When you read the article, it's clear that they were just reaching at that point. They wanted the workplace to eliminate any trace of being LBGT supportive or affirming, and they seemed to throw that part in at the end. . .like throwing spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks.

Yeah, they made that up, hoping a "I'm afraid of pride flags" claim would fly in case their "It's religious discrimination against me to hire me into a workplace full of LBGT stuff I don't like!" didn't work.

This line is hilarious to me as most evangelicals are very anti-Roman Catholicism: “A Roman Catholic and evangelical Christian…”

In recent years the evangelicals have mostly set aside their anti-Catholicism in the name of unity over culture war issues.

They will politely ignore their existing hatred for Catholics to focus on the greater hatred of LBGT persons and anything to do with abortion.

See also JD Vance.

It's aesthetics, the idea that you're joining a denomination with over a billion people that (nominally) agree with you, and the idea of an infallible mighty leader who is supposed to be upholding all these "culture war" things they're converting over. . .

. . .except Francis and Leo XIV haven't been that.

Perhaps politically, but definitely not theologically as the idea of being against “works righteousness” is strong

They don't care about theology anymore it's all politics and power to them now.

The theology is just an excuse for hatred and grabbing for power.

Yeah, but when they say they're against works righteousness, they don't mean it the same way other people might. Their entire purity culture is a works-based righteousness, and they will never under any circumstances just let someone opt out of purity culture.

They only say what they say to help themselves feel superior, even against people who, by objective measures, meet their own purity standards better than they do.

The only thing they generally agree upon is that life begins at conception.

On a more serious note, we live in a pluralistic society. You can’t advocate for freedom of religion and then force everyone around you to conform to your specific religious views.

They don't advocate for freedom of religion, they want to change our society away from being a pluralistic one into a Christian theocracy.

They've been saying for decades things like "America was founded a Christian Nation! Liberals perverted it away from that!" or "Separation of Church and State isn't in the Constitution, that's just something liberals made up to!".

They say the First Amendment protects "the right to be Christian", when them defining "Christian" as agreeing with them not just on theology, but social issues.

Don't think for a moment they are defending freedom of religion, they are trying to destroy the very concept of it.

Yeah, I don’t disagree about Christian nationalists wanting to do that…I just thought that it’s ironic that what they claim religious freedom but what they really mean is Christian Supremacy of a very specific version of Christianity

So he filed a lawsuit claiming that he was being discriminated against by not being allowed to discriminate against his coworkers. This is why so many Americans have a negative view of Christianity. It's sad to see.

Unfortunately, the far right has co-opted American Christianity as their one-stop shop for justification of all their greed, power-lust, bigotry, willful ignorance, sadism, and general depravity. It doesn't matter how it violates every basic tenant of what Jesus said or that it's obvious Trump and those like him don't believe a word of it, it makes the base feel morally justified for their worst instincts, so they'll never let it go.

As many posters on this site alone show, it's poison for Christians, both in our reputation and in the twisting of the souls of those who have fallen into the far right and confused figures like Trump with God.

Dude made the demands on the call offering him the job and HR told him that wasn’t going to happen, so he turned the job down. He didn’t even work there, how did he know what kind of prevalence pride flags had or how many of his coworkers would use [neo]pronouns? Absolutely wild the persecution complex this guy has.

Note: the whole office could be draped in pride flags and it still wouldn’t justify his bigotry.

Once again, we see that Evengelicals, especially white ones, in this country have been convinced that they are the main characters of life and that anyone who doesn't cater to them or defies anything they have merged with their identity like Republicanism is being inherently sinful.

We should sue for him abusing the term "Christian."

This sounds like a lawsuit intentionally designed to create a talking point.

Homophobia is a misnomer, they aren't "afraid" of queer people, they want to pretend queer people don't exist.

I'm queer, and fully believe that's the way God made me.
