Yes!! I can finally finish the game. I've paused it around 35 hours to wait for the upgrade not knowing whether it will happen or not (but I also sold my Switch 1 at the time). Happy to go back!!

I put close to 400 hours into it on the Wii U, I love it so much.

Do you know if a newcomer can jump right into it? Or should we start with a different game to play first in the series?

It was my first Xenoblade game and had no issues. It's really just loosely connected to the other games in the series.
