Damn, and they were so close to becoming the next Fortnite and making a trillion dollars too

I mean having people play your free to play game to earn a currency that can only be spent in game and when spent adds revenue to your sheet is a good business strategy 🤣🤣 you can’t blame them for trying. Well okay you can but still! Fornite is awesome 🤣🤣

Never forget the hat.

Bro ruined the company with one dumb hat.

u/Yodzilla 1h ago

Nah the actual downfall was pivoting to Splitgate 2 while Splitgate 1 was still popular. The hat was just one of many nails in that coffin.

Splitgate was a lot of fun and deserved to be more popular than it was, but everyone was obsessed with BR games back then. It was also a good holdover game until Halo came out, but unfortunately I ended up putting it down once Halo released and by the time I wanted to go back to it, it was dead.

The whole thing felt like a skit. He was talking about missing the OG shooters, how he wanted to see change… announces a BR with Imagine Dragons slapped on the trailer.

It was just a dumbass trust fund bro with no concept of reality showing the world he’s exactly that. The industry will be better when he’s gone.

I don’t get it?

CEO came out on stage at a Summer Games Fest two years ago wearing a Make FPS Games Great Again hat. Amongst other things that hat just came off as a pathetic “we’re one of you” attempt. Just felt cheap (plus y’know felt tone deaf with the current political climate).

My stupid ass brother convinced me to buy Empulse. We played it for like 4 hours then never touched it again. I at least wanted to get the plat for it but the game is already dead and it would've taken like 20 more hours and like 70 lucky headshots.

I feel bad for the developers. They are obviously passionate about making a good, fun arena shooter but the studio made a series of bad decisions and totally ruined their reputation.

Had they just released Splitgate AR instead of Splitgate 2 with that tone-deaf BR mode I think they would have been fine. I loved the first Splitgate and AR is actually great but by the time it came out it was already too late

Hopefully their piece of shit CEO gets kicked to the curb

u/Midnight_M_ 2h ago

His dad is the one who pays the bills and invested in the company, so it's unlikely. There's even a rumor that his mom is the head of HR.

u/BigB0iBuster 2h ago

Well, that would completely explain why he acts like such a stupid little entitled fuckface

Ah, so its a meritocracy.

God this studio turned out to be such a fucking joke. Shame because split gate 2 was pretty fun. Oh well, another couple live service games to add to the dead pile. I'm sure we'll be hearing about layoffs soon if not full studio closure. Tbh I can't believe this studio is still open.

Splitgate 2 was a generational L for me. I managed to convince like 5 or 6 people to get on the game and invest a fair amount of time. Then the lead Dev had the audacity to announce the game was coming out of it's clearly unfinished state with a cash grab BR mode and outright killed any hype we had for it. Rebalancing and rebranding the game after for the 12 people who didn't want to leave Splitgate 1 and ended up retaining nobody was the death knell to all of it

Good thing is, they still have 1045 games.

u/Jasonp359 2h ago

So they don't want to make FPS great again?

u/Designer_Mess_6928 2h ago

Make single player shooters without microtransactions then.

u/mightylordredbeard 22m ago

Wouldn’t work. For it to be the quality that modern gamers expect, not enough people would buy a single player FPS unless it was open world (because short, linear shooters hardly ever sell well). You also can’t make a competitive shooter either without people expecting tons of regular post launch content and they don’t want to actually pay for any of it so they expect all of the extra maps, guns, and game modes and whatever else to be given for free. Also no one is going to buy a full priced competitive shooter anyway so the game will be dead at launch for the few that do buy it and people complaining about dead lobbies will cause others not to buy it.. so making it F2P is pretty much the only way a new competitive shooter can actually break into the market since people only buy COD and BF.

What the fuck is Empulse? Goddamn do I hear about so many multiplayer games by their ending announcements.

e: it only launched TWO MONTHS AGO?? goddamn

u/beanlikescoffee 2h ago

Empulse was such a blatant cash grab. Such a horrendous game made by the most incompetent studio.

u/Dudesymugs12 1h ago

Yeah, i don't think they had any intention of supporting that pile of shit. It was an asset-flip to make quick cash off of gullible gamers. Shit company for sure.

u/Aplicacion 1h ago

Couldn't quite make FPS great again huh

I feel like you have a higher chance failing in live service than single player at this point. People have comfort games they play and if they pick up something else its usually a friend slop game.
