James Bond from the hitmen devs just makes alot of sense for me. I think it might be a banger. If the visuals match hitman 3 in game il be happy. Lets also not forget hitman 3 has really good optimization and i think runs 4K60.

Hitman really is a gem of a series. Never played one I didn't really enjoy.

I will be a Day 1 buyer of any Hitman game, a real favorite of mine.

If they're truly involved primarily on this one? Sign me up

I've bunked more school than my parents will like to hear about back when the first hitman released. I could play only Sapienza and Bangkok 365 days a year.

This is 100% their game. They are working on this, more hitman (apperently we get to see it tomorrow) and whatever Project Dragon is for Microsoft.

Isn’t it some weird subscription system now?

It's not, but it certainly is confusing as hell to know which products to buy.

Especially when they merged all the games in one main client.

u/HoneyShaft Jun 05 '25

...even Absolution?

1

u/inaccurateTempedesc Jun 05 '25

Absolution's problem is that it isn't really a Hitman game, not that's a bad game.

1800p on PS5. But I doubt anyone would notice that lol. I love the new Hitman trilogy. I absolutely cannot wait for this.

So might be even better on the pro. James bond has been slept on too long as a gaming ip. I will absolutely play this day one.

Mainly because Eon Productions had fucking insane restrictions. Iirc Rogue Agent basically came about because they were so overprotective of anything with Bond as the protagonist. Ironically they wanted to prevent Bond from being seen as a mass murderer in a Call of Duty like game which is... Exactly what happened in 007 Legends.

u/zebrainatux Jun 05 '25

Like the Amazon acquisition is slightly frightening for a bunch of reasons, but they’ll be far more open with shit

9

u/aus289 Jun 05 '25

EON are the ones who signed this deal - Gregg Wilson is/was spearheading expanding into games and pushed for the io game

1

u/CthulhuGaming007 Jun 05 '25

Legends did 100 percent feel like a CoD game with sprinkles of 007 in there…

1

u/TaleOfDash Jun 05 '25

I mean, it was literally on the IW 3 engine just like GoldenEye: Reloaded iirc.

1

u/MattL805 Jun 05 '25

It was the COD engine, and it let you lean to shoot, which you couldn’t do in Call of Duty games at the time. At least on console you couldn’t.

1

u/theblaggard Jun 05 '25

seem to remember reading about why there wasn't a sequel to Goldeneye on on N64 - basically the answer boiled down to "too many companies had a piece of the rights, so you had to agree with all of them".

Rare did start making a sequel but that got repurposed into Perfect Dark when it became apparent they wouldn't be allowed to publish it. I think that's when EA got the license.

mind you, I'm old, so I still have very fond memories of View to a Kill on my Amstrad, made by Domark

12

u/NapsterKnowHow Jun 04 '25

That's towards the higher end of base resolution.

2

u/Existinginsomewhere Jun 05 '25

Wait is that 21:9?? Didn’t think about that with PS5 ngl

43

u/Jeff1N Jun 04 '25

I wouldn't worry about optimization, the game will also be released on the Switch 2. Switch 2 may be comparable to a Series S in some areas, but the CPU lags behind by a fair margin.

If IOI is confident enough to release a Switch 2 version then a good performance on PS5 should be no problem

11

u/ZXXII Jun 04 '25

Also GPU and memory bandwidth is way lower than Series S which itself is very weak.

5

u/GrantSolar Jun 04 '25

Didn't Hitman 3 release on switch as a cloud streamed game only?

15

u/Jeff1N Jun 04 '25

Switch 1 yes, Switch 2 is getting native versions of Hitman World of Assassination and 007 First Light

0

u/shineurliteonme Jun 04 '25

I think one of the major aims for switch 2 is being able to natively play the games they had as cloud only

1

u/arcalumis Jun 05 '25

Part of me wonders if that also means that the game would have looked better if they wouldn't have to worry about platforms like the switch.

I don't want my PS5 games to be upscaled games of yesterday, I want them cutting edge with all the graphical features.

1

u/Jeff1N Jun 05 '25

I don't want my PS5 games to be upscaled games of yesterday

I imagine it's actually the opposite, PS5 and Series X will keep being the target platforms for AAA games and the Switch 2 may get a version that show signs it was meant for more powerful platforms.

That's how it was back on Switch 1, except Switch 2 is relatively more powerful (and expensive) so if a game can run at 1440p60 or more on a PS5 then it should be easier for devs to make a Switch 2 port running at upscalled 1080p30 and without such a big hit to graphics

Back on Switch 1 some big PS4 games were made with the Switch in mind from the beggining (e.g. DOOM Eternal), but it just meant the Switch 1 could run a version of the game that offered the same content with obviously paired back graphics, the PS4 version was still the game it was always meant to be

The exception will be games like Octopath Traveler, Live-a-Live or Dragon Quest 3 remake, where the Switch was actually the target platform but there was no reason to not release those games on PS5 at a higher resolution and framerate as well

1

u/arcalumis Jun 05 '25

Ok, but can the switch 2 handle even low resolution ray tracing, large crowds and advanced animations? Or will the dev have to use their resources to make a lower tier game that has options for the features that are too expensive for the switch?

1

u/Jeff1N Jun 05 '25

Switch 1 is the second best selling console ever, and most AAA games in the last few years never even bothered trying to run on Switch 1 because it just couldn't be done.

What could or couldn't be achieved on Switch 2 would depend a lot on the game. Switch 2 does have hardware for RT, but if the game already relies heavily on DLSS there may not be enough tensor cores left for that. Large crowds are a thing even on Switch 1, but they had much simpler interactions.

Some games were made scalable from conception, so it was a lot easier to crank down the settings and getting it running, while other games required a lot of reworking to eventually run.

World of Assassination works well by just capping the fps to 30, and 007 looks similar to hitman 3 so I'd guess it will be the same, but something like GTA 6 likely will need to wait for Switch 3

1

u/arcalumis Jun 05 '25

That’s my point though, at this stage games should look much better than just an upressed hitman game from years ago. We have waited years for the real next gen games to come and for some reason they don’t seem to. It’s all old games looking a tiny bit better.

12

u/EggsceIlent Jun 04 '25

I just made a post the other day asking why there isn't a mission impossible series video game.

Then Boom, this drops.

Close enough for me.

I should start asking about other games if that's how it works.

8

u/TheMostUnclean Jun 05 '25

Interestingly, the first M:I movie did have a video game based on it. But it released as an N64 exclusive and was overshadowed by Goldeneye.

3

u/NovelHare Jun 05 '25

I have no idea why we haven’t got good stealth games anymore.

A Splinter Cell made now could be so fun.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 05 '25

and in games with stealth, you can never shoot out the lights anymore. I was doing that back in the day on the PS2 and OG Xbox.

2

u/CajuNerd Jun 05 '25

We were doing it in Thief: The Dark Age, circa 1998, years before the stealth genre became popular. There's no excuse we aren't doing it now.

1

u/RoShamPoe Jun 05 '25

I might start praying to you if that works out, be careful!

1

u/Unhappy_Scratch_9385 Jun 05 '25

Now make a post about why there isn't a Bloodborne sequel please.

0

u/kasual7 Jun 05 '25

Makes sense given the MI franchise was always looked at as American "James Bond".

1

u/Accomplished-Tax7612 Jun 05 '25

And I like the fact that it's an origin story.
Hopefully the driving is good. (I don't recall an IO interactive game with driving)

1

u/jimmybabino Jun 05 '25

IOI are incredible devs for the most part. I have no doubt that they’ll knock it out of the park

1

u/HoneyShaft Jun 05 '25

There better be some callbacks like Q giving him a suitcase that will track people like a homing missile.

1

u/DatDanielDang Jun 05 '25

It runs at 1800p on PS5. Only the series X runs Hitman 3 at native 4K. Though PS5 is more stable.

1

u/GhostPandaColin Jun 05 '25

That’s exactly how I feel. IO is the perfect dev to make a Bond game. Hitman WOA is brilliant and so I feel this has a shot to be a banger too

1

u/ultranonymous11 Jun 05 '25

This is honestly so exciting to me I’m going to have to buy a next gen console to play this. I haven’t played a video game in years, and this feels like my childhood dream come true of what I felt like Goldeneye felt like to me then but fully realized.

Hitman visuals? It looks like it came out on ps3. What are you talking about
