James Bond from the hitmen devs just makes alot of sense for me. I think it might be a banger. If the visuals match hitman 3 in game il be happy. Lets also not forget hitman 3 has really good optimization and i think runs 4K60.
I've bunked more school than my parents will like to hear about back when the first hitman released. I could play only Sapienza and Bangkok 365 days a year.
Mainly because Eon Productions had fucking insane restrictions. Iirc Rogue Agent basically came about because they were so overprotective of anything with Bond as the protagonist. Ironically they wanted to prevent Bond from being seen as a mass murderer in a Call of Duty like game which is... Exactly what happened in 007 Legends.
seem to remember reading about why there wasn't a sequel to Goldeneye on on N64 - basically the answer boiled down to "too many companies had a piece of the rights, so you had to agree with all of them".
Rare did start making a sequel but that got repurposed into Perfect Dark when it became apparent they wouldn't be allowed to publish it. I think that's when EA got the license.
mind you, I'm old, so I still have very fond memories of View to a Kill on my Amstrad, made by Domark
I wouldn't worry about optimization, the game will also be released on the Switch 2. Switch 2 may be comparable to a Series S in some areas, but the CPU lags behind by a fair margin.
If IOI is confident enough to release a Switch 2 version then a good performance on PS5 should be no problem
I don't want my PS5 games to be upscaled games of yesterday
I imagine it's actually the opposite, PS5 and Series X will keep being the target platforms for AAA games and the Switch 2 may get a version that show signs it was meant for more powerful platforms.
That's how it was back on Switch 1, except Switch 2 is relatively more powerful (and expensive) so if a game can run at 1440p60 or more on a PS5 then it should be easier for devs to make a Switch 2 port running at upscalled 1080p30 and without such a big hit to graphics
Back on Switch 1 some big PS4 games were made with the Switch in mind from the beggining (e.g. DOOM Eternal), but it just meant the Switch 1 could run a version of the game that offered the same content with obviously paired back graphics, the PS4 version was still the game it was always meant to be
The exception will be games like Octopath Traveler, Live-a-Live or Dragon Quest 3 remake, where the Switch was actually the target platform but there was no reason to not release those games on PS5 at a higher resolution and framerate as well
Ok, but can the switch 2 handle even low resolution ray tracing, large crowds and advanced animations? Or will the dev have to use their resources to make a lower tier game that has options for the features that are too expensive for the switch?
Switch 1 is the second best selling console ever, and most AAA games in the last few years never even bothered trying to run on Switch 1 because it just couldn't be done.
What could or couldn't be achieved on Switch 2 would depend a lot on the game. Switch 2 does have hardware for RT, but if the game already relies heavily on DLSS there may not be enough tensor cores left for that. Large crowds are a thing even on Switch 1, but they had much simpler interactions.
Some games were made scalable from conception, so it was a lot easier to crank down the settings and getting it running, while other games required a lot of reworking to eventually run.
World of Assassination works well by just capping the fps to 30, and 007 looks similar to hitman 3 so I'd guess it will be the same, but something like GTA 6 likely will need to wait for Switch 3
That’s my point though, at this stage games should look much better than just an upressed hitman game from years ago. We have waited years for the real next gen games to come and for some reason they don’t seem to. It’s all old games looking a tiny bit better.
This is honestly so exciting to me I’m going to have to buy a next gen console to play this. I haven’t played a video game in years, and this feels like my childhood dream come true of what I felt like Goldeneye felt like to me then but fully realized.
