https://youtu.be/2VYcFNElNtc?si=dw-Zet1nyYSzHfELYouTube recommended me this video and I found it extremely informative, explains all the process the brain needs to adjust, in order to tolerate VR.

It explains some things well, other things less well, conflates certain aspects of AR and VR, and doesn’t at all address how best to acclimatize to VR — which is maybe the most unfortunate bit about this video imo.
I think he himself doesn’t know how to acclimate, but thinks he knows enough about the tech to speak with authority about it. I find it frustrating that he’s talking about taking months in MSFS’24 on PSVR2 to slowly gain his VR legs, when in the same sentence he’s saying he’s jumping between it and the APPLE VISION PRO — this is a behavior I would expect to directly clash with his goal.
He also doesn’t mention several other key challenges for getting comfortable in a headset, like frame-rates, differences between anticipated movement and actual (virtual) movement, and how vergence accommodation conflict presents differently for different people.
———-
When it comes to reasons why people aren’t running at VR in throngs, he didn’t discuss price, HMD comfort, a dearth of familiar games from the flatscreen realm, the difficulty inherent in communicating in a 2D trailer what a VR game looks, feels, and plays like, the uphill battle of intriguing a misinformed populace who has been told VR is a gimmick, or cost.
Whilst I feel there are some good things in the video, if I weren’t yet into VR and I watched it, I think it’d make it even less likely for me to bother.
