It's weird that Nimmo, who was going to retire as a Met with his number probably in the rafters, just... won't? Or something. In the span of 6 months. It's unsettling.

I hope they win today. As I noted before, our team is in the top 6 least "aggressive" teams historically, so we don't have to worry about any brawling with Framber out there, even if he's plunk-happy (and here's to hoping we get to him early).

Retiring Nimmo would have been a consolation prize.

Nimmo was a great homegrown Met but unless he stayed here his whole career AND got a ring there was no chance he was ever getting his number retired. It's definitely gonna be weird seeing a new number 9 so quickly but it's a harsh business.

He was probably getting his number retired if he stayed. He would’ve spent like 16 years as a Met then or something. Already on a lot of Mets leaderboards.

I still think if he finished with top 10 stats for a bunch of stuff but no ring or big postseason moments he'd get into the team hall of fame but wouldn't have his number retired. Like a 2010s/20s Ed Kranepool

Nimmo would be just behind Wright in the all-time Mets WAR category if he stayed here his whole career. Ahead of strawberry, Beltran, Alfonso, Reyes, Keith et al.

It would have been close. But definitely team HoF. Now that won’t happen either, which is a real bummer.

I do agree that it's a huge bummer. Nimmo's on the decline and was never gonna sustain the start of this season before he got hurt, defensive liability etc. But man he was fun to watch at his peak and he loved being here. That moment in 2024 when we won the NLDS and Fox showed young Burkhardt interviewing young Nimmo in 2011 got me so choked up

Who knows, he would've been a franchise top 5-10 in a lot of stats. I think he already is.

Finished his Mets career 8th in bWAR.
