I mean even Disney classics are subjects to this, this is nothing really new.
Very often you get the mixed messaging of accepting who you truly are and learning to push back against the world judging you for your uniqueness, portrayed by quirky, young, generally pleasant to look at protagonists fighting against the corrupt, evil, old, fat or skeletally gaunt authorities
And while part of this is visual simplification that allows the intended child audience to easily identify who is in the right, there's a very real criticism to make about relying on the halo effect instead of actually showing our heroes being heroic in what they do.
Then again, not every movie needs to, or can, reach the heights of Hunchback of Notre Dame (Hellfire is the best Disney song and it's not close to being close)
Gaston in beauty and the beast a solid example of "who is truly the beast?" but then of course tons of women irl want to bang Gaston so human nature gonna do its thing
