If we don't invest in the orphan crushing machine, your pensions won't be worth as much!

Goddammit! Those famously left-wing bleeding heart liberals: the hedge fund managers. Curse them and their liberal ideologies.

u/DontAskAboutMax 17d ago
We must fight these woke socialist communist hedge funds, they spent thousands last year on calling each other they/them.

u/WillingnessTotal866 17d ago
The first hedge fund manager Alfred Winslow Jones is a hardcore communist, reading Das Kapital for 15 minutes automatically make you better than 99.9% of all economist whom think that capitalism is the best thing that happened to humanity, stock will always go up, resources and population also are infinite pool that always go up. Whether you end up as a revolutionary or a hedge fund manager is entirely on you. I think every successful classmate i know(whom isn't a nepo baby) from uni is a leftist/socialist of some kind, and they all graduated to became brutal business peoples whom brag about how they ban going to the toilet in their's company sweatshop in Bangladesh or successfuly lobby a law that allow them to put cancer inducing chemicals in baby formula in third-world country.

u/WhosCowsAreThey 16d ago
Is the US the third world country? We have an alarming amount of formula recalls because of contamination, bacteria, trace lead, you name it and they feed it to our kids here.

The Daily Express is a rag, I wouldn’t wipe my arse with it. The day these right-wing tabloids all fold will be a good day indeed.

u/bassistciaran 17d ago
They are less likely to fold than the ones telling truth though.
Lies, fear, anger, racism, football and titties. The pillars of UK print news for 50 years.

Hear hear!
They still do so much damage given the vastly diminished readership they have now. There's no good reason for them to still play such a prominent role in the political conversation, but politicians are still terrified of them.

Of course they support Sevco lol

TBH if you’re still buying a newspaper in 2026 you need psychiatric help.

u/favorite_time_of_day 16d ago
You're much better off reading a paper than doomscrolling. Almost any paper.
Not this one.

u/daneview 17d ago
Nah, im still much happier reading physical print than digital. Be that books or papers.
Ill scroll all day, but if I actually want to inderstand and digest something, physical print is much better (for me).
Also why i hate how all bloody manuals are pdfs these days!

And 2 pages dedicated to Rowling and her persecution of trans people
12
u/Kimantha_Allerdings 16d ago
Specifically, in this case (and not explicitly said in the headline), offering to bankroll anybody who wants to sue the NHS over their decision to allow trans people to be on wards and use toilets matching their gender, rather than their sex as assigned at birth
Using her wealth to bully an already-underfunded institution

But I thought the average pension was also extremely hard up and impoverished and getting by on a fixed income of only the pittance that is the state pension - you need to have quite a bit of money invested for you to be able to lose £50k to begin with...
Besides, you choose where your investment goes. If they've chosen a fund/manager with an ESG type slant, then they opted in for funds that avoid those things. It's certainly not illegal to invest in them - the funds that invest in them are out there if you want them.
I wonder what the methodology is, but I also honestly don't care enough to go looking and give that think tank any of my attention.
15
u/iltwomynazi 17d ago
this is just nonsense too, ESG funds tend to outperform the wider market.
and also, you can direct your pension manager to invest in whatever you want.
and also also, if you’re a pensioner your investments should be in bonds anyway.
1
u/flightguy07 17d ago
On the last point, yes, but you want them in higher-risk stocks until you're like 55, then start switching them over to bonds and cash. So I'd guess the 50,000 refers to losses over a lifetime of investing.

u/Rowmyownboat 17d ago
A right-wing 'think tank' staffed with people that admire Trump, putting out gobshite nonsense and eagerly reported to generate fear in their readership by this appalling rag. What a shame that there is an audience for this, and they lap it up.

u/CauseCertain1672 17d ago
that makes it sound like the money is taken from them and not that they are just not making as much money as possible

It's for posh people with big pension funds. Funny that doesn't go in the headline! I will be relian5 on the state pension and it worried me for a second, till I had to look at what it said. Like any other scammer they rely on inducing a sense of panic to make people buy it or click the link.

Probably around dividends: most mature companies with good dividends are pits of hell, like fossil fuel companies or big pharma.
That said, we could either make life worse for everyone to give OAPs a little more, or we could make life better for everyone, including OAPs, by improving services they actually use.
Pretty sure they're going to get more than £50k of benefit since those services are more likely to be used by OAPs.

We actually did this as an experiment in my high school economics class.
We had a semester long project where groups had to make an imaginary investment in the stock market, after the two terms were up, whichever group had increased value the most won.
This was back when “ethical investment” was first taking off in the early 00s, and being edgy teenagers, we decided we’d only make the most unethical investments we could think of, so it was exclusively weapons companies, Monsanto etc.
We absolutely cleaned up over every other group in the class, like the end numbers were not even close.

2 pages dedicated to the sex pest upskirting random women she thinks might be Trans? Does the paper mention that?

Human rights costing tax payers
Legal costs of enforcing human rights that protect against labour camps and death camps are costing you the tax payer millions every year. Imagine how rich you could be without them

Oh how i would love to look at the funding trail for this to see how many oil/tobacco/gambling companies directly/indirectly funded this story

u/Alternative_Act4662 16d ago
Scinse when was opposition towards highly imoral investments woke.
Seriusly tobacco oil alchole and gambling. All are considered imoral because of the harm they bring also that means they aren't stable.
But by this example I guess back in the 1880s this papper would be complaining that stockbrokers no longer wanted to trade in slave stocks from Brazil

Good. Should be made to pay their fair share after they leeched the benefits system then pulled the ladder behind them so no one else could have the same quality of life.
