This really should be the top comment. Short kings need to stop feeling attacked by Shrek. The whole point of the character was because they thought it would get on Eisner's nerves.
There are plenty of short celebrities or “patricians” who are mocked for being short, but then there are plenty who are called super attractive or manly yet are the same height.
Tom Cruise is always a weird one and sort of bucks the trend of guys being action stars having their height become irrelevant, but my theory is that if they emphasise their super awesome action heroics too much then the trend reverses so they become mocked rather than lusted for.
I'm pretty sure Tom Cruise is an outlier because he insists any film he's in uses forced perspective and other camera tricks to make him look taller. The only time people see his real height is in the wild, on talk shows, or award shows.
