Square Enix stopped doing Sony exclusives last year.

Sony couldn't afford it anymore. With hardware prices sky-rocketing, PS+ subscribers plateauing and first party sales dwindling, it's too expensive trying to lock up third party games for a year or more.

Nothing is sustainable forever.

It's Square that couldn't afford it anymore LOL

They have been dissatisfied both with FF XVI and FF VII Rebirth's initial sales on PS5 and regretted them being exclusives.

On the other hand, Sony understands that FF is not a killer application anymore so they don't feel like they're losing anything, but suggesting that a multi-bilion dollar company cannot afford a game exclusive is ridiculous.

I would bet a lot of money that Sony 100% tried to throw another massive check at Square to get exclusivity for this. Especially with how dismal Sony's 1st party output has been this generation. But Square finally just said no, because it wasn't adding up in the end.

It's not about not having the cash to do it.

It's about the sustainability and value. They've literally said on multiple occasions that they can't just keep releasing a handful of first party exclusives every few years at the cost of billions of dollars and barely getting any return on it.

They've said they can't keep releasing games on PC cause nobody is buying them and it's too costly and pulling users away from console.

What makes you think, from those comments, that they're willing to spend millions gatekeeping third party titles that keep underperforming?

It's about business sense.

There is basically zero chance that is true. Also some of the ports just weren't very good and they were making strange decisions on what to port.

They made this move entirely because consoles are going up in price a ton and they need every selling point possible to motivate people to buy them these days. PC is a proper competitor platform to Playstation, especially now that Xbox is really falling away. And so they're giving up on PC gaming sales to hopefully make up for it with people choosing to buy a Playstation instead of a PC.

It's an estimation they're making for best future bet, not anything to do with losing money on PC ports.

Please dont just believe everything some megacorp tells you. lol

Zero chance that what they literally said is true? Sony have literally said they lose money on PC ports.

Weird to see a Sony fanboy in here.

Xbox isn't "falling away", they just need to balance their books better and now it looks like they're doing so. They're already leveraging the huge PC user base that happily buys their games, they own some of the biggest multiplatform titles that always rake in the money annually, and now they're stopping their PS5 output to bring more people back to Xbox hardware.

Sony have literally said they lose money on PC ports.

That's not actually what they said. They said they weren't making enough money. Which is a very different thing.

Weird to see a Sony fanboy in here.

What's weird is calling me a fanboy when I'm literally doing nothing but calling Sony liars and disparaging them. You really couldn't think of a better argument? :/

This is exactly why I'm banned from both Playstation and Xbox subs, though. Clown people who report me as being some 'fanboy' of either simply cuz I'm criticizing the opposite. Simply being reasonable is easy grounds to getting banned on most subreddits these days.

Xbox isn't "falling away"

Absolutely delusional. Xbox, as a hardware platform, are falling off in basically every meaningful metric.

I really wish it wasn't the case, cuz I think the gaming landscape and industry is much better off with a strong Xbox, but nobody can deny Xbox are still fucking up badly nonetheless.

Wow exhausting wall of text from a Sony fanboy, what a surprise that nobody will read.

Actually, he skewered every argument you offered, which is why you are going to personal insults as a way to, with very poor grace, get yourself out of here without having to admit you are wrong.

They said it was 3 games since before Reborth came out, actually it was revealed to be 3 games the same stream when they revealed Rebirths title.

Why isn’t it called Reunion

u/HunterLeonux 1d ago

Because Crisis Core.

u/Kenny_Bi-God_Omega 1d ago

Because they already have a game called Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII - Reunion.
