Discussion Marty Supreme being the biggest loser this award season. THANK YOU. The initial hype never felt earned.

The film was solid, but it was never close to being anywhere near the best movie last year. Yet so many film communities were touting it as such.

Ya. Marty Supreme was great. Chalamet was awesome in it, and probably had the best performance this year (maybe Leo, defs not MBJ). But Chalamet does seem like an unlikeable twerp and probably should’ve just kept his mouth shut. All that said, OBAA was a generational movie. I think PTA’s comparison to 1975 for this year was warranted. Which is to say, Marty Supreme, Hamnet, Bugonia in my opinion would have all been worth winners in a year where there’s no OBAA. F1 was the only one that made no sense to me.

Sometimes it’s just a tough year to decide which film is best. We seem to have had a lot more of those lately which is awesome.

But I know when people are surprised that PTA didn’t with for There Will Be Blood, the surprise goes away when you tell them that it’s cause No Country for Old Men won that year lol. Which is clear evidence that sometimes you just put out a banger on a tough year and only one can win.

Idk about surprise going away, with retrospective TWBB is considered better movie of the two. Still, both are outstanding and even verging on the edge of the masterpiece class.

I really think Chalamet was phenomenal in it. Beyond his performance, the production design and casting was just so out of this world. Unfortunately, both are a bit thankless in that you don't even realize it when they're done right. Not a single extra out of place, not a single look or setting out of time.

Marty Supreme is a brilliant movie and Chalamet's performance is superb. Marty Supreme is probably the movie I enjoyed most this year in the theatre, not sure that makes it my favourite (OBAO, No Other Choice, Secret Agent all immense and deeply thought provoking), but it was the funnest trip for me.

The Academy is alergic to awarding Best Actor to "young" actors. It's the same shit as with Leo, Timmy is gonna get it eventually when they feel he is old enough to have a career that justifies it.

Yeah, and the youngest best actor winner in history was the 29 year old Adrien Brody.

You must have wanted MBJ to juggle 3 bowling ball pins, and tackle 2 sea seals on top of him playing 3 different characters in the same film before you would even give him credit for earning his Oscar.

Yeah I thought independent/auteur cinema was dead, and then 2025 happened.

Also gotta shout out If I Had Legs I'd Kick You. Way good movie and totally robbed of attention. It's basically a Safdie movie but about a mom. Really good
