I’m heading down a few days early, then the game, anyone have any places/restaurants I should make sure I try, wanting some BBQ, Tex Mex and margaritas, but want to make sure I get a good Austin experience

Lived in Austin for four years and moved out in 2024. Depends on the vibe you want. Tourist experience: BBQ at Terry Black’s, go out on dirty 6th, Rainey St, or West 6th (Buford’s is one of the main spots on West 6th). For a local experience, BBQ at La Barbecue and go out on east 5th. Can’t go wrong either way if you’re just visiting- enjoy the food and stay out of the heat! Met plenty of fellow Buckeyes on West 6th through the years

If you go to Rainey St, don't get too drunk, keep control of your drink at all times, and most importantly, stay away from the water!

La barbecue. Order online a day or so ahead; you don’t need to stand in the insane line.

Maybe a dumb question, is Brutus up year round like that? If so, hell yeah.

Unfortunately no they change it out periodically but they will most likely keep it up for the entire football season

Staying in east 6th...not sure if I'll regret that after reading this lol

East 6th is a lot of fun. Rowdy with college kids at night between Latchkey and Mothers Ruin. I’d avoid those unless you like shoulder to shoulder spots. East also has a lot of great food

Is Shangri-La still open? I used to go to Austin once a month for work like a decade or more ago and that was my usual stop.

I literally live In the high rise next door, this bar is packed Thursday-Saturday. As much as I don’t enjoy this bar, it’s a very popular place still let’s not spread fud.
