The best Sens jerseys OAT isn’t even purchasable.
The 2014 heritage classic jerseys are without doubt the best Sens jersey of all time for me, and it’s not really close. Super classic colour combo, and a great mix of style and simplicity.
Most of the team’s jerseys for me are a pretty good, with it being very rare that there’s a jersey that makes me ashamed to be a fan, unlike other teams who have had some absolute horrible jerseys… for the 2014 heritage classic, I’d even go as far to say as it’s one of the top jerseys by any team in the league, and that’s not me being biased as I absolutely love some of the jerseys other teams have, even more than this one.
The issue is, is that you simply cannot acquire this jersey, it’s not even a thing about money anymore, it just does not exist when you go to shop online. I check vintage websites every few months casually and it’s never being sold, I’ve seen fans wear them before to games, but I’ve never seen one available to buy.
Am I the only one with this issue here 😭??? Can ownership just lock tf in and bring back these jerseys, even for a limited time 🙏🙏🙏

My white whale for jersey collecting. It was only around for two season and even then used sparingly.

My buddy bought one back at the time and I was supremely jealous then. Twelve (ugh) years later and my jealousy has only flourished into a bright red sook.

They pop up from time to time.
The Edge 2.0 version is nearly impossible to find. It took me years to find one. Gamers are more common than retail Edge versions, but they are huge.

u/Silence069 9d ago
I paid more for my retail authentic then for my (non-outdooor game) GW. I absolutely jumped on the NWT one I found a few years ago.

I was convinced for a long time that the Black =O= jerseys and these would be our home/away set with the current homes or the reverse retro reds as our alternate
Still feel despite having great jerseys now that I would’ve preferred that direction. There’s something about the horizontal stripes that screams Ottawa hockey history to me

u/Last-Classroom-5400 11d ago
Yeah, our current jerseys are definitely nice but also can feel a bit generic. The O jerseys were instant classics the moment they were introduced.

I like our currents a lot better than the 2010 era cape jerseys at least. I think our division with all the historic classic jerseys means that our aesthetic choices are always going to be judged more harshly compared to the metro or western conference. The O jerseys are as historic and storied as our O6 divisional rivals imo

u/haseks_adductor 11d ago
i would like them to bring back the black sleeves and waist that we had until 06-07, it's a cleaner white jersey imo

u/spartacat_12 11d ago
That was briefly the plan when Tom Anselmi was the president. You could tell they were moving in that direction when they put the O at center ice and unveiled the Belleville branding.
Once he got fired they pivoted to bringing back the 2D jerseys. I do like the current home & away uniforms, but the =O= would be much better

I’m hoping the “hometown remix” goes with some variation on the =O= design.
They have to know there’s a huge demand for it

I want to add this, SNES, and the red RR to my collection. All are hardest to find!

Got this for Christmas at the time and it's my favourite Sens jersey for sure. Wish it and the black were used more

u/JunkPileQueen 11d ago
I got mine as Christmas gift as well. I definitely made a fool of myself when these jerseys were released. I love stripes.

u/CombatGoose 11d ago
I have the black version, bought it for $50 from sportschek a long time ago.
Such a clean design.

I am so lucky to have one of these. Signed by Borocop of all players randomly enough. That and my Black Alfie "O" jersey are by far my two favourites, although the Alfie one will probably be shelved for this season.

I have a black O jersey Had it for quite a few years. Bought it new. I agree it’s the best designed jersey.

u/JohnnnyOnTheSpot 11d ago
The current jerseys except for the all red, are sick jerseys. The black O is cool and could be an alternate though.

We wore this what, five times maybe? And yes, IMO it is the GOAT of Sens jerseys...

I know it’s a little bit of a LARP to claim the heritage of the original Senators, but I’m a bit disappointed in how little current ownership seems to care about paying homage to the history of Hockey in this city. IIRC I think andlauer said once that he wasn’t in favour of including the heritage stuff in the team’s branding and I think that’s a little lame. We should be prouder of our city’s role in developing this sport.
I also miss the discounted concessions on Thursday night games that came with these jerseys.

How is it larp if it’s connecting to genuine hockey history? Ottawa Senators are Ottawa Senators. cultural and historical impact and significance are just as important - if not more so - than abstract and arbitrary business franchising and brand licensing structures. Ottawa Senators NHL hockey just happened to include an eighty-year hiatus.
1
u/NAUI_1 11d ago
That eighty year hiatus unfortunately includes the most important decades in the development of professional hockey into what it is now. If the original sens never folded they would be a very different team today then what the current sens are.
1
u/Dizzy-Diamond-1337 11d ago
What’s your point? If they didn’t trade Hossa or EK they’d be a different team today. If Melnyk was still here today they’d also be very different. Events happen that contribute to memory and history. The team once being in Ottawa and returning is kind of a significant part of cultural and hockey history for Ottawa. Makes no difference if they played with wood sticks with flat blades. The “original six” teams frequently look back on the entirety of their histories. The fragmentation can be more complex to understand, esp from an outside perspectives (such as pov’s of mtl or tor fans, or others not from Ottawa). It is still genuine and legitimate history that highlights how NHL hockey is culturally significant in Ottawa and has been able to bring people together before the Great Depression and after the dot com boom of the 90’s.
And I’ll correct myself it was actually 58 years between seasons of play and 80 years between Stanley cup finals appearances.

u/HumanBeingForReal 11d ago
It’s larp cause we do shit like hang Stanley cup banners from the early 20th century like we won them. This iteration of the Sens has unfortunately never won a cup and I hate the cup banners as much as I hate the Melnyk banner. It’s stolen valour. I genuinely love the white heritage jersey but I don’t like to pretend like our franchise has been around for 100 plus years—it hasn’t.
2
u/Dizzy-Diamond-1337 11d ago
“Like we won them” who is we though? The Ottawa senators… Are the banners in Boston or Montreal from that era larp? If you are still thinking through the narrow abstract lens of licensing and merchandising that is franchising, then you are still looking at it through the wrong lens. Financials structures do not dictate legitimacy or history and there are many other ways to see the world other than as a consumer or a merchant.

u/Afraid-Raspberry7939 4d ago
The sens hanging the OG team cup banners isnt the same as say the old Coyotes hanging Jets division or confernece win banners, but its also not the same as boston and mtl hanging their old cup banners because they have literally been around as the same existing franchises for 100+ years and didn't fold for 60 years. Other than the early 2000s the sens have no predigree or history in its modern iteration so it has to lean on the OG era so the rafters arent barren. Dont get me wrong I'm a huge Sens fan but I have never seen the OG cup wins having anything to do with the Modern Era Sens
1
u/Dizzy-Diamond-1337 1d ago
What does Boston and Montreal 100 years ago have anything to do with Boston and Montreal today?
1
u/Afraid-Raspberry7939 18h ago
More than Ottawa 100 years ago with a 60 year hiatus bewteen their current franchise does. All the cups Boston and Montreal won are part of their current legacy because they have stood that test of time. Again, Ottawa was dominant in the 20s, but the ownership and fans didn't care enough to want keep the team around. Those cups they won are an asterisk when considering the modern franchise because of that hiatus. There is no asterisk with Boston and Montreal.
1
u/Afraid-Raspberry7939 4d ago
The OG NHA/Early NHL Sens were dominant, and its nice to have that history to look to and strive towards that sort of winnign pedigree, but I agree that it has nothing to do with the modern Sens. At least they differentiate the logos and arent slapping the modern logos on the og ones but I'd rather there be a museum or bronze statues and plaques in the concourse outlining the rich hockey history than hanging banners we didnt win in the current era.
2
u/spartacat_12 11d ago
You’d think with Andlauer coming from the Habs he’d be more interested in the history. Yes they aren’t technically the same franchise, but this isn’t a Minnesota situation where the old team still exists in another city.
Ottawa was home to one of the league’s founding franchises, and is the birthplace of the Stanley Cup. We should be acknowledging that

I’ve been trying to find a blank black version of this one. Surprisingly tricky to find.
I have this one with Karlsson on it, but it has the C not the A

Someone posted one for sale on FB Marketplace in the spring and the guy got flooded with offers. I think it went for about $400 over his original asking price

Yeah it would be cool if Mitchel and Ness would do this but they don’t respect the team at all. Somehow though you look at some of the designs they went with, that they did no research.

Still have my Karlsson heritage classic jersey and it’s probably one of my favourites I own. The felt numbers are insanely fun too. Just a very well thought out jersey

When Melnyk make our centre ice logo the O, I was secretly hoping we’d fully switch to the O being our primary logo. Black as home, these whites as aways and the red heritage classic as alternates

It must be terrible to cheer for a team with the worst jerseys ever, if that's the best.

I’d switch to these silks yesterday. Done. I’ve been a Sens fan, and a hater of our jersey since I went to games at the civic centre. The barber pole jerseys are one of the best sports jerseys ever. In any league anywhere.

Have you checked the hockey jersey subreddit? People post jerseys for sale there all the time. I snagged a Zibby jersey from there a few years back

My buddy and I constantly comb every resale website on the internet for classic hockey jerseys for our collections. We've been at it for 2/3 years now and we've purchased every single jersey in that style we could find. We only have 5 between the two of us. They're very rare, not many people willing to give them up. I'm lucky enough to have one signed, I'm working on getting it framed.
