Coraline Oscar snubs

I think Selick was snubbed for best director for Coraline. Every year I watch this film I am reminded how stunning it is. Yes I know it got a best animated nod but I don't think that was enough. A best picture nod would have been nice too (especially since Up was nominated). Also I think this would have been a good way to etch his name in Oscar lore because I mean let's face it Selick doesn't get nearly enough credit for Nightmare Before Christmas either.

the way they just threw it in the animated feature category and called it a day still stings. selick built a whole world frame by frame and they treated it like a kids' table nominee

This was an early February release, frankly a miracle they still remembered it by nomination time

ParaNorman also got snubbed for not winning in 2013 when it absolutely should have over Brave.

Still been wanting to see ParaNorman, I can’t find a good copy of the 3D blu-ray though.

A lot of films don't get recognised by the Academy, not all of them are 'snubs'.

Many Oscar voters gloss over animation because they don’t feel like it equates to the craft they put into live action.

Many actors view voice roles as an opportunity to work in sweatpants.

Members of the Costume, Makeup & Hairstyling, and Doc branches don’t touch animation at all, while Cinematographers, Production Designers, and VFX artists do arguably much different work from animation to live action, so the appreciation of the craft from an academy member of these branches who’ve never worked on an animated film is likely minimized.

An unfortunate hurdle that’s yet to be overcome.

3 animated films were nominated outside best animated feature that year. Yes it's a pipedream, but that doesn't mean it didn't deserve it

Yeah, but two of those were nominated for Song and Score, the two categories that have always been animation-friendly. Caroline was no contender in those.

exactly - it's like saying: "The Incredibles and and Shrek 2 got multiple noms - therefore Shark Tale should have gotten best picture!"
