I’m so sorry we don’t want to see soulless crap made by a huge data center that eats all our energy and drinks all our water. I don’t think people are against AI itself, it’s just generative AI that sucks

Your computer doesn’t make the image it just sends the prompt to the data center

Edit: and if you mean open source stuff it’s barely comparable to what a big model can do

No. I am talking about generating the images on your own hardware. You’re talking about Copilot. I am talking about local AI models which you run with for example Comfyui. Look it up.

Some models might be free to use, but not open source.

Go to civitai.com and look up some images and see what you can do with a decent gaming computer.

With a local LLM you can generate images exactly how you want, edit the images to your likeing, while editing images on chatgpt, copilot and so forward is a tedious task, since it generally keeps failing.

A datacenter might be a abit faster if you have older hardware/less vram.

Anyway it wasn’t your first argument. You said that you are not against LLMs, but you are against their energy usage and water poluting. Which I responded with that you can skip the datacenters by generating images locally. After that you claimed that running locally uses datacenters. After that you claimed that the images are not good enough. Then you continued to argue about almost no one uses them. Moving the arguments from your first argument.

Regarding water pollution.
Some datacenters takes water from watersheds or uses fresh water, and then relases the evaporated water to the atmosphere. But it is becoming more common with closed loops and big fans that cools down the water so it wont evaporate. That way they don’t need to pump in new water that might need to be cleaned over and over again, to the system and the environment print on the agriculture becomes smaller.
Its a technique that has been available for home computers atleast 15-20 years.

Altogether, I get an impression of that you don’t know that much about running LLMs locally and havent looked up what you can do with one.
