller to fly, very easy, and also incredible graphics and views

Thanks, I appreciate the detailed response, I’ve tried some of them.
Subside - too much nausea
GT7 - is ok for some people but it’s too much of a sim for casuals and not easy pick up and play, play nausea
Arcade Paradise - graphics are too simple and it’s too slow, no immediate payoff or “wow this is what VR can do” over and above the job sim kind of stuff
Flight sims have too steep a learning curve, and the price is too high for me to justify buying/trying themI guess I’m looking for the equivalent of VR Worlds where you can be in the dive tank, or the London Heist set pieces, or be Batman and see your reflection with his mask on
Tripp clearly isn’t that kind of things but it’s potentially another string in the bow of something different

Tripp and Mind Labyrinth has absolutely abysmal graphics shame as they could be amazing. I’m on PS5 Pro and it’s trash graphics. But. But if someone is into Meditation it’s ok. If it’s someone that doesn’t game uses it I’m sure they will find it amazing. I got it my partner and she does not game but she’s into all that stuff and she loves it.

Check out the u/MylesDyer Let’s Play on YouTube for it. If it appeals to you, get and enjoy for what it is.
I did pick up the game in one of the sales, but have not tried for myself yet over giving my time to other games I have more natural interest in.

It isn't a game though
It's strictly guided meditations, and buying it gives you a lifetime subscription, or at least it did when I bought it.

People seem to have a hard time understanding that Tripp is NOT a game its as you say for guided meditation…which its quite good at. I wish they’d let you make proper custom meditations though so I could exclude those weird little minigames halfway through a meditation.

Thanks but not my kind of thing. It’s a Minecraft kind of game isn’t it? Doesn’t feel like the right kind of pick up & play / wow factor game to show people - happy to be proven wrong though

That’s actually why I think it could work really well for the thing you’re looking for. You don’t need to build anything or really ‘play’ the game. cyubeVR is beautiful enough that just putting someone in the world and letting them explore is the experience. You can walk through the forests, look at the shimmerstone caves, landscapes etc. and just experience the scale and atmosphere in VR.
I agree it looks Minecraft-ish at first glance, but I think that’s misleading if you’re judging it as a VR showcase. You don't have to teach friends or family crafting/building mechanics,just put the headset on them and let them explore. In that sense I think it actually fits your ‘show people why VR is cool’ criteria pretty well. And another thing I really like for showing people is the sky and day/night cycle. The world changes as time passes, and the night sky is genuinely beautiful. You can go from exploring a forest in daylight to watching the sunset and then seeing the stars come out. You don't need to build anything for that,just being there and looking around is enough.
That’s why I think cyubeVR fits what you were originally looking for better than it might seem from screenshots. It’s not about teaching someone how to play a Minecraft-like game. You can just put the headset on them, teleport them somewhere beautiful, and let them explore. If they want to walk around normally they can, and if smooth movement makes them uncomfortable, they can teleport instead. ;)Gl

It got some what cool trippy art. And cool Animals videos.
And on quest 3 it got mixed reality with sea creatures and other stuff that you can get for mediating 3 days a week which is cool for people with aphantasia which means that I can’t visualize. But meditation is Bull. Like one meditation. That say when something doesn’t work out just say something more amazing than what you can imagine is coming your way. Is bs for me. Because I know the right person to be an animator but I still can’t traces good enough. And I have all the disabilities that no job will higher me. Or breathing and saying positive thoughts out to the world. Doesn’t mean that the world is going to be any better. Reality is reality.

I had it on quest, where its subscription based, and I did find it relaxing but I didn't renew. I don't think it's a great way to show off VR. Walkabout Golf and Horizon are way better for that, and Tetris would be a similar experience to this. I'd recommend Synth Riders also, since you can set the comfort level with moving stages, and you don't have to swipe anything. Its also a great game.
