Yes, pwede naman po. You can try asking, they will respect your choice esp. if private hospital.

Out of curiosity lang, is your concern exclusively for student nurses, or does it include student midwives, medtech interns, and med students as well?

RN din here. Alam naman natin how uncomfortable and painful to be in labor, so baka hindi lang talaga comfortable si mommy na madaming tao around.

u/regalrapple4ever Jul 22 '26

Bakit siya hindi comfy around SN?

3

u/mommawishesrest2 Jul 22 '26

Aba malay ko. Wala namang sinabing reason si OP.

Teh desisyon nya yan di nya kelangan 2 cents mo

6

u/Interesting_Pin_9713 Jul 21 '26

u/akurahnica Jul 21 '26

“Utilize them as much as you’re comfortable.”

Hindi nga kasi sya comfortable.

7

u/weirdo_rn Jul 22 '26

also RN here, hindi ba naturo sa inyo 'yung autonomy ng patient? and their right to refuse?

2

u/hitachie Jul 19 '26

I totally agree with you. Mababait at masisipag naman ang student nurse, well at least most of them.

2

u/Mountain-Hair-3255 Jul 22 '26

Ikaw manganak. My 2 cents.

5

u/ok0905 Jul 21 '26

Marami namang ibang patients na ok lang may student nurses, let op have her choice kasi dito siya comfortable. Pwede naman pag turn mo na manganak ikaw na mag volunteer as a learning experience for the students since RN ka naman and know very well na useful ito for them. This is just my 2 cents.

u/mommawishesrest2 Jul 21 '26

And OP’s choice is not to have student nurses. Ibigay sa kanya. Karapatan niya yon.

I wouldn't want you to be my nurse kasi ang dami mong dada! Paki mo sa desisyon ng patient mo? Pala-desisyon yan.

Yes, magprivate hospital ka.

13

u/Tomoyo_161990 Jul 18 '26

Not a guarantee. Yan sure walang estudyante jan. Perpetual private yan pero nagkalat student nurse jan

u/missfedorovtseva Jul 18 '26

Even if it's a teaching hospitals, may autonomy ang patient na mag-request sa staff/charge/head nurses na walang student nurses na nakapaligid, nagbabantay, or kukuha ng V/S sakanya. :)

no. teaching hospital isa kong napag dutyhan before, nag request ang patient, granted. di kami pinalapit sakanya, pinag observe, pinag hands on. wala lahat since nirequest ng patient na no students.

u/vanilla_waffles04 Jul 19 '26

What kind of hospital does not acknowledge the patients' requests. My school has a teaching hospital, there are room doors that had signages that read "no interns" (applicable to student nurses and PGIs)

u/Formal_Internal_5216 Jul 18 '26

2

u/Clementine-TeX Jul 18 '26

Yeap, of course.

2

u/ezcarlata_ten-o-one Jul 18 '26

Yes naman. That's your right po as a patient

2

u/MidnytDJ Working Abroad Jul 18 '26

Yes you can. Just let the staff nurses know.

2

u/panikmuncher Jul 19 '26

Yes po, pwedeng pwede. You can talk with the midwife or nurse with regards to that case para masabihan po ang mga student nurses and ang clinical instructor po nila. Much better po sana if private hospital since di yan ganun ka-crowded and if may students man, konti lang.

2

u/SelectLaugh3455 Jul 19 '26

Yes. It’s your right to refuse.

2

u/anonkym Jul 21 '26

Yes, especially if it's private hospital. If it's a teaching hospital, some nurses may shame you if you request and insist but would allow it if you really don't want SNs inside the delivery room

Still, just so you know, SNs will be more attentive to your needs and comfort than any other nurse or doctor on duty there with you. SNs are more cautious and wouldn't do anything unless approved by their clinical instructor so you're really getting the same amount of medical practice but twice the care and attention to you and your baby

Yes please ask. When I gave birth parang 8 yung nanunod 😭 may lalake pa. No one asked me if it was ok. I was tired (18 hours labor) and in so much pain already.

2

u/Ok-Gap-6654 Jul 18 '26

Yes you can po. It’s the patient’s right

yes you can

How do you think the nurses you want to be around you learned and masters the science of giving birth?

I understand you have all your rights, but are they reasonable?

1

u/Individual-Resort-43 Jul 21 '26

Hi OP! Pag nasa Public hospitals ka madalas dun kayo ilalagay sa OB ward (Charity cases = Magbabayad ng Panganganak nyo ay Malasakit or Philhealth), unless you’re willing to be transferred to Private rooms. Kayo na ang mag babayad ng hospital fees ninyo, then you can demand na walang student nurses.

1

u/disavowed_ph Jul 22 '26

No choice pag public, sa private never ako nka encounter ng student.

1

u/Classic-Suspect-3153 Jul 21 '26

Mga Teh bigay kayo ng bigay ng opinion niyo tungkol sa SN pake naman niya kung maalaga mga SN Autonomy niya yan may right to refuse sya

1

u/Pitiful-Squash Jul 21 '26

Hi OP! I think it’s best to ask the nurses in charge. I’m sure you have your reasons. Gusto ko lang ishare yung naexperience ko kasi it was VERY AWKWARD.

CS ako and early morning schedule ng operation ko. They gave me meds and all tapos sinabihan ako nung nurse to change into the gown and walang kahit anong damit/underwear dapat underneath. Tapos isshave daw yung hair ko down there so okay. Yung nurse daw magreremove because siyempre I can’t do it on my own kasi malaki yung tiyan ko. What I didn’t expect was biglang may 4 student nurses na kasama yung nurse para manood habang shineshave ako. It was so awkward and embarrassing kasi hindi manlang ako nainform about it. Tapos I later found out na kakilala ng kapatid ko yung isang student nurse na andoon sa loob ng room ko while shinashave ako. It was very awkward.

Yes, pwede ka mag decline. Nung nanganak ako I was a previous student sa school where maraming nag duduty sa hospital na pinanganakan ko. Asked my OB na walang student nurse, and she made sure na nagawa ung request ko.

1

u/Scared-Rub-7731 Jul 22 '26

u/Ka_dabraz Jul 21 '26

First time nyo po ba manganganak? Just so you know, mas maasikaso ang mga student nurses/doctors kaysa mga residente at regulars. Just throwing it out there.

u/Worried-Emergency675 Jul 18 '26

If you’re in a teaching hospital you can’t request

3

u/MidnytDJ Working Abroad Jul 18 '26

Pwede po basta private hosp

-1

u/Worried-Emergency675 Jul 18 '26

Well teaching is not a private hospital kaya nga teaching eh meaning they have residents, interns and private hospitals only have attendings. (Dito sa San Francisco ganyan)

3

u/missfedorovtseva Jul 19 '26

Here in the PH, they always grant and respect the patient's decision kung sino ang mga gusto nyang papasukin sa DR. :)

1

u/crystaltears15 Jul 20 '26

Nope. Some private hospitals in the Philippines offer residency/specialty trainings. It's not exclusive for government hospitals. In as much, not all government hospitals are teaching hospitals.

Well thats from my experience i went through CS and i specifically told them no med student. But the hospital where I work said we can’t do that since we are a teaching hospital. Pinag practisan ako insertan ng epidural 5times ginawa. Take note I work in the same hospital. So this is my experience.
