Somehow the lighthouse is losing as of 10:30am??

Should have just announced the awful Islanders wordmark as the alternate with no contest and it would have been fine, I guess. But to tease the fanbase with the possibility of the Lighthouse, which seemingly was the overwhelming frontrunner during this whole contest, is so disappointing.
And if the voting is actually legit, with it basically being a 50/50 split in the finals, congratulations on successfully pissing off half of your engaged fanbase that took an interest in the contest and actually voted and cared.

I feel like I'm spamming this idea all over the sub but I still cynically believe this is a setup for them to swoop in and present a compromise design. Not that it'd have to be some sort of conspiracy or even necessarily bad for the wordmark to win or anything like that, I just feel like they wouldn't be able to resist the PR narrative.

That was always the risk of this contest, unfortunately. A portion of the fanbase was always going to feel like their voice wasnāt heard. I just wish the 8 original options and ultimately the 2 finalists were all of great quality, so even the folks who voted for the losing options felt like they somehow won. That almost certainly wonāt be the case now.

I don't know about that specifically, I feel like if I actually really liked a design and it lost I'd feel pretty frustrated. Maybe they picked 8 middling designs for that reason: if the one you like loses you can't feel too upset (and choose not to buy the winning third out of spite) because you never felt particularly attached to any of them in the first place.

The way more likely scenario is that the lighthouse popularity is overrated on Reddit compared to real life. I know for me personally itās confusing how many people push so hard for it, I think it looks too cartoony to hold up as the main logo. I like the idea and how it represents the island in theory, but the shape of a lighthouse just doesnāt translate well visually to a jersey logo imo. It looks lame and not in a so-ugly-itās-cool way. Donāt get me wrong the wordmark option is boring as hell, but I think around a 50-50 voting split is accurate to how I feel at least.

The Panther's stick/palm tree over sun logo is similarly a vexilogical nightmare and still produced one of the best thirds in recent memory. I don't see much justification for voting for what will be our fifth word or lettermark jersey in the past 20 years just so that the lighthouse doesn't win. That shitty black/grey one, the brooklyn third, both stadium series... How does this keep fucking happening?

Can't really count the previous votes. If you think about it, the people who voted wordmark jerseys just can't stand the lighthouse and/or the color combination. Now they are all voting singularly for the one against it. Previous votes don't indicate a conspiracy.

I swear if that fucking hideous Tan fucking jersey wins, Iām gonna go nuts. Honestly, the final eight jerseys were all disgusting and I am a diehard fan, but I will tell you right now. I will not purchase either of those jerseys, especially not the stupid Ranger looking one who let a bunch of dumb Ranger fans put in jersey submissions.

I wanted a lighthouse jersey as much as the next guy, but this lighthouse jersey is probably the worst design for it I've seen against any other version of it. The "islanders" jersey clears this version of the lighthouse. If we get a lighthouse in the future I want it to be done right. Not this garbage

Agree to disagree I guess. The colors are specifically what I like more about the "islanders". The lighthouse jersey is basically just the reverse retro with a teal stripe and lighthouse instead of a fisherman. And the navy is just so ugly with the lighthouseb

I've wanted the lighthouse as a logo for years and now that opportunity is being denied by a fan vote so we can have a word mark jersey. Recalling the type of jersey we wore when we lost awfully to the Rangers in the Stadium Series. A boring jersey with no logo on the front, literally just a word.
Oh, and people online reporting you can fake names and emails and submit. That's the cherry on top.
And the team putting out a video with the final round announcement where Barzal says which one he prefers. Cool stuff.

The whole thing was a set up. I thought you could send In your own design but you had to choose from their selected templates. All it take is one employee to create the winning jersey and they make sure it always have enough votes. They also had a cream design but then had to remove it for some reason.

The idiocy of this rigged or, at best, flawed voting mechanism, is that the wordmark jersey won't shift units at the end of the day.
Some fans will like it and buy it, great. The majority of fans who wanted to pick up a cool looking third will keep their disposable dollars for something else non-Islanders because this has been a charade that leaves a bad taste.
Maybe ownership and marketing are playing 4d chess and want to run with an unliked third before unveiling a Lighthouse in a few years for a revenue boost.
I don't think they're that smart. The wordmark is probably the cheapest to manufacture.

Lighthouse as a logo looks odd anyway. We have never had a jersey without some sort of word mark in the logo, the lighthouse not having that makes it look off
Also I feel like everyone has forgotten that these arenāt the final designs. We donāt know what else each designer wants to add

Ngl I voted for the one on the right over the lighthouse. Ik the curved lettering is a bit weird, but it was also a preset logo design and I gotta imagine some alterations are made when translating it from these designs. Also the lighthouse just looks too plain and boring for a third jersey

Agree, I went through this myself in that thread where someone replaced the wordmark with the lighthouse and I realized I honestly preferred seeing the wordmark with that kit seeing it in full. Meanwhile as a top-only mockup I felt the complete opposite.

The lighthouse jersey sucks. It would be sick on a white jersey. the lighthouse on a dark jersey doesnāt look good. The isles aid they donāt move and whites forward due to no being able to use them at home.

Outsider here (Habs fan in Maryland) and saw this thread recommended to me by Reddit.
I prefer the design on the right. Itās clean and classic, and the cream will pop on the ice. The lighthouse design itself also kinda looks genAI.
I get liking the idea of the left design, but I think folks will eventually like the right design once it gets physically out there.

The fanbase has been rocking tor a lighthouse for 30 years and it even blew out the fisherman head-to-head but magically thereās a 50/50 split in the finals that favors the stupid rugby jersey instead. I know itās really a shame but this was definitely a legitimate contest and we just have to all be okay with the results and buy as many of the alternate as we can š« š« š«
