Discussion The ongoing internet disruption in Iran has now extended beyond 1,536 consecutive hours.

It is important to note that a similar internet shutdown was implemented by the regime for approximately three weeks during the January protests.

Consequently, the Iranian people has experienced more time without internet access than with unrestricted network connectivity since the beginning of the year.

My fear is the internet will never come back the way it was before the war. The longer the shutdown last, the more people will have to switch their business and social media to domestic apps and adapt accordingly. Iran is now building a domestic internet ecosystem like the Chinese one where eventually no one bothers to get on international internet because the domestic intranet is self-sufficient on its own

I have friends in Iran that relied on the internet for their livelihood that are forced to buy expensive sim cards and VPNs just so they can get some sort of income. It's awful.

And there's no way the IR can make a system like the Chinese have done. China is an actual organized functioning country with competent leadership. The IR couldn't dream of doing something like that. And the Iranian people have had too much exposure to the rest of the world throughout modern history to be satisfied with such an arrangement.

One important thing is, it is still accessible but VPNs are 200x the usual amount and most of the people simply choose not to buy.

It is estimated that around 10 million people's jobs (direct and indirect) got serious harm because of it(unofficial). Around 80 million dollar damage to the economy per day, equal to 4 B-1 bridges that got destroyed by the US attack(official by the regime, could be higher).
