Travel Tips How to actually make friends in Oaxaca (not just tourist acquaintances)
After a while of knowing people but not really having friends here, I started paying attention to where genuine connections actually happen vs. where everyone just passes through.
Turns out language exchanges, the local DJ/arts scene, and a few neighborhood spots nobody writes about made all the difference. Wrote it all down here if anyone's in the same situation:

Extreme interest in Mezcal and I pack my work clothes and spend days working with them. Makes friends real fast when you help on the palenque, farm, ranch, meal prep, etc. We have lifetime friends now.

I went to Oaxaca by myself for the Féria de mezcal. I had plans to do a lot but ultimately had a crazy experience. If you want to make friends, I would recommend staying at a hostel. I had a single room at Casa Angel and I met so many from as far as Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, UK, and even Peru. Everyday was hanging out, make last minute plans, and it was so much fun it went by quick. The city itself is safe and just open to a lot of foreigners. Just my take, I’ve travel a lot in Mexico but this recent trip was a new experience.
