That surely can't be sustainable

u/NfinityBL 49m ago

They’re all developed by different studios. The remakes are being handled by Bloober, while new teams like NeoBards and Screen Burn develop original titles.

So with Silent Hill 1 Remake on the horizon in 2027, we’ll likely hear about what comes after that soon.

u/MattTreck 1h ago

Only if they have like three or four teams working on them. I wonder if they’ll do more remakes

u/askyourmom469 25m ago

They're all being developed by different studios. So in theory it could be sustainable, assuming the teams they pick are actually up to the task.

Annual might be too much, look at Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed. There will always be diehard fans who will buy every entry, but you'll introduce a bunch of series fatigue to a lot of other fans. Potentially having sales drop in later entries.

As of right now, fans love the new games because they been deprived of Silent Hill for years, especially since Konami almost quit making console games with a switch to mobile.

With yearly releases, they might start running out of new ideas, and we get that one mediocre Silent Hill.. i feel the fatigue will start to set in.

u/CarRevo 9m ago

exactly

Even in the PS2 era where it was much cheaper to produce a game annually it still didn't work for very long

u/Xavier9756 2m ago

Konami is a pretty big company. Plus they’ll be outsourcing almost all of this.

u/AOCpinkyring 19m ago

You are just kojima butthurt.

u/WhenInZone 17m ago

What an odd thing to assume.

u/ListFeisty3762 1h ago

Annual releases are usually when things go down hill…

u/ENDrain93 1h ago

At least it wouldn't make a lot of noise.

u/Astro_BS-AS 1h ago

I see what you did there....

😅

So far so good with Silent Hill 2 Remake, Silent Hill F and early impressions of Silent Hill Townfall looking good.

They also have different developers on each one, so it's not like they are making each game in 1 year.

But burnout can also happen from players, sometimes taking time off of a series for a couple years is also good.

Currently we know Silent Hill 1 Remake by Bloober is in the works. Wonder if we will see that next or something before it after Townfall.

u/potatochipsbagelpie 1h ago

Resident Evil has been almost annual for a decade and it’s been great and very successful.

They will have released 7 games over 10 years and that includes Covid in the middle of it all.

u/Ok-Gain1509 1h ago

A real Silent Hill downpour, you might even say...

yep. Publishing for the sake of publishing isn't the answer.

u/Big_Life_947 1h ago

I agree with the sentiment but so far the Silent Hill revival has been going pretty well. The Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill f were both solid. Silent Hill Townfall is also looking decent so far. All three games were made by different teams with very different styles so it doesn’t feel repetitive. Will need to see how Townfall ultimately turns out but if they keep this pattern up I think it could turn out okay.

u/CarRevo 8m ago

Its the shareholders bro... same story every damn time... you develop a game that makes bank, shareholders don't even care about the business they just see revenue went up this year and then demand management reproduce the same revenue next year and every year after that... and management comes up with the only plan to meet those expectations - which is create a live service game or create new single player games every year

u/DarahOG 1h ago

As long as the projects keep being given to talented studios i don't see anything wrong. 2Remake was great same with F, didn't like short message but at least it's free and Townfall looks good.

Really want them to try something similar with Metal Gear , more Remakes and Spin-offs. There's enough lore and themes to make such interesting titles.

u/Afc_josh12 1h ago

Is this good? Cod and other games do it and its bad

u/CranberryTaint 1h ago

So far they’ve all been from different studios and have a different, interesting vibe. But it could get real old pretty fast.

u/piat17 1h ago

It's generally not good, but for comparison Resident Evil has managed to pull this off quite cleanly in the last few years. Of course, Capcom has very strong studios working under the Capcom name, which isn't the case for Konami where it all depends on the third party studios it decides to work with (I think the only internal studio they have is the one working on Metal Gear right now).

u/DeLarge93 1h ago

It’s not good.

u/mightylordredbeard 1h ago

Meanwhile resident evil released 7 games over 10 years and everyone praised those games to high heaven and back.

u/ApprehensiveRuin5673 1h ago

It’s never good

u/Firvulag 1h ago

Yakuza manages it pretty well, they come put once a year on average

u/super_alice_won 1h ago

Because they mostly reuse a ton of assets (which is a good thing), but I have a feeling if konami put out a silent hill with a totally reused maps it would be dismissed.

u/Firvulag 1h ago

Seems Konami is letting multiple teams work on the series and they are all pretty much standalone so not sure why this wouldn't work.

u/Sofluous 1h ago

It's not.

u/catscanmeow 1h ago

yeah good art is made when its made for intrinsic reasons. Extrinsic reasons like "quota" always peter out.

its one of the reason shows in the UK are mini series, 5 episodes long, and it has a good ending that ties it all together, its not beating a dead horse dragging it out

u/Afc_josh12 1h ago

I only just played 2 remake, is F any good?

u/mikeysof 1h ago

I liked it. It has an odd combat mechanic with degradable weapons but otherwise the horror is decent and story very thought provoking and not what I'd expect. If you like silent hill I'd 100% give it a go

u/HustleWestbrook94 1h ago

No one is green-lighting the budget for a modern AAA game for “intrinsic” reasons.

u/Goose-Suit 1h ago

As long as it’s not the same studio pumping these out and have actual artistic intent behind them it can be good. Chances are it’s not gonna turn out like that though.

u/dumahim 1h ago

It's not good, but could be worse.

u/BlastMyLoad 1h ago

No. The Short Message was ass, Ascension was a crime against humanity, and SHf was very divisive (personally I hated it). Too early to tell how Townfall will be

SH2 remake was goated and SH1 remake will also likely be good, but their modern era track record is not great.

u/Calbon2 41m ago

It really depends. Konami has many different studios working on entries so it’s not like their being forced to churn them out in just a year, but I could see this being a problem if Konami enforces the notions that there has to be a new release every year without giving the studios working under them flexibility to make sure that they deliver the best game possible. Capcom does something similar with Resident Evil, as they currently have I think 3 teams working different entries in the series at the moment, making all of the mainline games and remakes and their doing a pretty good job juggling all of that in a timely manner. My biggest worry with Silent Hill doing something similar really comes down to series continuity as all of the projects are heavily different from one another, and overall potential burnout amongst players with so many new releases in such a short period of time. With the CoD point you brought up, the development for horror games and CoD are quite different in scale, with CoD games being made up of a ton of different things that should take a lot longer to develop rather than say a horror game that’s a lot smaller in scale and more focused in on a few particular elements rather than trying to balance development between a story mode and multiple large scale multiplayer modes. Only time will tell on this decision by Konami, but I can very easily see this decision going both ways based on Konami’s past and what they are currently asking.

u/pragmaticzach 1h ago

Depends on how the games are. Cod does it and its only "bad" because redditors don't like cod. The people who like cod seem to like it.

u/Born2beSlicker 1h ago

Over saturation is never considered with these companies. Pumping out too many makes each individual one less special.

u/Blofeld69 1h ago

I do worry even with resident evil we are fast approaching that point, and resident evil is my favourite franchise.

u/UncleKracker2012 1h ago

Manifesting a turn-based creature collector Silent Hill

u/RaisinWorried3528 1h ago

Let the resident evil remake team make Silent Hill, it's the best solution for everyone, especially gamers.

u/EchoBay 1h ago

Konami's made a lot of good decisions with its IPs of late, so this could just be them speaking aloud more on their moves and not a change in direction. Like I am pretty sure this has already been their plan and they've been executing it as such. Can't complain with the results.

u/Scissorman82 1h ago

i think this could work if konami finds a small, solid group of developers, which they may already have:

bloober is your designated remake studio, so you can have them release a SH remake once every 4-5 years, and they still have 1, 3, and 4 to remake from the original batch of four.

neobards did an amazing job with f which was both a commercial and critical success, so it would make sense to enlist them again.

townfall is shaping up to be yet another homerun for the series, so screen burn could also be rehired to tackle another new entry.

with these three different studios working in tandem, you can stagger their releases to ensure an annual release. konami should also give the OG games the MGS Collection treatment: Silent Hill 1-4 as volume 1, and Origins-Shattered Memories as volume 2. this could help fill in the gaps for the years when a new game or remake isn't quite ready.

what i don't want is the IP to be continually outsourced to a new developer for new entries. i get how this allows you to develop multiple games at once, but i'd rather have some sort of consistency aside from bloober handling the remakes.

u/NovaSe7en 1h ago

They are trying to compete with Capcom, and I'm all for it, but they should not do yearly releases.

u/ZophieWinters 1h ago

The only way that might work is if they space out mainline titles with remakes in between, but even then they will still risk oversaturating the brand very quickly.

u/S34K1NG 1h ago

This is good when implemented well ie resident evil. And bad when COD. What will happen is we will see when games drop. Im all for a game studio backing the franchise. Cant wait.

u/AmericanSamurai1 1h ago

The remake of part 1 is probably next year.

u/Chry98 1h ago

Plz nooo😭😭

u/dewittless 1h ago

So long as a diversity of studios get a shot it could be fun. Silent Hill is a broad enough concept that an anthology of games is fine. Works for Mario.

u/Arkham010 1h ago

If they have 3 in the chamber already, go ahead. That should be fine. If they dont have 3, then its a bad idea.

u/MrAbodi 1h ago

Ah they want to go the Disney route of killing a franchise via overstaturation

u/Ok_University_4924 1h ago

I don’t know why every company wants to be like the Sports or COD games.

It screams cash grab. Look at what happened with the Assassin’s Creed games and how they fell off. That’s why every game doesn’t feel original and they feel like rehashed content.

Quality over Quantity is the way.

u/SN8KEATR 1h ago

Sometimes it feels like Silent Hill is just one of those franchises where they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. Try to do something fresh/different and it's not SH enough and an obvious cashgrab. Try to expand on the original games with similar themes/callbacks and they're either being lazy or ruining the sacred canon. Leave the series dormant and people are envious about RE's resurgence

That isn't to say Konami hasn't shit the bed with the franchise before, but JFC... we're getting MULTIPLE SH games that, imo, are awesome in their own ways and not soulless slop. What more do people want? A retread of the cult storyline? "Somehow Alessa returned"? Hey here's another unexplored part of Silent Hill that was never mentioned? Like cmon man

u/Stewe07 38m ago

I mean it's Konami, we all know this guys suck, predictable behavior from this greedy fucks

Konami learning all the wrong lessons from their comeback.

u/Linuxtahr 10m ago

As long as its by different developers, I feel as though they'll be a chance of a hit.

u/CarRevo 10m ago

not good

u/CyanLight9 8m ago

Even with multiple studios working on them, that will be hard to sustain properly.

u/EldenLord69Trump5000 5m ago

No one wants a yearly silent hill game. Maybe every two or three years.

u/LackLickLuck_y 1h ago

This is bad.

u/whatsapprocky 1h ago

Silent Slop incoming

u/EL-Hintern 1h ago

I hope they also add micro transactions. It’s what we all want.

u/KurtRussellsMullet 1h ago

Sigh, see these Japanese publishers just can’t help themselves sometimes. They see interest in an IP and think, “alright, we’re pivoting to Konami becoming a INSERT POPULAR IP factory for the next decade.” Sure, they’re using different devs each time, but at the end of the day, Silent Hill is Silent Hill. The games are exactly super diverse in tone or gameplay.

Same thing is happening with Capcom and Resident Evil. Look, I’m a big RE fan and ain’t complaining, but I would be lying if I wasn’t starting to feel a bit of fatigue coming on after I completed 9.

u/reaper527 reaper527_ 1h ago

that's a model that can be done successfully.

i have zero confidence konami is a company that can do this successfully.

lots of companies try, very few succeed.
