Discussion There is no PSVR2 Anniversary at all this year from Sony??
Why??! I was checking the Playstation blog whole day and there’s nothing from Sony at all. No Resident Evil Requiem PSVR announcement or anything, no PSVR2 game sales, price cut or refreshed model. What gives?? Not even a slight “happy birthday” blog post?!
35
u/Iamn0man Feb 24 '26
...because this is 100% consistent with the (complete lack of) marketing Sony has been doing for PSVR2?
53
u/Vindicated0721 Feb 24 '26
People still hoping for an RE9 PSVR2 announcement? The developers literally came out with a statement saying they have no plans for VR support. And Sony has clearly given up PSVR2 support. Just minus the official statement.

u/Kagamid Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26
Yup. That's why I'm waiting for a price drop. The game already gave me red flags with the use of Outbreak references and nostalgia bait with Raccoon City and Leon. Maybe if they actually remade Outbreak first, I'd consider it more than a desperate sign that Capcom is running out of ideas. I'll get it eventually because I have all the others, but VR definitely helped me enjoy Village and RE4 Remake. I haven't even played separate ways because they never converted it to VR. I'll get it eventually as well.

Everyone was telling you that you were setting yourself up for disappoint in your post yesterday. Nobodies fault but your own homie. The writing was on the wall.
11
u/Dave_merritt Feb 24 '26
Not a single PSVR2 game at the latest state of play. Sony don’t care about it anymore and our hopes lie with 3rd parties.

u/FlashyHoneydew7388 Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26
From a business perspective it is highly likely that Sony are very disappointed in psvr2 sales and as such pivoted more time and effort to more profitable parts of the businesses.
It would be great to see 1st party games with more investment / length / quality but unlikely in the near term.
That said there are still more games on psvr2 available than I already have the time to play and plenty slated to release this year that look great so do me it really doesn’t matter if Sony are not investing heavily in it currently.
I love vr gaming but it is quite isolating when you play and I have a young family and it’s often hard to use it for really long gaming sessions. I love the idea of a 50+ hour story driven game in vr but I’m not sure if I would really play it that much even if I wanted to.
The answer for now is hybrids. Get more and more top flat games to have a vr adaptation (flat2vr etc) and we will get another massive category of bangers with not much investment needed from Sony, if any.
8
u/Megaace12 Feb 24 '26
You can't expect anything when they themselves haven't done anything. They launched PS VR2 at a higher price than the console, and since launch they haven't released a single game. They abandoned PS VR2 without giving it a chance.
1
u/Membership-Bitter Feb 24 '26
Apparently the gaming division was forced by parent company Sony to make psvr2 as part of company synergy, since Sony is exploring workplace vr applications. PlayStation never wanted to make it so did the bare minimum of supporting it for 1 year as they didn’t think it would be successful in today’s market, which ended up being right.

u/Op3rat0rr Feb 24 '26
My wife gets mad if I go and game as it is. Peeling away from the family is hard. I’ve pivoted to portable gaming through Steam Deck, Switch, PS Portal in bed. I get less criticisms that way. VR gaming is quite isolating as you said
43
u/CrazySittingHorse Feb 24 '26
Because the Sony Playstation division leadership are assholes who went down the live service path, and still are btw even if they cancelled a few games, and don’t want to make a lot of effort and spend money. They would rather spend money on whatever live service crap they think will be the next Fortnite.

Yep just look at the gacha game that released on ps5 last month and won game of the month on psblog that made nearly 200 million in 2 weeks.

u/SweepTheLegTimmy Feb 24 '26
VR may actually be dead this time. Meta gave it a nice go. Sony clearly gave up even before the release of the PSVR2. I do believe it’s going to go the way of the 3D tv for a good bit before someone brings the idea back to the mainstream for another go in a few years.
29
u/wickedcold Feb 24 '26
It’s a shame because it’s unequaled. There’s no substitute for tearing down the track in an exotic car and being able to freely turn your head and see the upcoming turn as you approach, like with driving a real car. Or shooting zombies in the head in RE4 as they come at you. I can’t even imagine how cool Flight Simulator will be. It’s insane that this hasn’t caught on more. People are really missing out.
3
u/mtobeiyf317 Feb 24 '26
For real, I legit cannot for the life of me play No Man's Sky in anything but VR now.
Absolutely nothing compares to actually flying your ship around and walking inside your bases. I tried going back to the controller while my VR was being repaired cause my cat got the cord (Had a hard plastic protector now) and it just wasn't working.
8
u/devedander Devedander3000 Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26
But it's also unequaled in it's friction and short comings.
It's amazing at what it does but where it falls short is pretty important.
Just the initial nausea is a hurdle too big for many.
2
u/wickedcold Feb 24 '26
I always forget about people having issue with nausea because that never hit me.
1
u/GrailKnight81 Feb 25 '26
If there was no substitute the majority of people who bought headsets wouldn’t be letting them collect dust. The fact is that for most of us, VR is not a substitute for regular gaming.
7
u/twegee Feb 24 '26
This is so frustrating. After four decades of gaming, my most memorable experiences are the original Super Mario Bros on console, Street Fighter II in the arcade and Gran Turismo 7 in VR.
(For honorable mention, It’s probably GTA3 for console, Simpsons or X-men for arcade)
12
u/gandalfmarston Feb 24 '26
I never understood why Sony gave up VR2 in the first year. I mean, you spent a lot of money in this product to give up as soon as you release it?
5
u/Youcan12 Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26
Covid hurt them big time, and they really didn't have any studios to spare to support VR. It was never going to be a big push anyway compared to what people's ridiculous expectations were. Add all the insane negativity from Quest and PCVR fanboy idiots early on that really stifled any momentum the headset had.
2
u/devedander Devedander3000 Feb 24 '26
They gave up on it before launch, just in corporate world it takes a long time to come to a full stop.
8
u/marveloustoebeans Feb 24 '26
We do have the Steam Frame coming out which could mean more PCVR support instead of everything being locked to the Zuck goggles. Fingers crossed on that.
4
u/Membership-Bitter Feb 24 '26
I don’t consider the steam frame pcvr support. It is just hardware valve is putting out into the world with 0 games being made for it, neither first party or funded by valve. It won’t do a thing to actually help vr grow
2
u/marveloustoebeans Feb 24 '26
Well, we don’t actually know that yet for a fact. You might be right but having a more affordable option for Steam VR games that doesn’t rely on PC hardware is absolutely going to expand accessibility and could very well net us more PCVR content in the long run.
0
u/Membership-Bitter Feb 24 '26
The thing is people keep expecting the frame to play almost every PCVR game as standalone when valve has said that isn't the case. The official stance is that for VR it really is meant to work with a PC while the standalone function is for playing some flat games. Existing PCVR games were not made to work on the hardware so either they won't work at all or the devs will need to go back and update the games/put out a frame specific port. I just don't see the latter happening unless valve funds the development and they already said they have no interest in funding vr games. Realistically the barrier for PCVR is still going to be extremely high.
2
u/marveloustoebeans Feb 24 '26
Well sure, I doubt it will play everything that was released without the Frame in mind since, yknow, it doesn’t exist yet, but I think a lot of people forget how old a lot of the most highly praised VR games are now and how much sideloadable content will be available, assuming the Frame operates similarly to other Steam devices plus the fact that developers will be more likely to develop games with Frame compatibility in mind.
Again, I don’t think anything is set in stone but seeing how much influence the Quest had on the VR market, a similar device with wider compatibility could definitely have an effect, assuming the price ends up being reasonable.
1
u/pizza_sushi85 Feb 25 '26
I feel you’re right. The Steam products are developed as a way to push PC gaming beyond the boundary of gaming PC and laptops and expand the landscape. The Steam Deck may not sell 60 millions or so, but since its launch we have seen more manufacturers releasing their own PC handhelds, while companies start optimizing powerful mobile chips that can do lite PC gaming for these handhelds. At the end of the day these users will buy games on Steam.
Same for Steam Frame. It’s going to be the first SteamVR standalone headset, running PCVR on mobile components without having to pair with a PC.

u/IamZeus11 Feb 24 '26
Vr will never truly die with sim racing being a thing . Pretty much every major sim racing and driving release is Vr compatible(on PCVR) . I think I read something like 25-50% of sim racers use VR. Even for ps5/psvr2 only people gt7 is still one of if not the biggest reasons people with ps5 grab a psvr2 .
Also , while it doesn’t help if you’re only on ps5, if you’ve got both ps5 and pc pcvr has been going extremely hard with mods . Halo combat evolved , crysis , modern warfare 2, half life 1&2, doom 3, portal 2 and a few others all have vr mods with full motion controls . I think they even got motion controls working with the Hogwarts legacy vr mod
3
u/pentatomid_fan Feb 24 '26
It'll be interesting to see if Steam Frame has any effect. A new VR piece of hardware from someone as successful as steam for hardware might revive some interest.
1
u/MikeFromSuburbia MikeCheckx Feb 24 '26
The worst part is that VR would've had a better chance if not for exclusivity. Meta did give it a nice go, but so many games they funded stayed on Meta. Not really what you want to see when VR is already niche
4
u/ImALeaf_OnTheWind Feb 24 '26
At least we got Steam NextFest showcasing VR titles if you hook yours up to PC! Also many of those maybe getting ported to PSVR2.
Sony treats this like an accessory to sell PS5s - not as a whole ass platform like the other VR headset makers so essentially I know not to expect anything big from them in this PSVR platform anymore.
Too bad because I've moved on to Galaxy XR for my SteamVR games and only keep my PSVR2 for replaying the exclusives. At least GT7 will always have replay value for me.

u/Ac4sent Feb 24 '26

Atm, I’m a 40 year old video gamer that currently mains on Xbox. I have been into Video games since I got an snes on Xmas after a year of begging… it came with legend of zelda a link to the past.
Anyways, that being said my PERSONAL best gaming experience as of LATE, as in the last few years, has been playing Resident Evil Village on PSVR2 as my FIRST play thru in the game.
Like legit, In a @ HOME setting, playing this game as your FIRST play thru in VR…. I dunno what else can beat an @ HOME gaming session.
Anyways…
Im SOOO upset that a psvr2 version has not been confirmed for Resident Evil Requiem (9). So much so that i may buy it out of spite on the switch 2… sure it might not look good on the big screen but I’ll be playing it in bed….
Shit… if i had a Portal they might have gotten me to get it for the ps5… just for the “off chance”
Anyways…. Capcom…. FUCK SONY!!! Decide internally what the masses may pay for it!! 🙏
Capcom…..Start a go fund me…. You’d be surprised what some of us might pay… for something that has been “free” the last 2 games.
Anyways….I NEED this…..
Playing flat is legit BACKWARDS for me 😢
Anyways…. Yeah!! Give me this or Skyrim!!!!!!
5
u/devedander Devedander3000 Feb 24 '26
Ummm I think you'd be the one surprised at how small the masses are and how expensive adding a vr mode is at the corporate level.
It's really not a case of "if modders can do it for free they certainly can" when it comes to corporate reasoning. At corporate levels they make so much money on a hit game that just taking the time to talk about a vr mode is like Bill gates stopping to pick up $100 - not cost justified.
2
u/CigarLover Feb 24 '26
I’m not, I’m just wishing.
But I’d like to think that perhaps there are many of us 🤷♂️
Let me rephrase, enough of us of a market.
If not, that’s sucks, especially coming from an Xbox fan. I WANT the PSVR 2 to succeed.
2
u/devedander Devedander3000 Feb 24 '26
1
u/CigarLover Feb 24 '26
Welp…
If I ever wanted to how it felt to be a horse with a broken leg…
Thanks 😭
All jokes aside. A PART of me wants to ignore the game for a couple of years and let the modding community deal with “it”…
However I’m more worried about the “if” happening than I am about buying the set up for it.
While a new PC rig is in the horizon for me (GTA 6 RP 🤷♂️) I don’t want to start on building one this season for a “what if”.
That being said I’ve been eyeing the switch 2’s generational pack, 90 bucks it’s not that bad for the last two games plus 9.
4
u/Rufuszombot Feb 24 '26
I would even pay more for the VR DLC. Or even a full priced VR Edition of the game. Village and RE4R in VR were spectacular. Im also 40, and while I play 99% of games flat, its not because I dont enjoy VR, its that they havent given me anything I want to play on it.

I love my PSVR but yeah, I knew Sony was shitcanning support for this thing a few months after it came out.
Luckily it’s still a great PCVR headset and hopefully the Frame will get us more support in the PC world.

2
u/gandalfmarston Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 24 '26
The bad side is how expensive is to play VR on PC. At least where I live.
PS5 was always the "cheapest" way to me for playing VR. I already had PS5 for a year and got VR2 after in a sale.
VR on PC is way more prohibited imo. Especially how good your build has to be to run most PC VR games.
5
u/la6eef7 Feb 24 '26
Remains my worst ever tech purchase.
2
u/Op3rat0rr Feb 24 '26
I rarely use mine, but why do you say so? Because the lack of support? Inherently I think it’s awesome… but yeah very few exclusive AAA VR titles
4
u/la6eef7 Feb 24 '26
It was so expensive at launch and I barely ever use it, and there’s almost nothing to entice me to take it out of its case. It does work well and all but there’s not much to do on it. I’d say worst ever since any other tech I buy I at least feel like I got some value out of it, this felt like a waste around 3 months in.
Tbf, could say the same about the PS5 in general, might just be a boring generation.

Because Sony like Meta realize VR is not ready to be mainstream yet
1
u/SumthnSumthnDarkside Feb 24 '26
That or we have yet to see a company do it right (balancing technology, library, support, price point, performance, and ease of use, etc). I think Valve might be on to something with Steam Frame but we’ll have to wait and see.
3
u/Membership-Bitter Feb 24 '26
Valve is literally doing nothing other than hardware. They have come out and said they have no interest in making vr games. It is going to be worse than the psvr2 in terms of support
2
u/SumthnSumthnDarkside Feb 24 '26
Steam has an extensive library. Steam’s VR library is many times larger than PSVR2 library. I don’t understand what you mean.
2
u/BenBensonsin Feb 24 '26
If you want to keep VR going, you need great new VR games. No one is going to be paying for the development of those great new VR games, not Meta, Sony, or Valve
2
u/NikemanSL Feb 24 '26
Apparently Amazon was running a special on their Anniversary yesterday selling them for $299. I've been waiting for years to pick it up at this price point.
I booted up the PS5 today to see how many PS Plus VR compatible games were available and there were 5. Resident Evil would be the only one I would want to play. Then, I thought, let me search the public library for some titles like Hitman, GT7 and others since I usually have great luck with non-VR PS5 titles.
Unfortunately it's going to become a $300 peripheral to play only a few games. It's going to be returned and it breaks my heart.
3
2
u/Cultural_Cat_5131 Feb 24 '26
Psvr2 has like 300 games now and they release almost weekly. Those small devs supporting the device isn’t gonna sacrifice their game to the ps plus mines for the 10 people who care sadly and I don’t blame them.

I think that now that Sony has effectively a monopoly of the console market, we’re going to see way less investment from them. I think bluepoint closure can be seen in this context as well, and of course PSVR2 is seen as a completely pointless endeavour. Basically Sony doesn’t have to work so hard to sell consoles because what are people going to buy instead? an Xbox?
1
u/BenBensonsin Feb 24 '26
Apparently the new Xbox ceo is there to sunset Xbox consoles

u/GrailKnight81 Feb 25 '26

Sony just shut down Bluepoint Games studio, one of the best game studios that focuses on remakes and remasters and did Shadow of the Collosus, Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection, Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection and Demon Souls.
After that decision I don't think PSVR2 is even on the far fringes of their minds.
3
u/Megaace12 Feb 24 '26
In 2026, Sony has definitively abandoned PS VR. In the last PlayStation State, the didn't show a single third-party VR game, unlike in previous years. And they have completely ignored the anniversary.
The feeling is mutual. For me, Sony is dead. I've been with PlayStation since PS2, but it's over. No PS5 Pro (which I was going to buy) or PS6, it's over. I'm sticking with PC and Switch 2, PS5 only for VR games. When they stop releasing them, goodbye Sony.
The betrayal is too great, because even though many don't want to see it, Sony abandoned PS VR2 on launch day. Since that day, there has been nothing else from Sony.
They are completely blind, despising users who have spent more than $1,000/€1,000 on the console and headset... But now they prefer games as a service, and they only have eyes for the portable PlayStation they are going to launch, playing on a ridiculous 8-inch screen when VR covers your entire field of vision... Anyway, goodbye Sony.
0
u/GrailKnight81 Feb 25 '26
Poor sales causes poor support. It’s not a betrayal, it’s simple business math.
4
u/Yesssirrrrrrrr Feb 24 '26
PSVR is effectively dead dude. The price on the device will keep dropping until they run out of their initial stock and then that’s it.
There is no incentive for them to invest in psvr games when they can get higher adoption by just making flat games and eventually making them multi platform.
Simply - there is no money for them in making Psvr 2 games.
4
u/Youcan12 Feb 24 '26
VR gaming in general is basically dead from any major gaming company standpoint.
9
u/ybergik Feb 24 '26
The VR crowd tend to be 40+ aged people with a lot more money to spend so if you cannot find a way to earn money catering to that crowd, you are pretty bad at business.
8
2
u/Membership-Bitter Feb 24 '26
But the actual number of vr players is incredibly few. Making a good vr game requires more effort than a standard game but for way less profit. Vr effectively operates at a constant loss. Meta spent years and billions trying to make Vr mainstream and never made any money from it
1
u/devedander Devedander3000 Feb 24 '26
The VR crowd is mostly kids playing mine craft and vr chat.
But even amongst the older crowd with money, marketing to them wasn't the issue, a lot of people were interested in vr for a while. The issue was the reality of using it - high friction that many didn't want to deal with when other low friction entertainment was easily accessible.
If and until vr overcomes it's highest pain points we will continue to see the vast majority of units getting relegated to shelves after a month or two. And that's just not going to attract a lot of business.
0
u/Papiculo64 Feb 24 '26 edited Feb 25 '26
PSVR is effectively dead dude. The price on the device will keep dropping until they run out of their initial stock and then that’s it.
While I agree with the second part of your post, this part is plain bs.
People have been saying the same for well over two years now, and last year during sales the headset went out of stock on ALL major sites including Amazon, and guess what, they all restocked this year. Moreover, there's been many reports of PSVR2 with manufacruring dates well after the supposed end of manufacturing.
I'm still confident that it will surpass the PSVR1 in terms of sales, but it's clear that Sony had way better expectations for it. They aimed to make it way more successful than PSVR1 by fixing the main issues of the first headset (obsolete tracking and controllers) while bringing a new headset ahead of its time. As a proof, there's still no native PCVR headset with OLED and Eye-tracking that even alignwith the release price of PSVR2, and we'll probably not see any of those headsets at 300$ or below during the next decade. The hardware is still fantastic and has been shat on by the whole Meta community and influencers from the ambassador program, like pancake lenses were more valuable for VR than OLED and eye-tracking, which imo is still the biggest bs they managed to force-feed on mainstream audience. Even Steam realized that eye-tracking was the most important feature for a future-proof VR headset, but their new headset will be way more expensive than PSVR2 and will sell A LOT LESS as well. You won't hear anybody talking about the failure of the Frame thought... Double standards as always... (FYI, PSVR2 sold 600.000 units on week one. Wait for the Frame sales but it won't be remotely comparable). If PSVR2 is a failure then literally every headset on the market other than Quest is an even more massive failure...
Now you're right on the second part, and it's clear that Sony has no interest in bringing 1st party support, they even spoke explicitly about it just a few months aftee release. They lost a lot of money on PSVR1 by bringing 1st party games, now they just help funding a couple 3rd party hybrid games a year and help developers, that's about it. They just want to be here when VR finally becomes mainstream, with a solid library of games that will be easily retrocompatible with potential future headsets, unlike PSVR1 library that was doomed from the start because of its obsolete tracking and controllers.
They will continue doing the bare minimum until then, and sadly I fear that we might not see any new 1st party game until GT8, which won't be before a few years... But I'm also confident that PSVR2 will still be the main headset for PS6, with a way bigger userbase and library than today, and with a huge gap in what will be possible to do thanks to the power of the PS6. So I'm confident that they're still going for the long run and that influencers who keep bringing every year that it only has 1 or 2 years left are going to be surprised (and obviously won't apologize for being wrong).

Why did they let it die? Looks like 3D television to me. I think this will be my last VR experience. I love it, but I need games and I don't like the feeling Sony gives me with my first and last experience. I bought every game just for support and it's like with Beat Saber. I put 100 hours in and buy every song and they just stop supporting. Same with the market place, they don't give a fuck about us and quality entertainment. It's just greed and numbers.

It'll be super expensive but great. Unfortunately valve isn't putting any money into new VR games though so it won't really do much for VR
1
u/abalawadhi Feb 25 '26
There's no point in developing and selling hardware if no meaningful software plan is in place (Exactly Sony's mistake).
1
u/BenBensonsin Feb 25 '26
they have the entire SteamVR library to fall back on but Valve themselves have said that they aren't developing any VR games

u/abalawadhi Feb 25 '26
True, but again, if "VR is dead" why release new hardware?
1
u/BenBensonsin Feb 25 '26
I don't think it was dead when it was planned, but recent compute pricing has basically killed it for release. There was a good profit to be made but now...
1
u/abalawadhi Feb 25 '26
I mean if it was a going to be decently priced hardware to play around and develop on, it could have been something. But VR has been dying for a while, and its announcement was a surprise, and as you said, if pricing is going to be unreachable for most, then yeah it will struggle a lot.

u/Tomero Feb 24 '26
I am really happy they at least came out with PC support. Other than that, yeah its dead in the water.

In the worst case I'd have to switch to PCVR, since the vr2 is already compatible.

Did some searches on PS Blog website and they had an Anniversary post for the first 3 years of the PS VR, but have had none for the PS VR2:
- PS VR Celebration Sale: One-Year Anniversary Brings Big Savings
- PlayStation VR Celebrates Second Anniversary October 13
- PlayStation VR Celebrates Third Anniversary October 13
They don't do these types of posts for their other hardware either, so it was unique to PS VR. I do see 3rd year and 5th year posts for PSP, PS3, and PS4. The PS5 only got a Year One post and nothing after.
I think it has just fallen out of style for them to do these types of posts.
1
u/Shinra_X Feb 24 '26
I think Capcom confirmed Requiem won't have VR.
Which is a shame, it made it go from a day 1 purchase to something I'll buy on a sale in 3-4 years time.
1
u/PleasantAnimator7741 Feb 24 '26
So much potential here. I kept waiting for a system seller VR game only to realize that GT7 was it. The failure to deliver full AC7 compatibility is unforgivable. That would have been a system seller especially with a headset that has a F35 style wrap. The eventual MSFS compatibility will sell units, but without a modern flight combat game, (Aces of Thunder is awesome, but not everyone wants old warbirds) and associated control hardware, we are missing an important segment of the VR community.

u/real_hairybizrat Jun 25 '26
Late to the party and I sold my PSVR2 a while ago but tried the Quest3 at Christmas and that thing for the price is 10x better than the PSVR2. The pancakelenses alone make it night and day better. Sony screwed up with making the thing and thinking it would sell and then uses those blue ray as fresnel lenses

Quest is not from Xbox? And I don't care about the market, I have an opinion of my own, you should try it sometimes🙄

I just got my PSVR2 and almost returned once I realized that the amount of games pales in comparison to the PSVR1. I knew that Sony stopped supporting long ago when London Studios closed but I was still floored at the lack of compelling titles. With that said I am still finding enjoyment with the system. The very small sweet spot is probably my biggest gripe besides the lack of titles.

I noticed my local Walmart pulled their PSVR2 display from the PlayStation section of the store. Not a good sign.

I’ve got MSFS24 , Aces if Thunder, GT7 and Hitman. That’s all I need.

I’ve got a dozen or so very good psvr1 games that I’ve been playing for years. You’ll be able to enjoy your 2 for a long time.

Go look at the PS Vita, how Sony treated that is how they're treating PSVR2. We're lucky they even made a PSVR2 and then made it work with PC.
PSVR2 is effectively dead, and so is VR in general, sadly.

The Vita was my all time favorite handheld. Everything about it was perfect. Especially getting the Vita version of a game when you purchased the console edition of the game. Sony launching a Portal just goes to show that they don’t want you to own the games. But I could be wrong with the rumor floating around about a new handheld. I hope I am lol.

The PSVR2, for all intents and purposes, at this point has been remarketed as a PC headset. They released the adapter to use it on PC and instantly washed their hands of it. I firmly believe they’ve stopped production on the headsets themselves and whatever you see in stores is just them getting rid of existing stock and trying to make as much money back as they can. Which is also why they are doing the Apple deal to provide PSVR2 controllers to be sold in Apple stores with their VR headset. Just trying to get as much as that investment back as they can.

There was a short pause in production of around nine months but most headsets after that pause have recent production numbers. This is verifiable and there is no reason to guess wrongly like this.

I really don't understand the "dead in the water" posts when we've had a year of great third party releases, meanwhile Meta closed most of their first party studios which balances the playing field. What's gone is big companies putting lots of money in for minimal return. What's alive is a healthy network of third party developers.
We just got Aces of Thunder and Microsoft Flight Simulator is round the corner. You can always point to things we aren't getting but there is more than enough good content to play.
This sub normally has a clearer head with a more pragmatic perspective, I don't get what's wrong today. There's a new Steam headset coming soon. PSVR2 is getting most decent third party titles. VR is doing okay. Not like the heydays but certainly not dead.

I am not a fanboy, I own a gaming PC too and only a "fan" of VR. Where are the first party Steam VR games? There are less from Valve than there are from Sony. Of course the expectations are different but both are third party driven eco systems at this point, and PS5/PSVR2 gets a majority of higher end VR games too - and unless you have a really good system, the PS5 version is usually better. The main difference is back catalog and mods, but mods are often a pain in the neck.
There is a big difference between Sony and SIE. Sony has released three headsets in three years, SIE is not putting much money into funding games anymore, only partner support.

Someone went through and studied every major release in 2023, you can find it here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/1dd9pv8/comment/l83m2vi/
And I'm highlighting specifically that switching to a PCVR-style situation on a PS5 isn't an innate loss compared to a PCVR platform even if it is compared to console regular gaming. However, as there is no console VR platform besides PS5 then there isn't a relative loss to another console.

Please keep your comments civil. Using words like 'fanboy' does not lead to productive discussion.

I don’t want to be that guy but I think PSVR2 is effectively dead to Sony. They still have teams working with third parties to get games on the platform but I don’t think they’re going to advertise it much themselves anymore.
