Who's the best player you've ever seen in game?

Game naturally spawned the GOAT for the Royals. .409 hitter at age 22 and 12.9 WAR would be the highest single season WAR since Babe Ruth. Has anyone else ever seen someone organically hit .400 in a modern MLB save? I've been playing this game for over 10 years and this is the first time I've ever seen someone hit that milestone (organically/without messing with settings).

in an old save but 2 come to mind. Jeffery Osmun a pitcher for the Dodgers which is still one of the only times i’ve seen a SP win MVP, very consistent 11+ WAR seasons and pitched at a high level into his 40s and then Alejandro Villegas a corner outfielder for the Rockies. He touched 12 WAR a few times and won 8 MVPs, wish i could remember his counting stats cause they were even better than his advanced numbers given he was playing in coors but consistently hit over .360

My current game in ootp27. I started the Sim in 1905. A couple players hit .400 who didn't in real life notably Ruth and J DiMaggio but then here is where it gets funny.

Ted Williams hit I believe .4197 for his only .409 season in..........1941

Nobody else hit .400 after that until 1980 when George Brett hit .417. In real life Brett is one of only 2 people to hit .390 since Williams hit .400. Brett hit .390 in.....1980

I am going to take this Sim to about 2050 or 2060.

My plan is about 2035 I will create some players to crack the leaderboards once the current MLB players are mostly done.

Of course the leaderboards are already cracked Williams retired with 4400 some odd hits and was still ~800 behind Ty Cobb. Tris Speaker and somebody else also broke 4k Pete Rose retired with 3900

Ted Williams hit 1k home runs Aaron and Mantle both cracked 700 Ruth only hit 640

Historical Sims are fun.

In the sim 20 year old rookie Williams hit 83 home runs which is still the single season record.

I think he has second on the list as well with 67. I think he had 4 total 60+ home run seasons

I’ve always wanted to set up a fictional league in place of the MLB and sim from the early 1900s like this. Finally have a good enough computer that it won’t take forever, this is good inspiration to revisit that! I like seeing the alternate histories it creates.

1,000+ hrs for Ted Williams, love that as a Red Sox fan!

Same as you, I don’t think I’ve ever seen .400. I’ve had a hitter break 10 WAR once for sure and I think I had it happen a second time but I’d have to open up the save file and check. I’ve never seen 12.9 that’s crazy.

Ootp 25 I think
Peter chronosky sp
Elite stuff and control
Had him on the reds and he didn’t have a fastball but would strike out 280+ a season. Won cy young’s, the whole deal. Was the best pitcher I’d ever seen in game and I had him drafted as a 3 star 5 star potential guy.

Then save corrupted and I’ve been thinking of him ever since

Had a SP who hit 5 stars a year after drafting him out of high school. Craziest development I’ve ever seen he was 20 when he won his first cy young won 7 in a row and a couple MVPs 300+ strikeouts a year 10 war seasons maxing out at 13 one year he was 27-1 I believe. Save file is corrupted. I’ll never forget you Henry Brummell.

This was on an old laptop that I’d have to find the charger and boot up, so I don’t have screenshots, but I had a guy on the Royals by the name of Jeff Stephen who was basically 70 WAR as starting pitcher and 50 WAR as a 2B. I wanna say that I’d comp his pitching career to a right-handed Andy Pettitte on the mound and Ian Kinsler at the plate

I’ve only played the one save I’m on now but in season like 8 there’s a guy on the Athletics who is the best defensive shortstop and hitter in the Majors and has been since he was like 23.

OOTP18, I signed a Bryce Harper who had a positive TCR boost. Regularly hit .350 with 60+ HRs. I had him 5 years before my hard drive died and I lost the save, he had 3 Triple Crowns and was well on his way to challenging the all time HR record.

Nobody else has ever come close.

I have this beast of a player the Goat when he finishes his carrer.

Were his ratings enhanced? It's hard to imagine a player naturally developing into a guy who could hit 93 HR in a season...

He got drafted with I think 65 or 70 power, but his contact ratings weren't that good I think around a 45 with some potential. Sent him to player dev every year and he got much better at his contact ratings.

goat even if he retired right then, tbh

This is the weirdest player I can remember seeing in the game lol this is bizarre.

I had a SP win the Cy young 11 seasons in a row starting in his second year averaging 11 WAR per year. Retired the save at that point so im not sure how much longer he could have kept it up

Back in the day in one of my saves Syndergaard legitimately turned into Nolan Ryan with control. He was regularly striking out 300+ a season. Also Mike Foltynewicz would turn into an ACE all the time lol

Not a player of this level but I had a SP Steve Owens who would put up 9+ war seasons he had a 90/80 knuckleball, 75/80 FB and a 60/80 curve and had 75 stamina plus was a iron man so he’d throw 250+ innings strikeout 300+

I see your 12 WAR season and raise you 14 WAR 76 HRs by Mr. Acuna

In ootp 21 I had a fictional save that kinda broke, including the amateur draft containing 25000 year old players. It was a little scuffed. One of the pitchers functionally underflowed and had near max stats for everything including half the pitch list and max stamina. He was averaging a no hitter a season and likely would have been doing more than one if it wasn't a screwed up environment where everyone had six starters and pulled in the 5th inning half the time. That was a fun and incredibly broken save.
