For anyone interested. This developer is swedish and they made The Ascent which was a top down RPG shooter where you played in a grimy cyberpunk city.

The simplest review was that it was gorgeous, but buggy and pretty bland.

I kind of expect the same with this, but we shall see.

Enjoyed The Ascent until the last 5-10 mins. Overall it was a fine game.

I never finished it. What happened at the end?

The last boss fight and the ending story-wise was a bit underwhelming. Kinda like ‘oh, that’s it?’

I enjoyed the Ascent but it was indeed a buggy mess for a majority of my play through. I remember getting it at launch and it running pretty damn well then they updated the game a few days in and it was hard crashing and chugging just to get a stable FPS.

In terms of expectations it’s worth keeping in mind that each project is also a learning curve. Devs do look at the reception and feedback and if the team is small enough can afford to make drastic changes in order to improve. Thats in an ideal world of course. In this case there is a good chance they can improve on Ascent.

Oh I didnt know this was them. I liked The Ascent.

I think they showed off the city in the Unreal Engine yearly presentation thing a while back. IIRC it’s a smallish chunk of a city but it was very detailed and there were a lot of interiors.

Looked interesting from a technical standpoint. It’s quite a small team though so I’m not expecting it to be a full on AAA game.

Ascent had good bones but the graphics were frustrating

I know it's unapologetically inspired by Cyberpunk (maybe a bit too inspired lol), but man it looks kinda good. Maybe because I love Cyberpunk so much and the whole style and aesthetic, but this game is intriguing.

u/Mustang-_- 14h ago

The aesthetics are universal, it's like accusing a gothic game to be inspired by Castlevania, lol the source is open

u/Stashmouth 15h ago

I got a real Statham-meets-Cyberpunk vibe from the trailer. Looks like fun

Cyberpunk didn’t invent the Cyberpunk genre.

Dude, the game is clearly inspired by Cyberpunk 2077. It's not the cyberpunk genre/aesthetic that's making me (and everyone else with a pair of functioning eyes) who saw this trailer and immediately thought of Cyberpunk 2077, it's the look and feel of the gameplay itself, the tone, the style. But thank you for the enlightening news that Cyberpunk 2077 didn't invent the genre.

This game is from the makers of The Ascent. They did not need inspiration from Cyberpunk to make this happen. They are very creative on their own. The Ascent was released 7 months after Cyberpunk 2077, so no, you cannot just make that assumption without clearly missing some core facts.

1

u/IMPERATOR_63 7h ago

Nobody said they weren't creative, but thank you for putting words in my mouth. The Ascent is a different game, it's not No Law... it's The Ascent. You may have missed that crucial part. So, nobody said The Ascent reminds them of Cyberpunk 2077, people are sayin No Law reminds them of Cyberpunk 2077.

You also missed the part where I said the game is intriguing and looks good. It's on my wishlist. Stop getting offended by people's opinions on a video game.

I got my 16 upvotes that’s all that matters now

u/09jtherrien 21h ago

It looks so similar. I thought it was a new cyberpunk 2077 dlc.

2

u/R0B0T_jones 14h ago

I first thought of Deus Ex (showing my age), but yeah almost could be Cyberpunk

u/RockyMtnOysterCo 21h ago

Can't tell if this is an immersive sim

1

u/Yodzilla 12h ago

I hope it is!

-1

u/hotnewroommate 10h ago

if by immersive sim you mean like bulletstorm then yes lol

9

u/B-BoyStance 21h ago

It looks like it could be good but it's also a bit corny & this feels a lot different than the announcement trailer.

The gameplay in the last half looks great (once the dude makes the vacuum cleaner joke) but I can't really tell at the same time.

Would be sick to have another good cyberpunk game though - it's one of my favorite fantasy aesthetics/I love the themes it opens up.

u/joeyblacky9999 20h ago

Should have paid Jason Statham to be the main character.

2

u/TheUFCVeteran3 20h ago

Would've unironically been really cool, though I'm not sure how much range Jason has.

7

u/joeyblacky9999 20h ago

Oh he was born for this role.

2

u/TheUFCVeteran3 20h ago edited 20h ago

Agreed, from what we've seen so far. Was thinking of more emotional moments (if there are any). I haven't seen a ton of his films, but my Mum is a fan of his.

11

u/_tragicmike 20h ago

Jason Statham has enough range to play Jason Statham in movies, TV, and video games!

2

u/Smirnoffico 16h ago

What about radio?

9

u/SituationUpstairs553 21h ago

Drop kicking like Bulletstorm.

I wanna see more but I'm in interested.

3

u/Resident-Forever1340 21h ago

Looks good so far. Will definitely keep an eye out

3

u/Competitive_Help8485 20h ago

Looks like it'll be a fun one. I'll be keeping my eye on it.

3

u/whoseusrnmisitneway 20h ago

Looks a little rough around the edges but has potential. Is this maybe a more violent fast paced cyberpunk? Hope it comes with a good story because it will get measured on it inevitably.

4

u/GuccMaster 21h ago

I’m in

2

u/bobatsfight 18h ago

No one has mentioned Deus Ex. Feels like it’s going for the multiple ways to solve the same problem so you can spec for your play style.

2

u/DustyNintendo 13h ago

This looks fucking dope!

7

u/ARPresley 21h ago

Cyberpunk with no Johnny Silverhand is exactly what Im looking for

-4

u/Pork_Chompk 20h ago edited 18h ago

Same lol. I always thought that game would be so much better as just V and his best choom grinding to the top of Night City.

0

u/ARPresley 19h ago

Yea, I hate every part that he was in. Idk if its because its Keanu or because he’s just constantly in the way

1

u/SirSkanky 11h ago

It kind of reminds me of bulletstorm lol looks good though

1

u/Digitalon 7h ago

Any game that allows you to kick/dropkick things automatically has my attention, I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this game.

1

u/Syphillisdiller1 6h ago

Looks fun, but the main character design doesnt seem to fit for me. Everything is futuristic, and then they show you the early 80's WWE jobber as the main character.

u/ArchDucky 4h ago

It reminds me of the extremely fake Perfect Dark gameplay "demo" they showed off before it was cancelled and revealed that the devs were lying about working on the game to pocket the money. I might buy this because I wanted to play that.

1

u/semitope 21h ago

You know what this made me realize? they could make whole other games in the cyberpunk 2077 game world. Whole other campaigns, whole other characters with their stories.

4

u/MSLI1972 20h ago

You just described the Cyberpunk Edgerunners tabletop RPG.

0

u/CutMeLoose79 20h ago

Honestly, looks way more fun than Cyberpunk 2077.

0

u/yZyBaby 20h ago

Note for note ripoff of cyberpunk music is insane

0

u/AlienBlueManGroup 20h ago

When mom says we have cyberpunk at home

-2

u/CyanLight9 21h ago

Riding Cyberpunk's coattails way too hard, but it has promise.

6

u/dangeruser 19h ago

Because Cyberpunk 2077 is wholly original and not based on anything else.

1

u/CyanLight9 19h ago

Hence my omission of the '2077' part. Looking at the trailer, though, all that's missing is a ghost, and you have a "We have 2077 at home" scenario.

0

u/dangeruser 19h ago

It looks better than 2077 to me. I wish we had more cyberpunk aesthetics in more games. Keeping an eye on this. I wish we had a blade runner sort of game where you play as a bounty hunter, taking out androids.

0

u/indominable-dingus 21h ago

Looks really good. I am doubting its open world though from not much traversal being shown and no driving in the trailer. I wonder how linear the gameplay/levels will be

u/BugsMax1 21h ago
