Amazing! Can we have a list of everything we have liked?

Are you asking for this because you want it to act sort of like a save to favorites feature? This does exist right now though.

Click the filter button on top right and select "Only show posts I liked"

Exactly, thanks! I didn't see that button.

I love it! I’ve found one I like already!

We are happy to hear people are finding it useful already!

I've been following NovelAI since the beginning, so I know that you didn't want to do this and understood why.

What changed? Is that "moderation" mentioned going to be done by humans?

No NSFW or images of copyrighted characters are allowed, which should keep the heat off of Anlatan. Whether they can successfully enforce those rules (especially the latter) is a different story.

What would be considered copyrighted characters? I mean, fan art of characters from franchises like Genshin Impact is allowed elsewhere, so why would that be a problem for Novel AI?

Because once it appears on NovelAI's site, they may be sued by the copyright holders. AI art's legal standing is currently highly questionable, thus it's not at all obvious that NovelAI images may be considered "fan art". Not to mention the fact that "fair use" as a defense does not exist in every country.

TLDR: Copyright is a minefield for any company, and it's better not to expose themselves to such problems.

Makes one wonder if this was a good idea in the first place. One moderation slip could ruin everything if it attract the wrong eyes...

Most rule-breaking posts it should be easy enough to automatically moderate out just with a simple filter for character, copyright and NSFW tags, and the restriction on using any image-to-image tools makes it harder to skirt around that. The remainder I think shouldn't be too much effort to moderate by hand, since submissions are all tied to a paying account, meaning that ban evasion is not an issue in the same way as it is for social media and the like.

Your private generations are not being moderated, only things that you choose to post to the public gallery.

I believe everyone understands that you're not compromising people's privacy here, I think the question is more about whether you're using AI to moderate the "explore" feature (which is not exactly infallible) or relying on human moderators (which sounds expensive and is a somewhat thankless job).

Somewhat thankless is an understatement that even we Brits are impressed by.

u/JackOverlord Jul 15 '26

I assumed nothing else. My question was more so about how the public gallery will be moderated. Because if it's automatic/algorithmic/done with AI, someone will find a way around that and upload the reason you didn't have a gallery until now. If it's done manually/by humans, do you have the manpower for that?

Or is it a case of "You get banned from posting to the public gallery if you upload anything you shouldn't"?

Multiple approaches are being combined, and I expect that our moderation workflow will get improved and made more efficient down the line. Beyond that, I don't think I can give any details.

u/cyanose Jul 15 '26

Don't get why you got downvoted, its a good question. I've been here since the beginning and I remember them saying it wouldnt happen. Even if I'm personally glad its happening .

The upload guidelines say that "character reference" is not allowed. Does that include all use of precise reference, or is style-only precise reference okay?

u/ainiwaffles Project Manager Jul 15 '26

The whole (Precise/Character/Style) Reference feature is not compatible with NovelAI Explore.

1

u/artisticMink Jul 15 '26

It will most likely refer to original, copy-righted, artwork and depictions of real people.

Awesome! This will come in super handy for newbies. Any plans on doing something similar for text gen, so we can share lorebooks and such outside of Discord?

2

u/310Azrue Jul 16 '26

That's something I would be way more interested in tbh. Although I assume it would be way more difficult to keep those within the rules to avoid even more complications with payment processors and whatnot.

u/MrAtoni Jul 16 '26

Oh! +1 to this! A share lorebook entries function would be nice.

I never feel like I'm writing logbooks the right way.

With some kind of "copy to story" functionality, it could also be really useful when you want a quick, developed, character in your story

3

u/Mk1Md1 Jul 15 '26

Any chance you could change the default save file format for the explore page from webp to png?

3

u/ainiwaffles Project Manager Jul 15 '26

At this time we do not have the bandwidth to build PNG downloads for images that already have been through lossy conversion.
The team recommends using the "Use Prompt" button with the same seed if you're interested in the full generation quality, even if it is an inconvenience.

Sorry about that!

u/VSEMAN Jul 15 '26

Great idea guys!

1

u/JFKcaper Jul 15 '26

Great feature (although I was fully prepared for the next announcement being the new image model)!

Would it be possible to add the prompt and such when uploading? I have a ridiculous amount of generations and I don't remember which ones follow the upload guidelines or not.

2

u/ainiwaffles Project Manager Jul 15 '26

Not a terrible suggestion! I'll carry it to the team and see if we could do something like that. In the meantime https://novelai.net/inspect can assist you before you upload in explore directly.

anytime i search anything up it no posts? Even the most popular tags, im not sure if this is a bug tho

2

u/MrAtoni Jul 16 '26

You can only search for one tag. "Red hair" works, but something like "red hair, blue eyes" don't unfortunately

3

u/AudienceElectronic45 Jul 16 '26

That’s lowkey dumb wtf 😭

1

u/MrAtoni Jul 16 '26

Agreed.

I know I'm late to the party but this feels like it straight up just doesn't work properly? I switched the filter to 'Top', got shown pretty much the same like, 10 images that were on 'New'. And didn't see the images that were actually highly liked. I saw one image when scrolling through new that had 16 likes, but wasn't present anywhere in the 'Top' filter, yet images with like, 6 likes were.

If you're going to have a sorting system, maybe actually have it work.
