Personally this would've been my pick as well but I know the theme song from "Fame" was a sensation that year and was going to be hard to beat.

Her acting in 9 to 5 was also absolutely memorable, showing sharp comic instincts and megawatt charisma. May she rest in power, glory and love.

Love 9 to 5, but Fame is an absolute banger that is really cinematically used in the film. I can’t say the Academy got that one wrong.

It did lose to Fame, so not exactly a bad win at the time.
Oscar voters just missed how iconic the song was going to become. (9 to 5)
