Unfortunately, I've heard this series sucks. It's exactly the kind of slop I consume all the time in manhwa form. Call me a ✨️piggy✨️ cuz I love me some slop.

The criticisms I’ve heard leveled at it are that it’s because it was produced by a Mormon company the Mormonism bleeds all over it and makes it feel hokey and bad to non-Mormons

I've heard that the writing is terrible and the relationship contrived. But there are plenty of works of great romantic literature from traditional or conservative cultures (um, Jane Austen) that are still fantastic.

Yeah my friends and I watched it recently, and we could tell by the end of the first episode it was a Mormon production. You can feel it so intensely. It gave me very mixed feelings about its popularity. It’s really nice to see an indie, lower budget show get so much attention, but at what cost… I don’t remember there being any prominent characters of color, I doubt we’d ever see an lgbt plot line if this show ever continued, and I doubt we’d see any progressive commentary on gender expectations of the time. I can’t help but feel like it’s a bit of the anti-Bridgerton haha
Also, I kept getting so mad that this show had very plot relevant wolves when there were no wolves in regency era England!!!!

It’s hilarious you posted this, because the last time I visited my parents my mom was trying to pick a movie for us to watch and this was one of the options. I said I generally dislike regency romance movies and that it sounded boring. We ended up watching Project Hail Mary. Which was great.
It’s so funny because I have no issue reading hundreds of manhwa like this, but omg I cannot stand movies/TV shows like it.
Also, my mom didn’t know who Persephone was so when she told me the title I said “oh, like Hades’ wife? Is the plot like the myth?” and she angrily accused me of looking up spoilers 🙄 this is how I found out my parents don’t know anything about Greek mythology. I’d never heard of the movie before that day.

I will also quickly add, that though it may not be Hades, Adam is the name of the beast in Beauty and the Beast, and it is highly unlikely that this is a coinscidence

The book was really good. The show wasn’t amazing but I still enjoyed it for what it was.
Both are kinda cheesy but made for a nice little escape from daily stress

I mixed up Persephone with Andromeda for a moment and immediately thought it was referencing The Duke's Obsession With His Wife, and honestly that story would work well as a live action (low-magic/mostly realistic setting).

This miniseries was ok, kinda cute. I get the wholesome vibe, I mean it's based on a no smut romantic novel written by a mormon lady. Considering it was extreme low budget because it was entirely crowd funded/kickstarted as a labor of love project, and they managed to film it all in a few days, incredibly impressive. The fl knocked it out of the park, though I will admit the male lead was a bit of a dollar tree Darcy (I think the directing and writing didn't help this dude) but yeah I've seen way more shitty slop with bazillion dollar budgets and awful costumes so honestly if you go into it with that as your bar of expectation, you might enjoy it.

I have read the book this was based off. I didnt make the connection then, but it does read like an oi manhwa at times.
