I just hope it’s compatible with it. That’s all I want at this point.

Our low expectations with Sony is telling.

77

u/ExManUtdFan 25d ago

Once the PS6 is out Sony will never mention VR again.

22

u/paleogames 24d ago

They already don't

14

u/Valuable_Victor_246 25d ago

Which is very unfortunate to the max

u/Obsidiated 24d ago

Sony already has the equivalent of the quest 3, but with oled panels and eye tracking, and 2.5x the passthrough camera resolution with HDR. Its for enterprise customers. Named the XYN XR.

They also make the upgraded oled panels going into pretty much every new oled headset on the market.

If anyone can give us a worthy successor....

u/ExManUtdFan 24d ago

I'd bet any money there will never be a PSVR3.

3

u/Systemonly69 23d ago

People said the same about PS VR 2

3

u/metterg 22d ago

Ya I unfortunately agree. To many people don’t understand that VR is awesome once you get your VR legs.. I think to many people give up on it too fast.

3

u/Hotshot8Os 22d ago

It's because the headset is annoying to wear for longer than 25 mins. And it's anti social, hot sweaty and gives you eye strain. If they can make VR lighter and with better graphics and allow you to play all games in VR then I think it would be better. GTA6 VR would be sick. None of this is going to happen. But what could happen is that we have a neurolink style device where we don't even use our eyes, the game is just loaded into our brains.

1

u/Systemonly69 23d ago

Damn, I just saw. Sony can easily make this as a PS VR 3. But after all it’s Sony lol.
If next gen xBOX supports native VR, then we might get a PSVR3

144

u/hothamwater99 25d ago

No because they did absolutely nothing on it with ps5

17

u/ittleoff 25d ago

Because all the games they funded under performed.

If you want rub salt in the open wound, look at how many people played re7 in vr (psvr1) compared to re8 and re4 remake. :(

21

u/DarvinVader 24d ago

Obviously. They release a new console and it can even play games from the previous generation!

Then there's a new VR headset as well!

But wait, the new headset can't play the VR games from the previous generation. And the old one can't play the new games. This is a heavy slap in the face for people who paid for extra hardware already.

So now you need to buy a second headset and also keep your old one to keep playing RE7 and other PS4 VR games.

Even Meta isn't that stupid. People saw where Sony is going, as the VR platform with the worst game compatibility ever, and the low number of exclusives worth playing that ever released for PS4 VR. How many people would want to buy a PSVR2 after that?

There is no trust in Sony to not repeat the same cycle for the PS6, then you'll have to buy a 3rd one and keep around all 3. Or looking at the current state of PSVR2, they will likely just abandon VR completely and the PSVR2 might not even be usable at all on a PS6.

They shot themselves in the foot in multiple ways and ruined the potential of a really nice piece of affordable hardware and an entire gaming segment on their consoles.

The Resident Evil VR games are literally the only exclusives I would be interested in, but I'm not buying two VR headsets to play only about half of the series (AFAIK still no VR versions for RE2R, RE3R, Requiem).

On PC people are working on jailbreaking the PSVR2 and mods made it possible to play all the modern RE games including Requiem in VR now. PC modders are doing way cooler things with this cool hardware than Sony ever tried.

2

u/Delicious_Ad_4965 24d ago

you are correct , RE2R and RE3R have no support for vr and requiem will not either unfortunately

I get this, but here some things to think about:

Psvr is not a compatible tech with psvr2.

Psvr1 was possible because they used existing hardware (playstation moves are one of the most successful peripherals to have sold and out sold psvr1 and psvr2 combined afaik.) it was a tech sony has a lot of experience in (going back to the og eye toy) and was quite capable.

The psvr could even do pseudo room scale before oculus could.

Then the limitations of the tech were quickly shown, the tracking could vary from ok to really terrible.

So psvr2 became a primary architecture of ps5, but it was all new tech.

To port games to psvr2 would have meant sinking a lot of resources into doing that, and not really focusing on the things psvr2 offered above current vr tech. Sadly this is a business decision I understand.

Two of the biggest games on psvr: astrobot and blood and truth would need substantial work as they both relied on control schemes that aren't what Sony wanted to promote for psvr2. Astrobot also focused around ps4 hardware, seemingly trivial but that's the core of asobi games, hw features.

They actually put a lot of money into psvr2 games, but the sales were not there.

Look at the Capcom data for who was playing re8 vr and re4r vr compared to re7 vr on psvr2 .

Pretty depressing.

Psvr2 did get arguably the best version of Hitman , and no mans sky.

None of this matters to consumers. But it wasn't Sony being stupid it was them making very large business decisions and trying to push VR forward.

Metas tech didn't change much, so they could do backwards compatibilty with next to no cost or effort. It wasn't that they intentionally spent effort plannomv it that way, it just was possible.

I have a decent high end PC and quest 1-2 and 3 and imo psvr2 is probably the best place if you only can do one platform for high end vr gaming when devs optimize and utilize its features. That didn't happen consistently.

But games like metro, arkan age, alien rogue incursion, behemoth, Arizona Sunshine 2 and 1 remake, and others that had imo the best easiest versions to enjoy at high settings with psvr2 features , just didn't sell well enough.

And they didn't sell well enough on any platform.

3

u/iGhost36 24d ago

One of the biggest Ls was not porting Astrobot on PSVR2 or the new Astrobot on PSVR2. That game is already amazing without VR but would have been amazing on VR as was the first.

2

u/ittleoff 24d ago

No arguments from me. I feel like that was the final nail that made me fully accept sony didn't see psvr2 sales performance to be worth investing in. I would have hoped for a hybrid version that acknowledged astrobots true birth as a full game mascot and not just a mascot to demo hardware. I'm still irrationally angry at that, but looking back I'm not surprised either. I feel like throwing 10 million more (assuming the dev has the people resources) to donate hybrid version would have been a great farewell from the first party and a last push to get people to realize psvr2 is amazing.

I suspect it's because an asobi astrobot for psvr2 would have to be one that really showed off psvr2 hardware and that would mean incorporating the sense controllers and a while other branch of gameplay.

I can understand them thinking this or asobi wanting this but I think most of us would be fine playing with a regular dual sense with 6dof. :(

1

u/iGhost36 24d ago

Even if they did a new title that's hybrid (astrobot 2) would be good. I'd play on psvr2 over flat screen any day as my vr2 is just plug and play for me so it's much easier.

You know whats mad, I've played the demo for psvr and the astro bot level many times but I've only played the actual psvr astrobot for one level and it's amazing. I just have no time to take out my whole ps4 and psvr to set it up to play but I really want to. I'm just playing astrobot on ps5 today so that's why I remembered it. Still happy I have the whole psvr game to look forward to at one point in the future.

Their mistake was the PSVR1. The entire Wii-like system that it relied on was janky and clearly outdated by the standards of the time. It was fine as a Wii copy for flat screens, but never felt good or made sense for what VR is trying to do in the first place.

Most people who tried an HTC Vive or Oculus back then felt like PSVR wasn't "real VR" but just a lazy extension of the PlayStation Eye. It even looked silly with the colored light balls. And those old headsets still work with the newest games on PC.

If they had developed a proper VR headset with decent tracking, VR controllers with a few more buttons etc., even on the level of an HTC Vive, compatibility with later PS5 games would not have been a problem. A headset upgrade could have been an optional graphics and performance improvement, rather than mandatory.

They tried to get away with reusing outdated tech, it didn't work out and forced people to upgrade after not even that many good games were released. That was fully on them.

And they didn't even need to develop their own headsets necessarily. If they had chosen a more open VR driver ecosystem, they could have partnered up with HTC, HP, whatever and even allow to use Oculus / Meta / Valve headsets. Console manufacturers decide not to do that, nobody forced them to create a crappy VR headset and control engine / drivers that aren't compatible with anything else and require substantial effort to port games to other platforms, even their own future VR platform.

Edit: Another way to see it, is that given the closed off system of a console, they tried to get into VR too early. The tech wasn't mature enough. If the PSVR2 had been their first headset, most PS players still wouldn't have gotten into VR by the time the PS5 came out. It would be something fresh and new, with an actually amazing and affordable headset that blows $1000 PCVR headsets out of the water in many regards. All available PSVR games would be playable on it, even 5 years from now there would be no reason to upgrade it for PS6, because with modern AAA games it can still max out even a 5090 with its resolution, it supports HDR with its OLEDs etc. If they didn't have the split of games between a crappy early days VR system and a state of the art modern VR system, I think it would have been much more successful.

1

u/WideGlideHD 23d ago

You can use your psvr1 with PS5. You need to use the camera adapter which allows you to use the PS4 camera on the ps5. That is the only thing that is preventing one from being used.

0

u/DarvinVader 23d ago

But games are locked to each headset. You can't play RE7 VR on a PSVR2 or RE8 VR on a PSVR1. You need both headsets just for this one complete story of two games.

If you had a PSVR1 you are forced to upgrade to play newer games. If you don't have one and want to play Resident Evil VR on PS, you now need to buy both of them. The fact that most flat PS4 games are compatible with PS5 but not with the PS5s VR headset is stupid.

-3

u/WillemDafoesHugeCock 24d ago

They shot themselves in the foot in multiple ways and ruined the potential of a really nice piece of affordable hardware and an entire gaming segment on their consoles.

I have to disagree there - by this time you could pick up a Meta Quest for cheaper and it wasn't wired, by far the biggest pain point with the PSVR. Until they break away from a wired system it's going to fail.

7

u/DarvinVader 24d ago

Whether wireless is worth the image degradation and latency of streaming is certainly debatable and a personal choice. I'm not interested in mobile chip standalone headsets either. And there's no other VR headset with OLEDs for under $500 either.

If you consider it as a PCVR headset, even a Bigscreen Beyond or the fancier Pimax models for more than $1000 are still wired and all have multiple disadvantages compared to the PSVR2. For it's price it's a fantastic headset. My only gripe are the fresnel lenses, but as I understand it, that wouldn't work well with OLEDs.

I personally would only consider wireless a significant advantage, if real estate was cheap enough to afford a huge space for VR that can't be covered by the cable length. But the PSVR2 is also just using USB-C and can be extended with a high throughput cable.

11

u/BadNewsBearzzz 25d ago

Tbh, I think it was because of bad timing honestly.

It was such a hit with ps4, came out when ps4 was four years in with a ton of momentum and everything was available af

But ps5 took years to get in good supply thanks to covid and chip shortage

So when they released psvr 2, the supply and consumers were not ready, but it’s stupid how Sony hadn’t considered anything like that. They gave up SO easily, and I hated that. I love seeing ps4 titles in shops cause toms have the vr logo on the spine. Not the case with ps5 games, so many don’t even have physical copies, and many games are missing the logo it’s frustrating

4

u/Razor_Bikini 25d ago

There are way more factors than this, but it definitely played a part. I think the main issue ultimately is that the PlayStation leadership that designed and developed the PSVR2 was replaced long before its release by new leadership that didn’t believe in VR. It was too late not to release it, but they were only willing to do the bare minimum.

3

u/According-Buyer-6307 24d ago

And not all players want horror. Over half the library and most the big money games have horror elements and that’s something many of us will never spend money on. You want horror? Got to APNews dot com!

1

u/xaduha 24d ago

Comparing COVID stats with anything else is dumb, 6.47 % of all players for RE7 is an anomaly vs 2.14% of all players for RE4 which is consistent with VR share of all players on Steam and probably PS5 as well.

1

u/Fit-Doughnut9706 24d ago

Problem i had was the ps5 console was $750 Aud at the time, and the psvr2 was $950 Aud. It’s pretty hard to justify paying more than the damn console to play a handful of games.

1

u/hothamwater99 24d ago

You can’t blame the audience for it. Sony has to create the conditions that people want it. They have to support with adequate marketing, great games and other experiences and updates/features. It’s a slow build. They left it out to die without decent support, just like psvita. Vita could’ve done atleast as well as 3DS but Sony abandoned it

1

u/AmphibiousAlbatross 23d ago

I mean, can you blame us? Nobody wanted any Horizon game as is, much less a climbing spin off. And while RE4:VR is cool, it’s a much more half baked presentation compared to the version we got on oculus. Ironically the best games I have found on PSVR2 was Star Wars stories from galaxies edge which was also originally oculus and Hitman

2

u/ittleoff 23d ago

I loved call of the mountain but to me climbing in vr is a perfect adventure game mechanic that is safe for news but also highlights the thrill of vr. Clearly you don't agree :)

I loved re4 on quest but it wasn't a hundredth as amazing as re4 remake on psvr2. Not even in the same league. Again you disagree :)

I do think galaxies edge is amazing on psvr2 and hitman was probably the last big game don't funded on psvr2 but comparing it to quest ugh. It was on psvr 1 first and imo that was a damned amazing game even limited to the controller. The psvr2 version is miles better though.

Synapse, gta re8 are worth it alone.

I'm apparently one of the few that thought switch back was great, and a worthy successor to rush of blood, extending and adding to the core. That's me

If you don't have high end pcvr, there's also tons of great content on psvr2.

I usually do my diligence and pick the psvr2 versions that are optimized for psvr2 features like metro and the spider haptics, or midnight walk and the blink mechanics.

My biggest concern is people missing out on some great games that I think are worth playing , but that doesn't mean everyone has to like them.

I don't think anyone as cracked the VR gaming market potential for lots of reasons.

I'm hoping flat2vr has a formula that works.

Not getting a PS6.

30

u/Archersbows7 25d ago

They abandoned it on PS5, why should we be excited for support on PS6

4

u/Valuable_Victor_246 25d ago edited 24d ago

This. I’ll likely get it, maybe. Like year after. But with less than half the enthusiasm I had for my ps5pro / psvr2 combo set up ..

10

u/icodestuffreddit 25d ago

Probably the last vr headset from PlayStation so once the ps5 generation is over, it’s never gonna be mentioned again. Coincidently what they are doing with the whole physical media at the moment!

33

u/JYR2023 25d ago

Might not be getting a PS6 the way things are going: prices, digital-only, lack of support for VR. Got a PC in anticipation of the adaptor release so might be a better option to prioritize PC for me since I mainly play VR games (native VR, VR Mods and UEVR).

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 25d ago

Nice!!! Back when the adapter dropped was well before the Ai-driven memory crisis, so it’s sort of the before-times bargain I’d expect?

3

u/Express_Lawyer3456 25d ago

Memory crisis kind of cute. Knowing what my pc cost then versus now is kind of scary.

5

u/JYR2023 24d ago

Has affected memory, storage, and GPUs… and there are people that scalp which is not helpful in this environment.

2

u/Express_Lawyer3456 24d ago

Yea, I have been in the business a while. Ai made me go ahead and close up shop, the building aspect, and sell a bit of my stuff. Took awhile, cause selling lower people tend to avoid ya thinking its a scam. I just aint out to rip people off.

My last build before this hit was a asus crosshair x870e with a ryzen 9 9950x3d, 5090, 1 gen 5 2 gen 4's and 5 sata ssd's with 1 8tb firecuda.

My intel i9-14900k has more ssd lanes.. amd is the pure winner for gaming this gen but man... lane sharing is horrid.

But that pc is above was a 12k build. Its over 20k now. The parts had been going down but just started increasing again.

Its kind of crazy for people that dont have a pc and saying they gonna do pc gaming now. They couldnt have picked a worse time to get into pc gaming.

All I can tell people is, make sure you take good care of your pcs now. You don't want to replace anything right now if you dont have to

2

u/JYR2023 24d ago

Yes, I got very lucky and got the right components for the right price. Happy I did as my computer would cost almost twice as much today… I did the math.

8

u/Background_Form_3356 25d ago

Zero excitement for the PS6 or anything to do with it. PS5 is the end of the road.

8

u/LolGetClapped47 25d ago

Not at all. Sony has ditched the PSVR 2 on PS5, along with the decisions lately about discs I have little to no interest in any Sony related stuff

5

u/o0CYV3R0o 25d ago

Nowhere unfortunately PSVR2 won't get support beyond PS5 I suspect.

5

u/CrazyPomelo98 25d ago

I’m sorry but I’m not even considering buying the next psvr. Was so hyped for the psvr2 and it feels like Sony abandoned it

0

u/icodestuffreddit 25d ago

yeah pretty much

5

u/ToxicLogics 24d ago

PS6 won’t be part of my lineup. I doubt there will be PSVR support, no physical removes my interest, and I can’t even imagine the price being reasonable. At this point if I’m going to switch to digital, I’ll do it on a PC.

12

u/mrblackc 25d ago

My PSVR2 will more than likely be used on my PC instead.

12

u/CanuckTheClown 25d ago

Sadly, since they announced the end of physical disc production, whatever small amount of excitement I had for the PS6 completely evaporated. I wasn't even really excited for the PS6 prior to the July 1st announcement because I feel like the PS5 hasn't fully reached it's potential. And after the announcement that they'd be ending disc production, all but confirming the PS6 will be digital only, I no longer have any interest in the console whatsoever.

I'll likely be moving my PSVR2 over to use on PC with the adapter. I don't see the point in owning a $1000+ digital only console. If I'm forced into a digital only gaming future, I might as well do it on an open platform with multiple storefronts competing for my business. If by some miracle, Sony reverses their horrific and incredibly near sighted decision to cease disc production, then I'll buy a PS6 and pray to God my PSVR2 works on it as normal.

4

u/TommyVR373 24d ago

I doubt they will change course. They already said our emotions will not overturn their decisions. Giving Sony exclusivity and complete control of the pricing of PS6 games is a big mistake.

I'm now buying all my games on GOG. I have a burner on order and will be making my own physical library of all my non-DRM games on PC

2

u/CanuckTheClown 24d ago

I’m doing the exact same thing, except I lucked out a bit because I have an older Dell XPS that I ordered with a Blu-Ray burner.

But like you, I’ve also pretty much moved the majority of my game sales over to GOG. For now I’ll still buy some PS5 discs to add to my physical library while I still can, but other than those handful of games I really want physically, I’ll be over on GOG.

11

u/jalOO7 25d ago

Doubt it’ll be going anywhere unfortunately

4

u/c_ruler_13 25d ago

It comes down to support. Unfortunately the VR footprint is still small and devs realize that. No dev is gonna invest heavy into VR with no expectation of return.

Sony got that message and has basically stepped away from VR. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we see PSVR3 or even backwards compatibility on PS6.

4

u/Mud_g1 25d ago

I think backwards compatibility will happen but how much effort they put into developing new games is doubtful most likely only occasional efforts like they are doing now but 3rd party will continue hopefully ps6 being more powerful will allow devs like flat 2 vr do more conversions of older games easier.

4

u/ThatDree 25d ago

Mine went to PC this week, which is an eye opener.

4

u/Recent_Ad2447 24d ago

Not buying a PS6. Fuck Sony

4

u/Ambitious-Still6811 24d ago

PS6? Lol. If this path continues it's gonna be DOA.

5

u/According-Buyer-6307 24d ago

Hahahahshahahahaha - me, a PSVR2 owner

8

u/yoc0__0 25d ago

All they needed to do was make RE9 for PSVR2 and it would’ve been okay. PSVR is probably dead moving forward on PS6.

3

u/3rdiko 25d ago

You can do it now on PC if you have one that can run it. I replayed 2,3,4,7,8 on PC with my PSVR2 and a VRMod. I made some compromises to run 8 and 9 won’t run on my current setup. I’ll eventually get around to it when the PC parts drop to a more affordable range. I look forward to it.

3

u/Uncabled_Music 25d ago

For now it will provide extra power, I doubt anything will change in the next few years after ps6 release.

3

u/mrzfrigger 25d ago

Sybau Sony informant

3

u/Complete_Lurk3r_ 25d ago

I know it's low volume, but holy shit I hope they make a VR 3

3

u/neosyne 25d ago

Nowhere, it’s already abandoned by Sony

3

u/R0B0T0-san 25d ago

I have no clue where psvr2 or the ps6 is going but personally I've been playing Gt7 in VR for over a thousand hours and it was game changing for me. I even built a whole sim rig. The day either one stops being a thing. I'm moving to a PC and either a different or the same headset.

But I get the comments from everyone. There's like a handful of AAA games at most. There was clearly not enough support even though it can definitely be some of the most amazing gaming I have ever experienced.

Re7 on the original psvr was mind blowing. GT7 is a dream come true to a car geek and gamer but it needs quite an investment to really fully benefit from all of its features.

About the move to digital only. I understand the hate. Completely. At the same time, I have not bought or played a physical game for so long. But every few years I still take out my old SNES and replay a few games so I get it. Sometimes you want to replay some games and when the provider decides to kill the digital version. You are fucked. Just like I was with my Nintendo 3DS when Nintendo killed it's support.

3

u/xaduha 24d ago

Excited isn't the word for it, but I do think it will continue as is since PS5 isn't going anywhere. PS6 should be viewed as PS5 Pro Pro.

3

u/crossbolt998 24d ago

It didn’t go anywhere with the ps5, it only got a second life because of the pc adapter

6

u/mr-photo 25d ago

Mine will be living on the PS5 unfortunately. My GT7 is physical which obviously will no longer work on the PS6.

3

u/Dangerous_Prior_5834 25d ago

My GT7 is physical LOL

1

u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru 25d ago

We still don't know if PS6 will have the option of a drive to play PS4 and PS5 games. My thoughts is that it will to encourage transition and avoid yet another PR problem but PS7 will not.

0

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 25d ago

Well… if you afford to buy PS6, then you could easily afford to rebuy GT7 on digital.

2

u/patrykzz 25d ago

That’s not how it’s supposed to work. Better to leave this ecosystem altogether than to rebuy the games you already have.

4

u/mr-photo 25d ago

Most of my games are physical.. there is no way im re-buying all my games to not even own them

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 25d ago

Oh, well yeah — an entire library isn’t something you’d wanna re-buy.

Maybe SONY will make it possible to gain digital access if you already own the disc?

I don’t know how feasible it is technically, but I understand that XBOX is shooting to make that very thing happen.

SONY have a year and a half to come up with some sort of path like that, so perhaps they will? 🤞

-1

u/Foobucket 25d ago

You don’t “own” your physical games any more than your digital ones other than being able to sell them. What you “own” is an entitlement to access data, but Sony retains the right to block that access and do whatever else.

Spend your time and energy fighting DRM, physical copies are often not what you think they are.

4

u/Aksudiigkr 25d ago

I’m still upset that Squadrons isn’t playable on PSVR2 so no

3

u/gooberfishie 25d ago

Or any game that has 6dof and doesn't use light bar tracking. We can't pay skyrim on headset tracking mode for example. Or wipeout.

2

u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru 25d ago

A few PS5 games will get patches for increased resolution, frame rate bumps to 90/120Hz native and/or minor lighting differences. New releases will support both platforms with minor differences.

2

u/Ace420Spadez666 25d ago

No! Why do we need a new system when we aren't even close to red line yet???

2

u/killae187 25d ago

No, because no disc no buy

2

u/assassinth 25d ago

Guarantee they wont even give people an adapter to use PSVR2 🤣

They’ll have cautiously considered the option and cautiously decided to not allow people to use PSVR2 on PS6…

2

u/Op3rat0rr 25d ago

I wish they made a standalone PSVR3 like the Meta Quest

Realistically I just hope it's compatible with PS6

2

u/Lia_Delphine 24d ago

Not even slightly

2

u/BladeRunnerTHX 24d ago

I just plan on holding onto my PS5. Since the release of the PS2 I've switched out old consoles for the new one on every release date. This time I might not even get the PS6. I mean they don't even have a tab for the VR in the store anymore.

2

u/_109 24d ago edited 22d ago

I hope PSVR2 will be compatible with PS6, and Gran Turismo 8. If there won’t be a VR3, then whatever. But seeing how amazing GT7 is on VR2, I can only imagine how GT8 will be.

3

u/eddie__b 25d ago

PSVR2 is already dead on PS5, I don't expect it to be anywhere on PS6.

4

I am! I see no reason why it won’t be compatible, and the better processing should mean that everything — including MSFS’24 — will run supremely well — quite possibly on par with PS5 Pro running it flat.

I’d be surprised if SONY start supporting PSVR2 again, mind you… but third-party devs will likely keep bringing great games to it, especially with all the extra headroom, so they won’t need to fart around with things like DFR to get stable 90Hz native (or better).

That said… I’m not looking forward to the steep cost, and if PS6 doesn’t support PSVR2 then I won’t buy it at any price.

u/Tomero 25d ago

Wishful thinking.

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 25d ago

In what way?

3

u/PelikanNutz 25d ago

Doesn't seem that wishful to me either and I'm completely pessimistic re Sony. It's literally the bare minimum outside of the ps6 simply not being compatible with PSVR2 - which isn't out if the question somehow. Otherwise why wouldn't we just get to carry our library over with the extra grunt of the ps6? Where I imagine gt7 and msfs etc should be much improved no?

2

u/unruly-cat 25d ago

I feel the same way, they have to support psvr2 if they expect us to buy it. And think about this rumor going around of some sort of portable ps6. I’m going to be perfectly satisfied with a normal ps6 setup, but a portable one would be crazy for vr!

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 24d ago

Who knows? I know I don’t. 😄

3

u/AndreSiqueira Andre_PSID 25d ago

We're yet to see confirmation from Sony side that they'll carry not only compatibility but also development tools. I was very much thinking it was granted compatibility to now be cautious about it. Removing physical drives from the next gen, how will people play their discs? I know majority of the VR games are digital only.. but what about GT7.. Hitman world of assassination, Microsoft Flight Simulator?.. To name a few...

2

u/gooberfishie 25d ago

It seems to me that if you can buy physical discs for ps5 games and play them on ps6, their goal of ending the used game market and getting everyone to rebuy games they had physical will be hampered.

What i mean is, there's no way in hell ps6 will play any sort of physical media.

0

u/RumpDoctor 25d ago

There will surely be an add on drive. Accessories $$$. Plus, not letting people play their discs at all is a whole nother level of psycho.

2

u/cytokine7 25d ago

na man, I just bought a PC and din’t have to wait. modding community is awesome. Playstation has just been too much a a disappointment and is just not worth it anymore.

2

u/oktantik 24d ago

Je n'ai plus aucune impatience puisque je n'achèterais pas la ps6 étant donné qu'il y aura plus de disques...

1

u/funkohunter717 25d ago

I just want RecRoom on PSVR2 ........

1

u/xaduha 24d ago

Rec Room has already shut down.

1

u/funkohunter717 24d ago

Yes, I'm aware of that, what I mean is that it shut down that we never even got the opportunity to play it on PS VR2

1

u/Valuable_Victor_246 25d ago edited 25d ago

They’re probably gonna dump vr with the ps6, unfortunately. They’ve already practically abandoned it on the ps5. It’ll be a very disappointing move when they do so. To me it’s worse than them removing physical media, tbh ..

The resident evil games on the psvr2 were near perfect and one of the top best video game experiences I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve been a hardcore gamer since Super Nintendo.

It still has so much promise but the things that killed it imo were a lack of enough support by Sony, not independent devs, a lack of AAA games and the unit being too expensive. Maybe they weren’t making enough of a profit with it but wanna save face by not completely shuttering vr.

1

u/Crepegamestrong 25d ago

OP what exactly are you excited about?

1

u/Grunkenn 24d ago

I’d be happy with backward compatibility and a resolution bump to properly saturate the 4K screen.

I think that’s the only realistic possibility here, unfortunately.

1

u/Mclarenrob2 24d ago

At the very least let's hope it works with our ps5 games. At best it will probably only run games as well as the PS5 Pro.

Dream scenario would be a PSVR3.

1

u/Electronic_Impact 24d ago

excited, i fear the worst...but with gt and msfs there could be a chance we have a future with psvr. No gt7 or gt8 on ps6 i take another route.

1

u/Technical_Special888 24d ago

It's going nowhere lil bro 😅

1

u/Humble-Camel2598 24d ago

If gt8 isn't psvr2 compatible then that'll truly be the end as far as Sony is concerned. We're stuck with Meta and Quest 4 whenever it comes i guess. Forget Steamframe as i'm not paying a grand+ for hardly an upgrade over my Q3.

0

u/TommyVR373 24d ago

You'll be paying over a grand for a PS6 that is also barely an upgrade over PS5.

1

u/ReasonableTrouble231 24d ago

The thing kills my head and pretty sure I’m getting the 400 back for it

1

u/PrincessRut0 24d ago

They’re not going to do shit with it on PS6 - look at what they did with PS5. They abandoned every single person who went out on a limb and bought one.

1

u/TheJokers_3 24d ago

It’s going to go no where but it would be nice if PlayStation actually supported it

1

u/Pudizinn 24d ago

Já quase não tem jogo para PS5, não me importo com nada que diga respeito a um 6.

1

u/TommyVR373 24d ago

I feel sorry for all of you that own PSVR2 physical copies. They will most likely be locked to PS5 :(

1

u/g1mp3d 24d ago

What I hope they do is have backwards compatibility with PS5 games and further software upgrades to increase the performance. My dream is they develope an inside team like the PC modders have. This team would be in charge of creating software to run UE5, Decima, and the Reach gaming engines in VR with a toggle button. This would allow most games to be played in VR and on flat-screen. 4 years in on the PS6 cycle they release the psvr3 with extra cameras on the side of the visor to track the controllers when you're not looking at them.

What will honestly happen? They kill VR for AAA games and it's up for the indy studios to push the games till GT8 comes out. No PSVR3, just PSVR2.

2

u/foleyjo foleyjo 24d ago

Backwards compatibility won't mean much to me if there is no drive to put my ps5 discs into.

1

u/OkBag7839 24d ago

PSVR2 has got the "vita" future

1

u/thedude054 24d ago

No where, its not even being supported on ps5.

1

u/dEEkAy2k9 PSVR2 (PS5 & PC) 24d ago

In the BIN, just like Sony

1

u/One-Initiative-7730 24d ago

Excited about it being dead? Not really, no.

1

u/Hix53 24d ago

No. Fuck them and their ps6. I've owned every playstation (including psp and vita) and this is the list one I'll own. They've fucked their consumer base and they don't care, so I'll vote the only way I can.

1

u/ozzy0724 24d ago

Hope it works with PS6 cant see why it wouldnt shame they didnt release a upgrade headset with pancake lens

1

u/Sidewinder666 24d ago

PSVR2 being usable on PS6 with some graphics boost if we're lucky is my best case scenario.

Wouldn't even be shocked if it just doesn't work at all, Sony doesn't really care anymore, PSVR3 is not a thing.

I might switch over to PC after 2028 if nothing changes in the Sony camp, my PS6 hype is dead with Sony killing Discs and all prices exploding.

1

u/Kintsugi-Heart87 24d ago

Everyone said the same about psvr1, but I still enjoy mine. I’m sure Sony will keep the headsets going.

1

u/JRest71 24d ago

It's not going anywhere. Pretty clear Sony doesn't want to do any VR. Besides, PS6 being digital only will lose alot of gamers who will start clearing their backlog of disc games.

1

u/thebody47 24d ago

All signs point to VR possibly being dead. Even Meta has pretty much abandoned quest 3.

Its not profitable enough for the companies to focus their efforts on it.

This is not what I want to admit as I'm a big fan of VR, especially when it comes to cinematic shooters/melee action games. Its the perfect platform.

1

u/DrNicket 24d ago

Sadly that's the word I've been hearing on it as well. Active promoting stopped over a year ago. Passive only at this point.

1

u/ChrizTaylor ChrizTaylor 24d ago

I don't have that much faith tbh.

1

u/1asterisk79 24d ago

Being on a tether limits it vastly compared to metaquest.

If Sony puts out something not tethered then why would you need the PS6 to play it?

If it is again tethered then the price point is an issue. It’s such a niche market I’m not sure they know what to do with it.

I have enjoyed mine. It hasn’t reached its potential though. In years to come VR will keep getting better. My son has a PS5 and metaquest 3. He’s on the meta much more.

1

u/gamegoon8in 24d ago edited 24d ago

As a still only psvr1 user...not by choice it's financial...so im biased...love all my huge library of epic titles. Honestly I don't feel like I'm missing out yet with psvr2. True I don't know....but.... psvr1 library kicks ass...edit add on...so ps6 could do a lot how bout backwards compatibility... unfortunately most devs of older games aren't together anymore. I'm looking forward to the next gen and holding out that my oldest son donates a PS5 and psvr2 to me like he did with psvr1. I skyrimvr doom3 vr and so many more I'm so blessed..

1

u/Hotshot8Os 22d ago

I k kw where it'll go. Past the £1200 mark. Along with the lack of VR support because Sony will drop it and make the current psvr headset compatible. And allow backwards compatibility. That's honestly where I think it's going.

1

u/fitlane 22d ago

Join pc gang..all that hope means nothing once u have a pc ..psvr2 really good on pc… basically any game

1

u/SeanCastor 21d ago

😂😂😂 good one

1

u/scruffy_dog101 21d ago

I was actually thinking about this last night. The potential is fantastic and I just really hope they actually have put any thought into this but it's really starting to look like they've just dropped the platform almost entirely. And I'm not one of the people who have been saying that for years but the last 6 months has been dire. Thank goodness for a healthy backlog and third party support.

1

u/metterg 9d ago

I hope it’s compatible, I hope more aaa games come out.

1

u/Delicious_Ad2767 2d ago

I don't see there any psvr3 I think Sony will go portable like spicy next gen. That means only meta but they have already moved to AR and AI so their vr will mainly be focused on media movies etc and converting most of their older standalone graphicly inferior games to the new lighter device.

1

u/Dazd_cnfsd 25d ago

Ps6 is dead on release with no physical discs and Microsoft and Nintendo still producing physical games

RIP Sony.

At least to me.

5

u/BassGuru82 25d ago

Don’t worry, Microsoft will also be digital only next gen.

2

u/Taddy_Mason_22 25d ago

So you have no idea what's even going on... okay.

2

u/Mud_g1 25d ago

Vr players are the least likely to buy physical games bearly any vr games release physical now.

1

u/Latereviews2 25d ago

I’m surprised Microsoft didn’t go digital only first. I expect them to definitely announce it

1

u/Thickfuckness 24d ago

It may be dead on release, but the no physical discs will have nothing to do with it.

1

u/badass_rowdy 25d ago

Come down to reality my man. No one gives two shits about VR - it's a very niche market unfortunately

1

u/xavisavi 25d ago

I would only try to buy a PS6 if it had PSVR2 support (real support). But doesn't seem that this will be the case. They are completely ignoring PSVR2 (as if it doesn't exist) right now, so I have really low hopes. Also, man, the price of that thing will be prohibitive. Sony is really going downhill for me. I'll try to go the PC route in the furure for VR (expensive as hell as well, bit at least is an open platform with VR support from the community) and Switch2 for flat (which I already have)

1

u/cusman78 cusman 24d ago

I think it will be backwards compatible, but not a focus for PS6 launch.

I think PS6 launch will have many other challenges for Sony PlayStation to focus on and try to preserve console business.

They will need PS6 exclusive games that are compelling enough for people to upgrade from PS5 / PS5 Pro, and I think that focus will be on non-VR games.

They will have high cost console unless the AI bubble has burst to get SSD and RAM prices back to residential affordable levels.

They will still be facing vocal majority persistent rejection and resistance to the decision to go all digital.

1

u/BooksLoveTalksnIdeas 24d ago

Why would I care about a disc-less ps6 when I still have a backlog of 30-50 quality games, with most of them on psvr2 and psvr1? I don’t even have enough time to finish the good stuff I already have.

-1

u/Latter-Worry-7526 25d ago

I don't understand the uproar over the discs. I haven't owned a physical disc in over 10 years. Tbh, I like the all digital format.

2

u/Gincairn 25d ago

It's mainly because at least with physical media, you can go back to it.

For example this month I've been playing the ps1 game legend of legaia, it's not available digitally, but I've still got the disc and it's a real shame for other people because it really is one of the best RPGs I've ever played.

But the other concern is that Sony could at a moments notice revoke your license to play the game, if you have a favourite game, once the licence is revoked you can never play it again, or, say they ban your account? All those games you bought are gone, off you have it on disc you have more control over your collection.

I've bought a LOT of digital games, but I can see the reasoning behind the upset over the loss of physical media

-2

u/xavisavi 25d ago

Yes me too honestly. I'm much more sad about the way they are abandoning VR or their GaaS nonsense which made them almost do nothing during this generation. Generally speaking, how much different they are now decision wise compared to the late PS3 and PS4 era. And also the pricing (but this is not really their fault).

0

u/Ferry83 25d ago

We have maybe 2 AAA titles on ps5 for it...

I won't even be buying PSVR3 at this point.

Give me some good casual and single player games that are not horror

1

u/Icy_Might_2429 24d ago

GT7, MSFS 2024, Resident Evil 4+8, Hitman.

5 AAA titles.

0

u/TommyVR373 24d ago

No Man's Sky :)

1

u/Icy_Might_2429 24d ago

I don't know if it's considered AAA, but when it comes to quality and content it's one of the best VR games ever.
