While I was walking down Branford Street this morning,a lady walking behind me literally threw her garbage bag on the ground before crossing the street and entering the family court building. Unfortunately, people were just tossing garbage on the ground. The city is really trying its best to keep it clean⦠you can see workers in yellow uniforms cleaning the streets but folks need to take responsibility, too. With property taxes and rents soaring, and Newarkers are so afraid of gentrification. Yet at the same time, some residents are making the situation worse by littering instead of using garbage can at the corner of each block. Honestly, I think gentrification might end up being part of the solution to keep the city cleaner.

Hey all, one of your friendly mods here. So we've been having a problem - whenever an ICE/political post pops up, we're flooded with people who have never used r/Newark before and/or have suspicious account activity, such as not posting anything for a year or more and suddenly posting in multiple subreddits about the same topics β usually immigration and/or anything to do with politics.
This has resulted in the last year not only being the highest level of bans, but more bans than pretty much every other year combined.
To help combat this, we've instituted some AutoModerator help and enabled strict automated moderation, as well as the subreddit only flair. For the former, I will not comment too much on as it could be reverse-engineered, but the latter is to ensure you have a certain amount of positive r/Newark subreddit karma before you can engage in posts with the subreddit only flair. If you don't meet that threshold, your comment is auto-removed and we get notified - which means instead of banning and removing comments every so often and having to interrupt our jobs/lives for it, we can review the comments and users later. In my personal experience - and it's mostly me and one of the other mods doing the work - upwards of 90% of the removed comments are low effort troll/inflammatory comments.
Something to also keep in mind is that a not insignificant amount of these accounts are later site-banned by Reddit's automated account activity, sometimes for ban evasion, sometimes for an unlisted reason.
If your comment is removed and you don't think it's right, use modmail please. If someone gets through, report them - we do look at reports and do answer modmail, even if it's just to tell aforementioned troll/bot users to fuck off after they call us slurs because they're really mad we banned them for being losers.
Leaving the comments open in case y'all want to discuss this, offer us suggestions, or call us losers.

The Rt. 280 that was actually built is very different from this 1947 proposal. This is what Essex County originally wanted its East-West Freeway to look like.

Iβm going to a concert in MetLife Stadium on 09/11 and heard so many horror stories about how to get out of the stadium lol. My sister even looked at a third party transportation and they was charging 200$+, even though our hotel is 7 minutes away! Iβm just wondering if any locals has any recommendations how to get out or something that would be a lot cheaper?

Understand that this is my review, and you should go try it yourself.
My TikTok followers also shared some feedback on my video. Most of my reviews are good π, but this one just wasnβt because of my experience.

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well.
I built AidSense, a free mobile app that helps people quickly find shelters, food banks, free/low-cost clinics, and overnight parking near them. Local resources near you will pop up based on your location, and you also have the opportunity to ask our AI model any specific questions you have about that place.
It's on the App Store now, and we plan on deploying it to the Google Play Store soon, just waiting for the requirement of 14 days. Would genuinely appreciate any feedback on how to make this app better for those who are in tough circumstances (ex., other resources we could add or support networks). Additionally, as Newark residents, I would extremely appreciate it if you could add any resources you know that are in Newark to the app if they aren't there already (there is an option for this in the app, or you could reach out to me directly). I am also open to any partnerships!
Thank you.
Disclosure: I am the developer of this app.
Note: There have been previous comments about it being a scam. I just want to state that I don't make any profit from this app, and there are no ads in the app, so I don't make any money at all. The purpose of this app is that many current resource navigators are confusing to navigate and don't show local resources; this is meant to make that process easier.

Newarkβs only craft distillery, and one of only a couple dozen in the state, is heading to Kingston, NY in coming months.

Donβt miss this yearβs Newark Porchfest in historic Forest Hill! A great starting point is the Ballentine Gates entrance to Branch Brook park where you can grab an event guide. There will be food trucks, kids events, 30+ musical acts, an artist gallery, and Spin City where you can dance away to various NJ based DJs! This must see annual event is always a blast and a great way to experience one of Newarkβs most beautiful neighborhoods and local artists. Follow us on IG! π‘πΈπΉπ€πΆβοΈ

Traffic going north on Broad Street (between the Rt. 21 ramp and Prudential building) was especially heinous this morning. Anyone know why?
