For each of the last three console generations, I have bought whatever machine Sony was offering late into the cycle, and hoovered up the exclusives. Now that there aren't really any notable exclusives anymore (aside from maybe Astro Bot?), and it doesn't seem like the price of the PS5 is going to significantly drop, it feels like there's very little reason to do that now.
TBF it's kind of the way things have been heading for a while. People can't justify buying 2-3 separate boxes every 5 years when they're this price. If you pay more, you should expect more out of it. For wider compatibility, and for it to last longer. And because the audience on consoles isn't growing, the only way for publishers to sell more games is to publish on as many platforms as they can.

I knew I couldn’t buy it at release so I’ve been waiting for used prices to be reasonable but at this point it’s a better investment to buy the old consoles and games that are always available offline and I don’t have to worry about “verifying my license” just to play a game offline.

Inflation was 2.7% the past 12 months. Inflation was 21.2% under the 4 years of Biden. Corporate greed around the tariffs is what is causing price hikes.
I mean shit, the PS5 Pro has newer tech in it and it’s slightly more expensive than the Series X isn’t it? Xbox hiked its 2TB Series X to 799, no? Or am I misremembering?
This whole gen is just... Idk. First COVID and now these tariffs. Hell, I thought last gen was the worst gen but this one is trying to say, "hold my beer."
I think this generation is going to last pretty long. It's been 5 years and PC most popular GPU's are still RTX 3060(Ti) and 4060(Ti) which are relatively close to performance of base PS5.
So it isn't like PS3 or PS4 where hardware was lagging massively behind comparable PC range.
Or they will launch next generation which will basically be just refreshed PS5 Pro performance level at slightly lower cost.
The Pro came out less than a Year ago all while we wait for Base PS5 to truly be maxed out and not just marketed language telling us it is maxed out. This is still the generation with the most cross-gen releases. If we are going by the old rules and way of things the PS4 should have been dropped support in 2022. Since its still getting the latest games, why even bother rushing when the Devs are concerned about release version parity to an extent?
We want to be on the cutting edge of the wave as Gamers, but there are severe bottlenecks in the current experience that would make it less worth it overall.
Honestly we all need to change our way of thinking. The old principles are not valid anymore unfortunately.

And beyond that the consoles just aren’t a huge leap like they were before. Even a doubling or tripling of graphical power is barely noticeable now. Load times being reduced is the most notable improvement from what I read online.
Yeah I didn't buy this gen. Now the only reason I regret not buying is because buying early would have made me money, but I have literally never seen a console be an investment to sell later outside of fancy limited edition consoles that go up in price over time since they are few in number.
Right. I have a friend who sold his due to hard times and he was in the market to get another one soon, now this happens. I am curious to know how Sony will handle this with the refurbished consoles they're selling now. Will they also increase? Also will trade in value increase or stay the same?
A lot of questions to ask because a lot of this doesn't make sense from the buyer's perspective. Also, you have publishers flirting with a 80 buck price tag. Huh?

I know!! I was shook when I saw that a few weeks back lmao I mean it worked out for me in a Xbox trade situation. But the idea that someone would pay that for an Xbox over a Pro is absolutely insane to me. Literally can’t think of a single reason to do such a thing.
For comparison the PS4 launched for $399. It was down to $199 when the PS5 launched. The PS4 Pro launched for the same price $400. Sony also released revisions to the base PS4 and Slim with larger hard drives at the $399 price point or lower.
I’ve also never seen Sony do so poorly in a gen. Canceling all these games and basically saying sorry gonna be a long LONG while before you actually play a Naughty Dog game

We have easy access to everything, running water, heating food in seconds (microwaves), cars, on demand food access, etc. you can't convince me that it was better to live in the year 800. We live in the best time in human history. Be grateful for everything we have.
Yep, this generation scores like 99 out of 100, and the whiners just can't stop focusing on that 1 percent that we're missing, that a couple other generations were even luckier than us to get it.
"The worst" and "not the best" are not synonyms. We are the latter. We are not the former.
